Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

I am awaiting the annual Thanksgiving Russian Roulette at my bro's inlaws:

1. Who doesn't like a good ol' family fight?
2. Hey, there's Brenthoven. (hushed whisper) all he does is party and drink 24/7 and hangs out with people he met on the "internet"
3. Hi, Brenthoven. /ignore

Whee fun.

Well, if they don't approve, let them think what they want to. At least they ignore instead of trying to "intervene".

Morning lodge. Saw another house last night. It was great until I learned it was essentially a flipped foreclosure. Pass.

Yeah... you know those people on the "internet"... shady lot I tell ya. Especially that 63 year old lady that was at the DT last Thursday. Nothin' but trouble, that one.

Good morning Lodge! Took the day off, so a nice 5-day weekend for me. Not sure what to do today. Maybe get a mani/pedi. I will have to check email a few times, but I can do that while hanging out and watching TV.

So, every Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the local Clear Channel behemoth pop radio station hosts this Turkey Toss. Started as a lark, but has grown into this yearly event. They get about 10-12 high schools to participate, take two players from a high school football team and they have to toss a frozen turkey. The school that tosses it the furthest wins. And this morning, my high school won!! Yay! I was excited to hear that!! I should have gone - they did it right down the street from where I live.

I'm not going with a "roasting bag"... I don't think I'm that awful. I bought a aluminum pan from the grocery store (I would have sworn we took something more formal from grandma when she moved into the nursing home) and I found my poultry rack... just gotta put on the tin foil just right.

the roasting bag does not make you less of cook or a man. It's simply a great tool that locks in great flavor and makes the turkey uber juicy.

No, they're cool with that. They are into landscaping/snowplowing/some construction/etc. But they don't understand sports at all (they think they do), and therefore don't get the sports fans.

but you hang out with guys that trip and break their noses. That's all your family knows. :)

S'upp y'all....

I prefer les nesman's turkey toss :D

Never tried the bag but remote meat therometer with an alarm set to 160 works pretty well also

Yup - my mom is doing this. How many minutes per pound are you supposed to cook the dang bird? Mom said our 26lb turkey should be done in 7 hours?! (It's 20-25 mins per pound for Chix, I figured 25-30 for turkey, which puts us at 13 hours...).

Les - Called dad this morning because finger looks a bit gross and my bruise from falling down the stairs looks bad. (I'm a mess these days... :o ). He just got a bunch of tetanus shots in yesterday, so he's going to bring some home tonight and I'll get one tomorrow morning before we start cooking. Recommended heated compresses for the leg as my bruise is about the size of a softball (into the muscle) and looks like "Russia. Shaped like russia and red, blue, and purple" (according to tcbg).

Good God 'ewe! See what happens when you move north of the border?? ;) Seriously though, take care of that injury. Well, both of them actually. Sorry I missed seeing you guys over the weekend. Was trying to find you both on Saturday. Where were you sitting?

Thats way too long, check Alton Brown. I'd say 4 hrs or so. I'm doing 2, 15 lb turkeys. One on the grill, maybe 2.5 hrs and one in the oven, about the same
