Quinnipiac Bobcats 2021-22 - Let's get this party started!

Nice to get a weekend sweep but we really need to find a way to put pucks in the net, both 5x5 and on the power play. It's baffling to me that they easily put up 5 against NoDak but can only manage 1 against Brown?

The defense was solid again and the 5 on 3 kill in the 2nd was huge. Perets, while never really tested, was great this weekend. Metsa and Lee were very good all weekend.

Maybe changing up the lines might help the offense. Not sure what's wrong but something needs to change.

They have scored 7 goals in 4 games against shitty teams. It’s a major concern now. This can’t keep up winning games 1-0 or 2-1.

They’re not getting in front of the net to get garbage goals. We need some dirty goals. Every goalie looks like Patrick Roy when you hit him in the chest and pads all night.

Hated the first period. Loved the rest of the game. I must admit I lost all hope after AZ scored their third goal at the beginning of the second. Their response to being down three goals was excellent. I think The last two periods was the best they have looked all year. Tonight they reminded me of the 2016 Bobcats a bit. Let’s hope this is the end of the goal scoring problem.

Definitely two different games. They came out strong for a few mins and then slipped into chaos mode for about 25 mins. ASU is big and fast. I think conditioning played a part in that game. ASU slowed in the third. Q was getting to pucks they were being beat to earlier and getting separation that wasn’t there before. Lee is a real spark plug. He forgets he’s half the size of those guys and digs in deep. Still too many shots in the chest or way wide, but hopefully getting better. Bongo’s goals were both great and Smilanic got a dirty PP goal that we haven’t seen much of this season. This team will succeed if that keeps up. We need a net presence for greasy second change goals. Hopefully they come out tonight like they finished off last night. I don’t think we’ll see a letdown like we saw with UND, although they played well, The 1st UND game was a dominant performance. Last night they clawed back like the Bobcat teams of A few years ago. Looking forward to tonight. Hopefully the students show up like last night, the barn was rockin!

Was nice to see them claw back especially after I wrote them off at 3-0. Definitely a gritty performance and a fantastic comeback. ASU did look gassed by the midpoint of the 2nd while we continued to get stronger.

Rand's line shuffle seemed to light the fuse. There were far fewer blind passes and passes to nowhere. The D was much more active as well. Lee has been on a mission for the past couple of weeks. Metsa is the calming influence but he's not afraid to drive deep when needed. I thought Mendel and McGee were solid last night. Perets rebounded from a rocky srtart over the first 25 minutes (not all his fault) and kept them in the game. Van Ness was strong and Chau may have played his best game. Bonjo and Smilanic were buzzing all game. I think both have been pressing too hard trying to force things. Maybe a couple of goals each settles them down.

ASU won't roll over tonight so we'll need another great effort.

Your team looked good after that first period. I'm a bit surprised they fell that far behind. I understand there was a line-up change which if correct appears to have helped. Should be an interesting game tonight.

Your team looked very good again. SOG was insane! Good luck the rest of the season!
Thanks!

The difference both nights was that ASU simply ran out of gas by mid-game and we somehow found another gear. Our conditioning program is second to none and is a huge part of our success.

Lots of big, fast talent on ASU. If you can find a way to bring it all together you have a ton of potential. Good luck the rest of the way!

Last night I commented that I was not impressed with Oliver Chau. He was the leading scorer on last years national champion yet was not producing this season. Tonight he tosses up a hatty! Well done Ollie!

Tonight should have been a shutout but Mr. St. Cyr keeps gifting opposing teams with his aggressive puck handling. He simply missed the 1st goal... not sure if he was screened but it wasn't even close. ASU's 2nd goal came off a soft handoff to the D that got chipped by ASU and found the back of the net. Luckily, we had enough offensive punch to recover from both.

Defense was stellar tonight limiting the Sun Devils to less than 20 shots. Lee continues to impress me eveytime he's on the ice. Metsa was solid and I thought Chorney, Mendel, McGee, and Rasanen were very strong.

Lombardi, Burgart, and Chau x 3 Provided more than enough offense to get the job done. Burgart dominated at the dot too, going 13-4. While Bonjo and Smilanic were quiet, they both played well and had several chances. I thought De Jong had another great game playing his gritty 200' game. Van Ness was strong again as well. Fillion and Tellier took advantage of their insertion into the lineup.

Great weekend sweep!

Mark, spot on! The conditioning of these guys combined with the talent can be deadly. One other upside was the PP. although far from perfect, I’ll take 3/10 pretty much any day. They still don’t have a great flow but what I really liked was the PP goals last night were gritty 2nd chance net front goals. Not just bombs from the circle. Everyone is playing hard every shift. Getting the puck out of the D zone for ASU was tough and they were forced to change more often than not.

The other thing last night was of the 50+ SOG, there were far fewer right into the goalie’s logo. Kraws made some good saves early and got a little/lot lucky. Even down early, I never felt the game was out of control and there was Zero panic that I saw. Friday’s game, as we look back at this team, may be the forward turning point of this season. UND win was big, but the letdown after was troubling. Clarkson comes in Friday, another good time for a statement win!

Big one tonight against Clarkson. Last year they went 2-2-2 against Clarkson with a shootout win and shootout loss. 4 of the 6 games went to overtime. The first 3 games were one goal games. The next two were ties that went to the shootout and the final game was a 4-2 win for Clarkson. These teams are pretty even and tonight should be a good battle.

Ugly game. Was good to see Van Ness get a goal like that. He was working hard all night. I really hate the 3x3 and the only thing I hate more is the shootout. Good to get the 2 points. Need a RW tonight to keep pace. I’m guessing we see St. Cyr tonight. That could be interesting.

Great weekend! Tonight was a good old thumping, and payback for last season's ECAC Championship game. De Jong with the hatty, Smilanic with 2 (one a beatiful penalty shot), Cippolone, Chau, and Bonjo rounding out the onslaught. D was solid even though 23 shots got through to Perets, who was as good as he's been all season.

Now they can enjoy the short Thanksgiving break and hopefully finish the year strong.

Rumors of this team's demise were greatly exaggerated.
Tonight notwithstanding, the offense still needs to find some consistency, especially on the power play. St Lawrence was not very good and their goalie(s) had a very rough night. Putting up 8 was as much a reflection of SLU's play as it was the Bobcats offense. For sure, a game like tonight is a confidence builder but as we saw against Clarkson last night, teams with good D structure give Q's offense fits.

With guys like Chau heating up and the solid play of others, like Van Ness and Cippolone, it does bode well as we head into the New Year.

Quinnipiac should crush a ton of teams in the ecac because a lot of the conference is just flat out terrible. The bottom six in ECAC is really bad and that includes Yale who is so god awful now.

Congratulations to Ty for making the Nation Jr team tryouts. If he makes the team, as he should, he’ll miss the Princeton H&H and possibly the LIU H&H depending on when he needs to report to camp. I think camp starts on the 12th and LIU is 10th&11th.

The team should be deep enough to make it without him but he’s a big cog in the machine.
