Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Game day at the Bank!

Clarkson comes in tonight after a split last weekend. I'm never sure what to think of this team but considering they've got a new coach I think we can handle them at home.

Our offense has to wake up after the debacle at Harvard last weekend. Two goals isn't going to win many games in this league. My only real concern about the Bobcats is between the pipes. Clarke and Hartzell both struggled (or at least didn't look their best) last week.

It would be great to see a huge student turnout tonight. Not sure they'll come but I expect the crowd will be decent. It has to be since Clarkson generally travels well.

Go Q!

Unfortunately, I would not get your hopes up on a great student turnout tonight. I very well could be wrong, but I don't know if a lot will show up. Tonight is the Men's Basketball season opener at Mohegan Sun vs Fairfield, and I know that a lot of my friends who are big into QU Athletics will be going to that game (myself included). Hopefully, the freshman that can not get rides to Mohegan Sun, or others that don't feel like driving 45 minutes to watch a depleted team lose to Fairfield will stay and watch go to the hockey game. Interestingly, the Athletic Director Jack McDonald has vehemently denied providing a fan bus to Mohegan (something they have done the past 2 years for the Connecticut 6 Classic) because he wants students showing up at the hockey game tonight. So who knows, but I would not "Bank" on a big student turnout tonight.

In other news, tonight should be a real competitve game. We have a preview of tonights game, and our Athlete of the Week article on Peca up on our blog if you guys want to check it out. http://www.theqbsn.com/

Did he really say this? My goodness. QU hockey comes first for me but that's ridiculous.

Any thoughts on the student turnout for SLU? Will be making my first trip up in almost a year. Imagine they'll be more there than the NYE games against UNO.

Tough to say with a 4:00 start. Maybe they'll surprise us...

Umm not that I care about the men's basketball team, but wouldn't the team playing a showcase game (if you can call it that) at Mohegan warrant some student support?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Frustrating result but a fairly well played game by the Bobcats. Out shot Clarkson 44-12! If it wasn't for Karpowich the score might have been 11-1. Overall I thought the compete level was up there but it seemed like several guys were pressing a bit too hard. Hartzell looked ok with the paltry amount of shots he faced. One area of concern is the powerplay. We were 1 for 7 tonight and need to really to work on improving that. The PP looks good but they're just not getting good quality chances on net.

A point is better than nothing so now we need to shoot for a 3 point weekend.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

Got to catch the last like 2 minutes of the third period and overtime after getting back from the mens basketball game last night, so I dont really know how the team looked last night, but from what I am hearing it was just one of those nights where the opposing goalie simply decided to play out of his mind. We need to start getting some conference wins eventually, but I'll take a tie and a point I guess.

Pleasantly surprised to see the crowd when I got back to the game though. I guess finally our first Friday night game of the year got more of the locals and students out the Bank. I don't know how the crowd was for the whole game, but when I got there I could definitely feel the excitement and electricity. Granted I got there for the most exciting part of the game, but still, it was nice to see. Hopefully we have something similar today!

We have our write-up from last nights game up on the blog now too. http://www.theqbsn.com/2011/11/mens-hockey-ties-in-aggressive-ecac.html

Withouta doubt Karpowich was the difference last night.

I agree. It's time to start winning games that should be won and stealing a few of those that shouldn't. SLU isn't hitting on all cylinders yet but took a big win against Princeton last night. Nothing's easy in the ECAC but todays game is definitely one we should win.

An absolutely terrible weekend. One point at home in 2 games that should have been wins. The offense has gone to sleep and the powerplay is non-existent. I'm not even sure what the problem is other than everyone seems to be pressing to the point where thay can't get any flow. Lot's of shots on net but not many 2nd or 3rd chances. Two points in 2 weekends is not going to get it done in this league.

QU Athletics did sponsor a bus that was full of students who wanted to go to Mohegan. Also heard that QU had more students than any other CT6 college. Pretty neat that our students shows up for Friday's MHOK game vs. Clarkson, WBB game vs. James Madison and a bus load and more at the CT6. QU has great school spirit.

I was at the game, and every student that I talked to there transported themselves personally. The students sitting courtside all provided their own means of getting to the game. There were 4 students that traveled on the cheer-leading bus, but that is as far as I am aware of a bus. The president of the student spirit group that tried to coordinate a fan bus was denied that opportunity. Doesn't matter though, that game is over.

For those who are not aware, College Hockey Inc. held a top goalie mask in the nation competition over Facebook, and after a couple of rigorous rounds of voting, Eric Hartzell ousted Kent Patterson of the University of Minnesota in the finals to win. Pretty cool to see the large support of the team on Facebook beat the 4th largest university in the nation. One of the greatest upsets in the history of college athletics? Its right up there

This is just awesome!

Just goes to show that Bobcats are better than Gophers! ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '11-'12 - Time to say bye?

A very tough road weekend ahead. Colgate is playing well and Cornell is always a fight. If the boys go back to what they were doing prior to league play I think they'll be ok. The need to play with some passion and stick to the basics... no need for anything fancy.

My guess is Hartzell goes tonight against the Raiders. It's a game we can win for sure, but it's not going to be handed to us. Go out and work hard, play smart.
