Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!
Commence the whine line about losing first place votes.

The USCHO.com poll is a joke. Quinnipiac pounds a top 10 team in Yale on the road yet remains number 2 and even loses 2 votes in the poll. Yes they tied Brown on Friday night but at least Brown is closer to .500 than Alaska Anchorage who Minnesota tied earlier this. AA is a brutal 3-16-7 on the season while Brown is 8-9-5. These pollsters just don't want to drop a historic program like Minnesota for a no name program that is head and shoulders the best team in the country.
Exactly. But I also understand the desire to have some bragging rights. Can anyone say that this team hasn't taken care of business when it needed to?You're still top in the one that does matter (PWR)

Haha that's funny right there, hardly "head and shoulders the best team" very solid sure, but you guys are not OMFGJDHJDHU better than Minn BC UNH etc...
Unfortunately they can. QU should have won on Friday against a clearly inferior team. IMO, had they won both nights with the Yale score QU would have the #1 rank. I was hoping they would because it means a lot to a school to be ranked #1 regardless of what people on this board say. Is it a national championship? No. But it is recognition for the quality of play that a team has achieved.Exactly. But I also understand the desire to have some bragging rights. We see terrible calls night in and night out. They all even out by the end of the season. QU was the far better team for 2 periods on Saturday and that's why they won by a lopsided margin. Enough talk about the refs. They continually stink for everyone.
Minnesota will not go undefeated the rest of the way![]()
I hope so too.Hope you're wrong with this one.....
Everyone has the right to complain about the refs, actually a QU poster brought it up. When 2 of the 3 QU PP goals are from questionable calls, it is only natural to want to complain about it. Those calls changed the complexion of the game IMO. Not taking anything away from the Q players or fans, that is just the way I saw it from a very good vantage point. Did Yale not deal with the adversity very well? Absolutely! But some of the lack of composure was brought on by the fact that they were getting hosed by the refs in the second period. Still no excuse for the embarrassing display in the third.
Yale was outplayed. We scored first two goals on PP. I would guess the QU coach fired up team after that by insisting that they come out hitting hard, and take control. They did just that thereafter. In fact there should have been a 5 minute major called on QU for boarding just shortly after second goal (ref gave only 2 minutes), but there was no way Yale was going to get a 5 more minutes of power play already up 2-0 in the first period on two power play goals.
The QU second goal to tie the game was a result of a very shaky Yale goalie. In fact, the first goal would have been saved by a good goalie, but the second, any average goalie should have stopped. After going into the first intermission tied, QU came out and completely dominated the 2nd period. Yes, there were some bad calls against Yale, including one of the worst I have ever seen on that interference on an injured players skating off the ice in the third period. For a QU fan to deny this is the equivalent of a Yale fan saying we were robbed of a victory due to refs.
QU was by far the better team Saturday night. No question about it. They broke the Yale forecheck easily, crashed the net, and were solid on D. Hopefully Yale uses the game to learn from mistakes and how they can improve.
Good luck to both teams moving forward. QU needs to keep winning to preserve an overall #1 seed in the NCAAs (very important). Yale needs to keep winning to make the NCAAs. Here is to hoping that the next time these two meet we are both riding winning streaks again.

Are you serious? I never made any such accusation. I simply stated my opinion on how/why the play was called the way it was. I never said I was right, that the call was right, or that the Yale fan was wrong. In fact, my reply was to a fellow Bobcat fan (ZYanks).said Q fan accused the Yale fan who brought it up as viewing the game through (whatever colors Yale is) colored glasses
If you watch the replay (2:11:33 - 2:11:45) it looks like the right call. As Fallen was slowly skating up ice (he was moving down the center of the ice, not towards the bench), the puck came back into Yale's end and was being played by Miller. Langlois circled around to pursue him and Fallen was between them (and within a stick length of the puck). Langer appeared to pull up but still made incidental contact and Fallen whacked him pretty good in the mid section with his stick. I saw nothing intentional, dirty, or nasty on Langers part, other than he made contact with a kid supposedly injured.
Now, the initial hit on Fallen behind the net looked questionable but the ref was right there and didn't call it. Looked to me like Fallen was trying to sell it and then got his panties bunched up when no call was made. It even looks like he might be saying something to Langlois as he's smacking his stick on the ice.
I realize my blue and gold colored glasses may obscure a thing or two, but that whole sequence was indicative of Yale's play in the last half of the game. They tried to get physical but got chippy instead and it cost them. They came close to losing all composure later in the 3rd as well.

For whoever was throwing the UAA tie out there, Minnesota dropped a spot in the poll that week. The poll is VERY dependent on the current week and usually the #1 team will not drop while on a bye unless a dominating performance is put up by a contender. The bottom line is the Brown tie prevented that.
QU - Just keep winning. Minnesota will not go undefeated the rest of the way and you will continue to have your chance to take the #1 spot. We can work out who is better in the post-season.![]()
