Today, I saw the best and the worst of people:

About 4:45 PM ET today, there was a group gathering at City Hall in Holland in support of adding LGBT to the non-discrimination ordinance for employment and housing. After about 45 minutes, things wound down a bit and I was sitting on the steps when my friend Ryan shows up to sit on the steps with me. About 5:45, this fundie shows up passing out flyers asking if I want to know what the Bible says about homosexuality. I respond I'm trans, so I will politely decline. Fundie Flyer Lady hears this and thinks this is an invitation to debate my existence. Ryan (agnostic) starts making fun of her, and she's getting visibly agitated. Meanwhile, my Mom friend Emily (affirming Christian) says "as a saved Christian, I will give you a Mama hug," referring to me. Flyer Lady, realizing she was outgunned, walked away in defeat.

Afterward, Emily, Ryan, a lovely black woman, and a couple bystanders ask if I'm okay. I respond I am, largely thanks to them. There are good people in Holland.

I found out the Diocese (West Michigan) of my church does not have a Bishop right now; he's been suspended for a year or so due to extramarital affairs.

Christians to Yoho: drop dead.

A nonpartisan Christian organization that seeks to end hunger said Saturday it asked for and received the resignation of Rep. Ted Yoho from its board of directors following what it called his “verbal attack” on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., accused Yoho, R-Fla., of using a vulgar and sexist insult while upbraiding her during a confrontation last Monday on the steps of the Capitol. Yoho maintained he did not use the words cited, though a reporter who witnessed the incident confirmed the language as she described it.

In a statement, Bread for the World said its board met Friday with Yoho and sought his resignation “as an action that reaffirms our commitment to coming alongside women and people of color, nationally and globally, as they continue to lead us to a more racially inclusive and equitable world.”

I miss my church. Yes, every two weeks, we're doing a Distanced Communion, but not the same. I miss walking in singing Kesha and getting hugs from practically everyone.

Jerry Falwell Jr is... I don't even know. It's all over Twitter. They aren't even trying to hide it any more.

Pants unzipped, glass of wine in hand, arm wrapped around a cute ginger who isn't his wife. Looks like he had a fun weekend espousing true conservative values.

Televangelists have always been con men. Their religion is a gimmick to attract the marks. The Falwells, the Schullers, Robertson, Swaggart, Bakker, they're swindlers.

Self-selected, target rich environment. Like selling elixers to people who visit the right wing conspiracy sites.

Hence the rush of the UFO conspiracy merchants to the gold fields of the Q saps. Where we dupe one we dupe all.

One of joecct's favorite rags, ChurchMilitant.com, has their offices not far from where I now live. Which is hilarious because this is one of the most liberal Detroit suburbs.

Speaking of the Whore of Babylon, some surprisingly unnatural behavior from a Catholic composer, who sexually abused... women!

Actually, Joe will be thrilled with that if it means they stop playing his contemporary schlock and go back to the pre-Vatican II hymnal.

In all fairness I fully support the Tridentine Mass. It's all nonsense anyway, so for god's sake go with one of the most beautiful rituals in human history. If the rubes in the pews don't understand it so much the better.

Turn the priest around again, too. You're praying to God, not some fat dipsh-t edging towards the aisle to split at Communion to make his tee time.
