Quinnipiac Bobcats 2021-22 - Let's get this party started!

And he ended up having a direct impact on the outcome last night with what appeared to be a phantom slashing call in OT. He's always got to be in the spotlight and it's frustrating that he is so inept. But it is what it is and everyone knows he's unpredictable. Teams have to factor that into their play when he's on the ice.

We lost last night because of special teams play. Another 0-fer on the PP and 2-3 on the PK. It was a close game and neither team was sharp except for the netminders. Lots of sloppy passing on both sides... it seemed the ice was not in the best of shape (possibly a tactic by Cornell to contain our speed?).

Shake it off and move on to Tuesday.

The ice was fine. I have no clue what you're talking about; some one is reaching for excuses. The outside temperature was 20F with wind chill of 8F.
No excuses here, we lost, it happens. Just stating what I saw. And it seemed to affect Cornell more than us. The puck was bouncing all night.

Outdoor temps, especially colder ones, don't affect the ice nearly as much as warmer temps (actually more so humidity). But the ice surface can be "controlled" by the cooling system and its another "tool" in every teams arsenal. Talk to a rink manager sometime...

Maybe it wasn’t a slash in OT, but it certainly was interference, so regardless it was a penalty. As far as the ice goes I saw nothing unusual. More likely there just wasn’t a lot of space out there so both teams were making rushed passes and bobbling the puck more than usual.

Q is a terrific team, with all the ingredients to get to a final four (Cornell is probably a year away from being in that class). But it does seem their power play is an Achilles heal, and unless they get that figured out it will probably cost them against the truly elite teams like Michigan, Minnesota State and St. Cloud. It looks like Q does everything right on the PP, but perhaps they’re missing that truly elite sniper.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the PK issues, as Berard, who has a pro shot, just got off two lasers. It wasn’t as if Cornell’s PP had Q running in circles.

With just one angle of the incident it was hard to see what actually happened. It certainly wasn't a slash from what I saw. As for interference, it wasn't clear from the camera angle but appeared that any contact was after the shot, not a limiting factor.

That’s possible but it just appeared we didn't play with our usual "speed".

Thanks!

Yes, our PP has been a major concern all season and will likely haunt us in the post-season.

2 PPG's against the best, by far, PK in the country is troubling to me. Moreso is the fact that they were 2 identical shots that exposed a potential weakness in Perets.

To succeed in the Post season, you need all parts of your game functioning well.

Overall it was a great game that could have easily gone our way. Complaining and worrying about a 2nd loss at this stage of the season is a problem every team would like to have I'm sure.

There was a second angle of the penalty shown from the corner camera, and Betts was clearly taken down before he could get to the rebound.

As for the PK issue, if your concern is that Berard exposed a weakness in Perets’ glove hand, hard to say. They could have been just two great shots, and I think he was at least partially screened on both. I wouldn’t put too much stock in any PK troubles at this point.

I think if they weren’t the #1 team in the country we’d be less “surprised” by a road loss a Cornell. I’m not sure I’m too worried about the PK. Especially the 4x3. I’ve always thought that was a gimmick. Cornell handled NoDak at Ralph Walker. Cornell’s goalie made some nice saves as well as we missed a couple open chances. Second loss of season and it’s late January, I think I like where they are.

Two items of note from last night's beatdown in Princeton. 1) the D started slower than it usually does. Credit partially to Princeton. 2) St Cyr was up to the task. The D picked up in the 2nd period, and held Princeton to only 12 SOGs in the last two periods, the same amount they had in the first. St Cyr seemed to "stay home" better than usual, and didn't try to make the Big Play. He was calm when the puck was around him and made some big saves. I think they are excited for Bridgeport, and will do a good job solidifying themselves at CT's Team this weekend. Wouldn't be surprised to see St Cyr and Perets split the games, especially with the quick turn around from Saturday to Sunday. Maybe if they have a big lead we see Altman get some ice time. Hopefully the snow moves east and we get a good crowd. I plan on being there.

Well Quinnipiac seems to bring the best out of Sacred Heart. They had a great game plan and got into shooting lanes all night and frustrated the Cats. We were sloppy coming out of the zone and turned the puck over a lot. They will get every opponents A game because of their ranking. It’s difficulty to bring that emotion to every game when you play an opponent you should beat based on talent alone…there were many Sacred Heart students there (for a blizzard) and the Pioneers seemed to feed off that energy. They will have great attendance when they get that barn on campus.

Absolutely on all points. They also missed the net on a ton of shots. Robbins played very well, but QU also wasn’t sharp on opportunities. But they got them when they needed them.

Tomorrow should be fun. QU needs a better effort, but I don’t think UConn was great. Yale was absolutely HORRIBLE today. Just Awful!

Nice win by the boys tonight. While they weren't at their best all weekend, they held strong and worked for both victories. Perets was tested more tonight than in any other ghame this season and he stood tall, well deserving of the tourney MVP. Our offensive woes still need to be addressed, especially the PP. While our defgense and goaltending are our strengths, you can't win many games with no offense. I hope it was just tired legs from the heavy schedule over the last 2 weeks.

At the end of the day, they're CT Ice champs for 2022! Well done!

They missed the net A LOT this weekend. It just seemed more than normal. Not sure if it’s better to try to hit a spot and miss or hit one off the goalies chest and hope for a rebound. Both SHU and UConn seemed to clog up the middle a lot. UConn has some big bodies.

Desi’s goal did light a fire. It seemed like they really started buzzing after that and UConn didn’t know how to respond. That seems to be a trend. When a goal comes the team energizes and wears out the other team. When it comes early it usually gets ugly for the opponent quick. Zack missed a similar goal to the one that beat SHU a little earlier in the third.

Credit to the officials, I’m not sure it showed on tv. After a high stick (playing the puck) TJ started to go nuts. I’m not sure why but the ref put his arm around him and pushed him over to the bench and said something to Rand. Rand literally patted him on the head and told him to relax. I think it was with UConn’s net empty and a 6x4 power play could have ended poorly.

Yani was great, and St Cyr also made some big saves on Saturday.

That arena is a nice place to watch a game, but the glass at ice level is horrible. I think it’s plastic, and the distortion looking down ice was bad. The delay before the game was to replace a panel behind the net that cracked during warmups. Probably lighter due to all the assemblies and disassemblies that need to take place in a multi function arena.

Not Hockey related, but something bad happened in the stairwell of the arena parking lot. Police had it blocked off after the game and we needed to walk up the ramp to the car.

Great win! 1 trophy down, 4 to go!

Nowhere else for me... just not much traffic here anymore.

Here, I’ll help the content.

Last night was a bit weird, Even down, I was never concerned they wouldn’t win. Maybe it’s a little too much complicity on my part, but the resilience of this team and the Coach B factor just gives me a feel that 1 goal is not a big deal.

It’s ironic that in a game which was clearly won by Perets, he literally cost himself the shut out. I can’t imagine Rand was upset with him for the mistake. He’s wanted him to be more of puck handler and with that will come a learning curve. Funny a Goalie can give up only one goal and his GAA goes UP. All the way to 0.8.

This team does find a way to get things done when it counts. It is a long season & every game is not going to be a picture of perfection. I will admit I lose sight of that at times.

I thought Union had a good game plan last night. Forecheck hard, be physical, close the neutral zone passing lanes, and turn the game into more of a grind. It looks like opponents are really trying to not let the Bobcats skate through the neutral zone - which makes sense.

[Opinion] Maybe it was me, but I thought the arena wasn't as electric as I expected considering this was the first time since like Thanksgiving the students were in session during a game. I was really excited for the game with the students back, but felt a little let down. I could be wrong as I had pair of Bobcat Den libations before the game.

The student section just doesn't seem to be as electric, a problem that seems to worsen a bit each year. It's more of a social event for many of them. When they do become engaged the place is rocking.
