Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

LOL! I bet you couldn't find a QU fan a week ago that said that the polls didn't matter.
While I wanted it badly, I understood what it did (or didn't) mean. I wanted it as recognition for what they have accomplished, and as bragging rights for the school, alumni, and fans.

You get all bitter and jaded if you think you won't have it. You could at least wait until they lose the #1 before squeezing the bitter grapes and making wine.
A win tonight and a Gopher loss tomorrow might keep things as is. I'm ok with losing the poll ranking as long as they're still doing what needs to be done. I don't think there's a QU fan out there that thought they'd ever be #1 this late in the season with so many other things going right at the same time.

Just look at this thread title. Back in October the goal (from a fan's perspective) was to get to the top 4 in the ECAC and secure a 1st round bye. To have clinched the regular season crown (with 3 weeks left) is an achievement I didn't think we'd see this year.

Regardless, Quinnipiac is a very good team and anyone that underestimates them may be sorry.
This is why I'm not too upset with last night's loss (or the probable loss of #1) because I think it will inspire the team to start anew. The character and heart of this team is different from any other I've witnessed over the last six or seven years. To me that's what makes us dangerous.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

After breaking out the white home sweaters and everyone shaving off the muzzy's, a new streak has begun! 2-1 over Clarkson. A great bounce back from last night. Poor Hartzy... lost the shutout with 13.7 seconds left. But he was huge tonight making some really big saves when he needed to.

They need to keep everything in perspective as there's still 2 weeks left in the regular season and the games still mean something for the PairWise. Yale and Brown next weekend at the Bank to close out the home schedule. Yale is sliding the wrong way but the game is still huge on several levels. It's THE home game of the season and has been circles on the calendar since the schedule was released.

After the game the team was presented the Cleary Cup for being the ECAC regular season champions! Step one complete. Great job boys! Keep the hammer down.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

They looked unreal in the first period tonight. Flying all over the ice. Last two periods were good enough -- not great, but serviceable. They got the job done. Very, very good effort.

Word from the booth is that Goodie and Harvey still have the stache. Heck of a post game interview, Hartzell was hilarious saying "I didn't touch it, but I looked at it." I was dying laughing.

Just got home from the game. Hartzell was great tonight though real ****ed at himself for letting in that one at the end. Thought Clarkson controlled the play a lot in the 3rd period. Also picked up a blue jersey as well. On future scheduling I have heard they are planning an ice breaker at Quinnipiac that potentially involves Boston College, Penn State and Niagara for next year. Also heard that Quinnipiac won't travel to the big boys unless they get guaranteed a return a trip to Hamden.

I was looking at the banners tonight, and it had me wondering when QU is going to host a tournament again.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

The Q cup tournament has not happened in years though it was terrible tournament in which Quinnipiac usually invited some bad teams.

Yeah, I remember it. Lots of CHA and AHA teams. Now that QU is starting to build itself up a little bit, I would hope they will restart it.

From what I've heard, Harvs was the only one that looked good! I've seen Goodie's in person and it needs... work.

Definitely worth watching.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

I guess since nobody has said it yet, I will be the one to bring it up: The Wave.

I want to sincerely apologize for some of the students in the student section lately. While the numbers of students have been alright, the quality hasn't been there. My friends and I in the front row try to keep it classy and traditional, but a lot of the other students, namely freshman, don't quite get it yet. Its a quagmire because on one hand, you like to see other students come out and get excited about the team, but on the other some of the chants and things they do are face-palm worthy.

Regardless, nice to see the boys get back on the horse last night and get the win. Would've loved Hartzy to get the shutout, especially for his Hobey credentials, but I will still take the win. Hopefully this team remains focused for the rest of the season.

Oh, and BEAT YALE

First off, nice to see your face in some of the Cleary Cup photos! You'll be forever etched in Bobcats hockey lore!

Eh, we've seen the wave before. While not a fan, I guess I'd rather see them do that than just sit there. And you certainly don't need to apologize for your fellow students. I've seen you and your group first hand over the past few seasons (at home and on the road) and you do more than enough to make the student section special.

I think a bigger issure last night was the fact that so many of them left way before then end of the game. Yeah, I know, Saturday night, shuttles to New Haven, yada, yada, yada. But the message about the Cleary presentation immediately after the game was displayed numerous time throughout the 3rd. I would think that would have been enough incentive to stick around for another 1/2 hour. Kudos to all the diehard students that did.

I'll take the little steps, though. If we can get the kids to show up regularly, then we can work on educating them on student section "etiquette". Just imagine the Bank as an intimidating venue for visiting teams. ;)

There were a lot of students there, but boy were they quiet! That's why I think they shouldn't hand out thundersticks -- people just bang those things and don't actually make any noise.

One thing I'd love to see the students do more of is actual hockey-related chants. For example, when the Clarkson goalie was getting his mask checked, I'd love to hear the "Ugly Goalie" chant. I'd also like to hear "Hobey Baker" get chanted whenever Hartzell makes a big save.

And, glad to see in the five years since I've graduated, students still evacuate the building with 10 minutes left in the game. That's one tradition at Quinnipiac that you don't see anywhere else!

Thanks Mark, glad to know I will have left my mark at this university! :D

Here's the thing about the shuttles though: shuttles to New Haven were not running last night. Apparently snow removal in New Haven has been a little slower than planned, so the shuttles did not run at all this weekend. The student exodus was probably to just to resume their night ;) Its infuriating to us students that are at the game two hours before and stay for the entire thing.

As for the wave, my main concern is the safety of the fans. Pucks have been flying off the ice at the Bank this year, and we have already had some people seriously injured. With the wave, fans tend to pay attention to the wave more than the game itself, which can be dangerous if a puck enters the stands. Additionally, it also can distract some fans from seeing a pivotal play/goal, which I hate. Side note- it infuriated me that the guys that started the wave could stand up for that, but not for the regular game action.

ZYanks: My friends and I started Hobey Baker chants after pretty much any impressive save from Hartzell Friday and Saturday. The reason you probably didn't hear it is that most of the students don't know what the Hobey Baker is. I know I am speaking in generalities, but as a senior at QU that has been to pretty much every game in my four years, I can tell you that the students are not incredibly knowledgeable about the history/storylines/implications for each game. Now this is something that can be fixed. With continued success comes more regular students, who I think (hope) will start their own traditions. Remember this is a team with not a lot of established tradition, so it's time to make some.

And one more time, BEAT YALE

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

In todays games, Minnesota lost to Wisconsin (weekend split), Miami lost to Notre Dame (weekend split), and UNH-BC ended in a tie (BC loss/tie, UNH tie).

Not sure what any of this means so I'll let the pollsters figure it out tomorrow.

Thx for the update. We are sure the Bobcats are very comfortable with what the pollsters decide.

Let's not sugarcoat anything here. There's no Horizontal Surprise when it comes to most of the Quinnipiac fans: Most suck.

The wave is stupid because the wave is stupid. I hoped a puck would hit somebody mid-wave. That would have been the most poetic justice of all time. I also hope somehow pucks can hit people during the T-shirt giveaways. I loath those who can only be bothered to cheer and stand to A) look like a moron in a wave or B) win a cheap T-shirt that won't fit. Screw them and all of them who are going to inevitably get Yale tickets over students who actually go to games and know what's happening at games.

I will say, though, the front row regulars looked extra attractive Saturday night. Lots of Bobcats, One Cup!

Also, credit to the Fighting Frykases for knocking off Minnesota this afternoon. Gives us a reason to look forward to Monday's poll to see just how many teams pick up No. 1 votes. Thx Badgers (and Irish)!
