Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

I am a bit concerned that we have not really seen this team click since the home and home against Princeton (save for the 3rd period against Union). A "No. 2" team in the nation should not be struggling like this team has against some of these opponents.
Hammer, meet nail. The struggle to find the back of the net is what needs to be addressed. Not enough biscuits in the basket.

That being said, they have a great opportunity to turn things around tomorrow night in what I think can be argued as the biggest regular season game in program history. Between the rivalry, national rankings, pairwise, chase for the Cleary Cup, NCAA tourney seeding, and regional bragging rights, the argument is definitely there.
There is an awful lot riding on this game...

Kudos to the Quinnipiac Alumni showing up in numbers, but still I was thinking there was going to be a bigger Bruno faithful showing.
Imagine if their band wasn't there.

Got to agree with Larson here. Really should have had the two points tonight against a Brown team that they are certainly more talented then. Bummer that the team just could not separate themselves from Brown, but at least the unbeaten streak stays in tact. Side note - Boy was the Brown crowd a late arriving crowd tonight. Kudos to the Quinnipiac Alumni showing up in numbers, but still I was thinking there was going to be a bigger Bruno faithful showing.

Quinnipiac's record at Meehan is always awful, because you're either looking ahead to Yale, or still flying high after the Yale game, and playing in an absolute morgue. It's just a tough game to play, due to the previous/next day's game, and the fact there is absolutely zero atmosphere in that rink.

According to the game notes, QU hasn't won at Meehan since 2009. And it's not because Brown is a good team.

Quinnipiac is 2-4-1 all-time at Meehan, and 9-1-1 vs Brown at The Bank.

Don't get down too much, the Meehan Morgue seems to suck the life out of numerous great teams over the years. That place is our personal house of horrors (SLU), as it always seems no matter how good of a team we have or how much we dominate them, we will not come out of there with an easy win. I think Brown has taken atleast 1 point from us for the past 20-25 years... usually down there.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

If you can't win in an almost neutral site (due to the lack of a vocal home contingent) you don't deserve to win. It's that simple. No more excuses about teams coming to Meehan and not performing because of the lack of atmosphere. That's bull, and we all know it. Accept that you didn't deserve two points and move on.

Yes, tonight's game as big as it gets, and all the recent hype in the press has cemented the "rivalry" status. On the ice it comes down to the Yale offense against the Quinnipiac defense, and goaltending at both ends. Statistically the Bobcats are the better team in almost all categories (exception: powerplay) but that means nothing if there's no execution. Q needs to come out and stifle the Bulldogs and Hartzell has got to have one of his best performances. The late January layoff never does us much good so maybe last night was just what they needed to get back to game mode.

We all know the game is sold out and Ingalls will be rockin'. The blue and gold needs to be loud and support the team in a hostile environment. The team needs to play like they did against Cornell, Union, and SLU earlier in the season. Dig deep, play hard, and leave it all on the ice.

Go Q!

Yes, LT I do love this team......and my Alma Mater. Mercifully, the Yale All Access feed was out of commission for about the first 5 minutes of the game, and we were spared having to see the Ammon/Malcolm collision !!!

Some more interesting news from chip here.
http://nhrcollegehockey.blogspot.com/2013/01/yale-home-games-back-on-air.html

The Yale All Access team has been given a great boost lately by some private funding from an alum who loves the team, I believe it upgraded them to be able to have instant replay and a scoreboard shot. WYBC will also be carrying the Yale home and away games over the radio airwaves (just like the good old days) there is a good post on the Yale thread about that.

Hey, great game by both teams last night.

But.... champions don't need to make excuses, especially excuses about the atmosphere (or lack) in the opponent's rink! Come on.

Like last night, every time I've been to Meehan the crowd was pro-Q with plently of alumni in attendance. I'm sure the guys on the ice knew we were there with all the thundersticks and noise, so I don't think it's the "atmosphere" as much as the fact that we're always looking ahead or back to the Yale matchup like ZYanks said. Plus, Brown played a heck of a game and we couldn't solve Borelli.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Tremendous effort. Not sure what those first seven minutes were, but after that it was no contest.

If the Bobcats aren't No. 1 on Monday, there needs to be an investigation.

I'd like to know what Rand said when he took the timeout. They were a different team after that. Hartzy had a rough start but was a rock the rest of the way... that was a big part of the outcome as well. Whatever the reason, it was a huge effort in a huge game and they hopefully made a statement with the lopsided score.

At this point one has to think we did enough to move up.

Great win by Q! Does it feel slightly tainted with Malcolm out?
Was that our fault or problem? We play the team put on the ice against us. I don't feel it's tainted at all.

Unbelievable game with an even more unbelievable turnaround. I won't say I gave up hope going down 2-0 but it wasn't looking good. Play was erratic and Yale had us pinned in our end for long stretches. We had no answer for their forecheck and couldn't sustain any presence in their end. But as soon as Rand took the timeout, the tide started to shift. Hartzy settled in, and the D began to perform. Dahlsy's goal sparked them and Hibbeler's lit 'em on fire. After that it was almost lights out. The 2nd period was all Q and then some. As expected, things got a little out of control in the 3rd and Yale got a bit chippy. Lot's of stuff after the whistle that wasn't called and some questionable calls on top of that.

If there was a good time to find a powerplay, tonight was it. While it still needs a lot of work, I'll take 3 PPG's regardless of how they got in. And Kellen's shortie was the proverbial nail.

It was just a great game with great atmosphere. A really decent Q contingent, including the pep band. The Whale got eerily silent in the 3rd too for some reason.

Great job, boys!

Officiating was bad, but it was bad in Quinnipiac's benefit. Lots of missed calls, Yale took a number of retaliation penalties where the ref didn't see what QU's player did, but saw what Yale's player did.

The biggest one was when the Yale player was skating off injured, and Langlois hits him away from the puck. Should have been interference (and, considering the kid was hurt, was a little bit dirty and very nasty), then the Yale kid takes a swing at Langlois. Of course, the Yale kid is the one that goes to the box.

Classy to admit it, was not going to rain on the QU parade but the 2 of the 3 powerplay goals by QU were from iffy calls. It was older men against boys tonight though. When boys get spanked they lose composure.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '12-'13 - Go fourth and conquer!

Awesome win tonight that should elevate them to number 1 regardless of the tie to Brown this weekend. Next weeks road trip to Cornell/Colgate is huge even though Cornell is having a down year.
