Holland, MI. About as Dutch Christian Reformed as they come. A whole bunch of these people have been getting up in front of council and arguing against adding LGBT+ to the non-discrimination ordinance for employment and housing. I plan on getting up there Wednesday at the final vote and saying "I want to know that love your neighbor as yourself includes loving your LGBT+ neighbor."

Learned something today. In the original Hebrew, the plague of frogs was actually written as a singular frog. According to some, this means Pharaoh's Egypt was terrorized by one giant frog.

I want to see a version of that story with the giant frog.

Now we know what's in those pyramids.

Or maybe it was just a particularly tenacious regular-sized frog?

Hey, we don't usually get these guys in here.

For as much as I miss being in a church, I've sensed the Divine Presence more at my Sunday Brunch dates with my best friends than in the actual building.

Myers-Briggs, Hogwarts Houses, and the Enneagram are all just astrology for adults.

There is some theory behind Myers-Briggs but it's been buried under a metric ton of MBA dumbing down and stupidity. Myers and Briggs themselves were pseudo-scientists with an eye for the main chance who sold reworked Jungianism to a lot of slack-jawed businessmen and school administrators. For a very nice profit.

I dunno. I think there's some value in some of the MB stuff. (Easy flippant reply: "Apparently they snagged engineers as well!") As long as you don't treat it as gospel or a static definition, it's a useful tool. It did help to illuminate some of my weaknesses when we took the Insight test. One of my favorite sections was:

dxmnkd316 needs:
  • More time in the day
  • Help to tolerate colleagues less gifted than himself
  • To be fully informed
  • Someone to issue flak jackets to all members of his team
  • Time to adjust to other points of view
  • The authority to re-examine and re-test his conclusions
  • To be encouraged to explore new ideas
  • To be given opportunities for personal development
  • An able, fast-paced backup team
There are certainly some areas there, namely the flak jacket comment, that made me realize I need to be less of an a-hole. I think it also helps to know what type of personality someone is when you engage them. Are they someone who wants three bullet points and then for you to disappear, or do you need to satisfy their need to discuss the day and blah blah blah before you can get to brass tacks.

There was a lot of other interesting info in the results booklet. I thought it was worth 30 minutes of my time and $150 in expensed budget. Either way, as long as you treat it as a tool instead of a definition, you might find value.

Edit: I suppose you could say that if you spin the MB Wheel of Personality and just do a printout of those strengths and weaknesses, everyone could find some sort of self-fulfilling answer to their problems. *shrug* everything is what you make of it.

Jesus got arrested again.

25 years ago I read a book about High Russian Weirdness that had a chapter about this guy, along with secret cities under the subway tracks and oligarchs who built skyscrapers entirely out of wood. I had no idea his group had managed to stay alive in the Taiga all this time.

The time to enjoy LP is now, because they will turn their cannons toward Ds very soon, and they will not have forgotten how to use them. Our glee will turn to grudging admiration.

At this point, I don't miss going to church. I'm having more fun with my friends on Sunday mornings at Lucy's Cafe, bonding over biscuits and gravy and coffee.
