Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Heck of an effort this weekend by the Bobcats.

Brown is a tough draw, but I'm glad we're at home. Let's keep our undefeated first round series streak in tact!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

The way QU likes to play to ties this year... they may get a crack at challenging their longest college hockey game ever played record.

This should indeed be a tight series with overtime inevitably playing into it. Brown is dangerous as they proved last weekend against Cornell and Colgate. I have no idea what to expect crowd-wise but with Yale on a bye, the public should turn out.

How about Brooks Robinson? The kid doesn't play for what seemed like an eternity and goes out and pots two goals in two games, including the big one down two against Union which kick started the club. I still haven't figured out why Clarkie got the start Friday and not Hartz but he wasn't bad and maybe lit a fire under Hartzell going into Saturday knowing that someone was there to take his job. Regardless, I think it should be a one man job this weekend especially in a best of three atmosphere.

I'll go with the Bobcats winning in three with all games being tightly contested.

Nice work last weekend, not an easy feat to draw twice versus two quality opponents. Good luck this weekend!

This goes against my usually optimistic outlook but I have to be honest... OT in this series scares me. I think we can hold our own in a 5-min sudden death, but a full 20-min OT combined with our inability to put the puck in the net might spell trouble. We need to finish the job in the first 60 minutes!

I agree with the theory about Rand trying to light a fire under Hartzell by starting Clarke this past Friday.
Hartzell's save percentage this season was 92% compared to Clarke's 88%.
I can't see why Rand would start Clarke.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I know one thing for sure about tonight's game: it won't end in a tie!

This is going to be a hard fought series. My guess is it will go 3 games and all of them will be close. The Bobcats need to find some rhythm in their offensive game. We've already seen twice this year where we get up by a couple of goals early only to have Brown come back and tie it. Defense and goaltending will be key to taking these games. Hartzell needs to play huge and get support out front. We'll also need to stay out of the box.

Hopefully the Bank is full and loud tonight. It would be really nice to see a big student turnout as well. We need all the advantages playing at home has to offer. I'll take a 3-2 win tonight!

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

One down, one to go! Quite possibly the best 3 periods of hockey the Bobcats have had all year. They never let up and skated hard all game long.

Clarke got the start and was awesome! Seemed to see the puck well and made several nice saves. He also had a ton of help out in front which we haven't seen consistently all year.

Langer scoring 15 seconds into the game set the tone. Clemente seemed frazzled almost from the get-go and was yanked after giving up his 4th. Brown had moments where they looked like they might turn the corner but we were able to shut them down pretty much all night long.

Lots of hard work by everyone on the ice and it paid off! Hopefully they can keep it up tomorrow when I expect we'll see a different game plan from the Bears. It's always nice to win the first one and a sweep would be even nicer!

You know I gotta ask... how was the playoff crowd?

Nice win. What's QU's record in first round games since they joined the ECAC? Gotta be getting pretty ridiculous.

Crowd? What crowd? :(

Student turnout was terrible... sorry, but there's no excuse for that. The regular crowd wasn't too bad, but far from being a sellout. A little quiet, but we've gotten used to that.

There weren't many Brown fans either which surprised me. Perhaps tomorrow will be different...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I attended the game this evening and was very impressed with QU, they came out hard and never stopped, even slowing down the manic Harry Z, who did not look like himself tonight. Q was quicker to the puck and challenged every move Brown made. I will say that in the third scoreless period the game turned into what I had expected tonight, which was very hard hitting and tightly played. Harry did manage to injure Davies , he was flying around hitting guys just as they released the puck and the last hit sent Davies directly to the locker room with about 1:30 left in the game. Wish I could attend tomorrow bur it is my anniversary. Go Q! Keep that TUC ranking!

I was at the game and also disappointed by the crowd size, I would figure that the New haven hockey local crowd would be all over this, but it seems not so, even the radio announcer from QU commented on the lack of crowd and could not explain the lack of attendance. I will mention that the cheapest seat is $13 and they do not offer standing room tickets for sale to walk up patrons during the playoffs.

Game 2 in about 5 hours. Can the Bobcats come out with the same intensity as they did last night and who will we see in net?

My gut says we'll see Hartzell tonight... I think Rand is making sure we have 2 solid netminders at the ready when we make it past this weekend. As for the intensity, I believe the boys will be fired up. Naturally Brown will be a different team tonight but I'm hopefull that we can make the necessary adjustments to stay ahead of them. Another solid defensive effort and strong goaltending should allow the offense to put a few more in the net.

As much as I love the Bobcats, I don't really want to see a game 3 tomorrow night. Let's put 'em away tonight and wait to see where the road takes us next weekend!

I'll take Q 4-1 tonight.

Go Q!

Yeah I saw that too. Davies has missed the past few weekends and was questionable coming in so I'm thinking Dirty Harry may have reaggrivated something. Davies is as solid as they get so losing him would be unfortunate but we do have a wealth of defensemen.

Excellent start to the game which turned into a delightful finish. It was never really in question. Turnout is a joke and really disappointing. I think there's something to be said about having a ranking next to your name. It seems to make people turnout more. I expect more Brown faithful tonight. The Friday games are tough for visiting teams. Finish em off tonight boys!
