Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Game day against another tough Hockey East opponent. They need to find an offensive rhythm and a power play. Defensively they've looked good. Not great, but good. Solidify the wall in front of the net and keep everything to the outside. The goalies have been stellar in the first two games so it probably doesn't matter who gets the start this afternoon (my guess is we'll see Shortridge).

Time to get in the win column!

Go Q!

A good, solid effort but, boy, why can't we score! I counted 5 clanks of the iron in the 1st period. That, combined with Lekkas standing on his head, and the game was a whole lot closer than it needed to be. Nice to see Tufto get his first and then the game winner. The kid is gonna be good. I thought we carried play for most of the game. A couple of mistakes by us kept UVM in the game and made it interesting... moreso than I prefer. And we're still looking for a power play apparently. In the end we got the win and that's what counts.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

I am happy this team got the win. They really could not afford to be 0-1-2 or 0-2-1 against HE if they want to be playing after the ECAC tourney. 1-1-1 and a few late game slips from 2-0-1 - I will take it right now. Hopefully this builds confidence and momentum.

That said, that was a very poor 3rd period vs. Vermont. They came through in the end but they got outplayed for almost the entire period. Great hands by the Freshmen to pot his first 2.

I think QU needs to simplify a bit. I sometimes think they are trying too hard for the ESPN one touch passing highlight. Put the puck on net and hunt rebounds, IMO.

I have asked this last season and will ask it again - what does Duane bring to table? Doesn't score, not fast, does not set up other people, does not bang (except when playing BU apparently), taken off the puck easily - is he there for faceoffs? Nybondas is a big body, I would like to see what he can do. I have seen enough of #10.

Agree with the Duane assessment. Don't understand why he gets so much ice time.

Wins face offs, blocks shot, does not turn puck over. Plays solid fundamental hockey and forecheck turnovers. Fed Aldwort twice tonight he hit post. I thought playing much better this year. I enjoy watching this team and players will be in and out all season, should go deep. Puck turnovers will be a killer on this team.

Face-offs a re big reason he is in the lineup though he only won 4 of 10 last night but he is one of the few on the team that has success at taking them. They need to improve in this area as it is the 3rd straight game they have lost the face-off battle.

He is running about 50%, which is tops on the team - to your point, a concern.

Maybe I am frustrated with his consistency. He was really great against BU - then back to last years level vs. Vermont. Such a big dude and now that I have seen he can play physical, we need it every night.

I think KD actually worked on several areas over the summer. For one, he appears stronger. Last year he couldn't win a battle in the corner if he was alone, last week he stood up to Greenway (outplayed him I thought) and didn't get pushed around by UVM. He seems much more confident too. Last night he showed some hustle and on several shifts was buzzing all over hunting pucks though he didn't seem as "graceful" as he was last week. My guess is the staff wants him to use his size and he's responding... time will tell.

Faceoffs? need as much work there as the PP. To be fair, it's still early. As long as they show a little improvement game to game I think they'll be fine. The effort certainly has been there. Rand was still playing with his lines yesterday and seems to have found a decent one with Tufto-Smith-Macmaster. Next weeks 2 games on the road should help the team gel together a little more.

I agree on #10 sometimes faceoffs are work of wings. Some of our wings are turning puck over to much. Great moves fast but then running into traffic and back comes puck. Turnovers turnovers turnovers...if we fix that we go all the way!! Fun team to watch with 2 freshman stepping up.
I think the European guy somebody mentioned not eligible this year

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

I wasn't able to make it to the on Saturday. We watched the ESPN 3 feed and I'm happy to say the stream ran smoothly with no issues.
I was happy to see lot's of scoring chances. Now, If they can figure out how to place the puck between the goalie and the post we'd be all set :).
It's still early in the season, and I see lots of promise in this team. Tufto scoring his first two goals and McMaster getting his first will hopefully be the first of many for them.
The past few years they started hot and things got tougher as the season went on. Maybe this is the year they start slowly, improve all season and peak at the right time.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

This is a tough road weekend. NU is a solid team that can score. We'll need a good defensive effort and have to find some offensive flow.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2017-18: Chase the dream...

Huge road win! Not the prettiest performance but they got the job done. The 15 shots on goal is a little problematic but I'll take quality over quantity anytime. Landon finally buried a chance in front, Tufto was as filthy as I've seen in a while, and MacMaster fired a laser... all good signs from our top line.

Expect both teams to make significant adjustments for tomorrow. I suspect it might be a much lower score as both teams will tighten up their play. A sweep would be huge going into the off-week before league play begins.
