Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

Gotta be tough.....on those seven days a month a pilot works. :p

if I was based in Denver and didn't get called to work, I'd agree with you. But since most of my days off are spent commuting to and from Greensboro to sit reserve and not work, I basically hate my life and have wanted to throw myself off a bridge for the last 3 months. But hey, great life I have, right?

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

since when do planes have fridges? or food for that matter? Christ, I'm lucky to get a cup of ice

The ones that I make seats for do. Although Im pretty sure you aren't Kenny Chesney's personal pilot so you dont get to fly those planes

Evening, Lodge. Pie is in the oven, soup is in the process, Hershey kisses are shelled, but dough isn't made yet. Nearly removed my left pointer finger nail (cut all the way through and into some skin) while dicing 6 cups of onions. I don't want to see another onion for a long time. :o :( And I still have 4 loads of laundry to fold. :(

Re: Rep Lodge 125: The Thanksgiving Dinner Version: Gimme Some More...

My contribution for this year's Thanksgiving Day dinner is.....wait for it......beer. My brothers took care of everything else already, and I was told that if I wanted anything other than tap water that I'd have to bring it. Well, the hosting brother has a well, and therefore the water there is horrible. So I'm solving that dliema right here and now.

sounds like the problem is solved then... I am providing myself with all elements of the meal on Thursday, it should end in disaster... turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn, and a pie. Fail here I come!

You can do it. What is going to fail? If you are worried about the turkey use one of those Turkey roasting bags. It will keep the roast moist. the rest is easy.

Yeow! Hope you're well otherwise, though. And doesn't someone make large unwrapped chocolate chips that would work otherwise?

I think my contribution is cider, assuming it tastes fine - guess I'll just have to sample some of them tomorrow night. ;)

that roasting bag has changed the way I cook turkey forever and ever. It is a brilliant invention, right up there with air conditioning

If you're having doubts, make a plan, chart it out. Just follow the directions.

So you're the hero of the story! :)

Not sure, but my knives are super-sharp and clean. I attempted disinfecting and am heading home tomorrow anyway. Will consult with Dr. Dad and see what I should do. He usually has vaccines in the office if I do end up needing a booster (he also has all my medical records dating back to birth).

Nah - cooking is easy. Make a prep list for each item you plan to make (ingredients, steps, timing) and then make a plan of attack.

I'm okay, just tired. Settling in to fold laundry and then pack for vacation.

EXACTLY!
I also second the bird in a bag. Made one last week for the family I work for and I am totally sold. It even tells you which way to put the bird in the pan (which is good for me :o ).

i think i've got it... always that "hmm... I'm going to forget something" bit.

I'm not going with a "roasting bag"... I don't think I'm that awful. I bought a aluminum pan from the grocery store (I would have sworn we took something more formal from grandma when she moved into the nursing home) and I found my poultry rack... just gotta put on the tin foil just right.

edit: my mother was calling me brave... you ever get that feeling your parents have low standards or come to have low expectations from you... I suppose I did set some of those in regards to the kitchen.

Yup. :) I'm even making it a sampler pack. I have some Summit Winter Ale, Schell's Lakemaid and Firebrick, and lastly Honeyweiss. I figure that's something for everyone.

I am awaiting the annual Thanksgiving Russian Roulette at my bro's inlaws:

1. Who doesn't like a good ol' family fight?
2. Hey, there's Brenthoven. (hushed whisper) all he does is party and drink 24/7 and hangs out with people he met on the "internet"
3. Hi, Brenthoven. /ignore

Whee fun.

You forgot the part where they look down on you for driving a forklift.

No, they're cool with that. They are into landscaping/snowplowing/some construction/etc. But they don't understand sports at all (they think they do), and therefore don't get the sports fans.
