Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

bump

pathetic

Here's an update for you: Players just finished finals last week, and are probably home for the holidays. There's not exactly a whole lot of hockey news going on.

Is that what was pathetic? That no one had posted in here since the last game?

Yanks I get that there's been no hockey. But you can't deny that in years past the banter, discussion, etc. has continued throughout the break. Something is different and I think it mainly revolves around the local fan base that is able to get to games. Its nice seeing Quinn back on here and with yourself and Minni far away its actually a tribute to you guys. When you were local this thing actually worked. Now its just Mark and myself chattin back and forth. So the pathetic by no means was directed at you guys but rather the lack of local supporters on here.

Look forward to your match up with our UNO Mavs in a ten days - Just split with Colorado College and should have some of our injuries healed up by the time we head East.

Any UNO fans plan on making the trip. I know with New Years and everything it could be complicated...maybe spend the night in NYC? I'm also very excited to have a top notch team head into the Bank. If we could take at least one of two from your crew it may turn around our season. Either way, we've always been able to show up against high caliber teams, so I expect some closely contested games. Hope to see some Mavs fans in Hamden.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I think this down time could play out well for the team. They now have five weeks of only hockey to focus on. They'll have a few days off for the holiday to be with family if travel allows and then they get to concentrate and work hard at fixing the small mistakes we've consistently been making so far this season. It is definitely a much different feel being in season during the break when all you have to commit to is your sport, rather than worrying about class work and just the general buzz of school being in session.
If we're going to make improvements, I believe this will be the time we see it. (Note I'm not saying wins (though that'd be nice) but improvements in play)

Oh goodness, let's please not start another chat about our fanbase, haha.

I just think it's the way sports and fandom goes. There's less excitement around campus/Hamden this year, I presume, because the team isn't as good. Give us another trip deep into the playoffs, you'll see all the little Bobcats running around again.

So that's what you alumni call 'em! :D

I guess there's a direct correlation between the performance on-ice and online. Unfortunately there's nothing any of us can do about that. :(

Perhaps Santa can bring the team a successful second half... ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

These boards have been sadly quiet. If anything, it just shows that there's no one new interested enough in QU hockey to come seek means of discussing and sharing their thoughts on the team. In past years it was always a revolving door of new fans.

Both the team/program and the fan base need a jolt of life asap.

Doubt there will be many Mav fans in attendance because of the timing and distance involved. You will get to see some fun hockey though - Blais has this team run and gun up and down the ice so unless the Bobcats are a trap, dump and chase style you will be in for a treat. We have a couple of our strongest players injured so we will not be a full strength but while we are among the top teams in the nation in scoring we spread that load over lots of players. We are also the tallest team in Division I including a 6'8" freshman from the Czech Republic who coach believes in headed for the NHL in the next few years.

We have one of our fastest teams in recent memory so the action should flow nicely. Talent-wise I think you have us beat but we can skate with any team in the country. Should be fun!

Yeah I saw that on CHN, note that we are in the bottom third for height. Your guys aren't exactly skipping any steakhouses either in Omaha also leading the nation in average weight. We are the nation's second lightest team to only Air Force who must keep trim so that their jets don't crash. Needless to say in terms of size we are looking at an on paper David vs. Goliath. In terms of talent I don't believe we are a bottom tier team but you have to look at those staggering size differences and shake your head.19 of your 26 rostered players are over 6 feet tall with 8 coming in at 6-3 or taller. We have only 13 of our 28 rostered players over 6 feet with only 5 6-3 or taller. I guess we'll hope for a lot of contact to the head calls on simple checks.

We have only 3 players who have been drafted by the NHL so while I think UNO has talent I also think we are better conditioned and have a better team flow then a lot of more talented teams with higher #'s of NHL drafted players. We have only been swept once and in that series (Beminji) we played poorly on Friday and just didn't get the breaks on Saturday
- Other losses were due to hitting an inspired Michigan team after we beat them soundly the night before, just getting nipped by North Dakota 6 to 5 and then this past weekend when we were flagged for nine penalities in a row and spent most of the second and third period in the penalty box. UNO plays an upscale and hard checking game so they average lots of penalty minutes. The defense plays well in front of the goalie John Faulkner so he now leads the country in shut outs (4).

Glad to hear you run and gun because I guarantee you it will be a fun set of hockey games.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Plenty of excitement about our men's bball team (7-2). They've actually been fun to watch this year.

Agreed... I was up there for the Vermont game -- they lost, but it was fun to see them playing at that caliber. They're an NCAA Tournament caliber team.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I'd like to wish all the Bobcats, their families, friends and fans a safe and happy holiday season!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Merry Christmas all. First trip of the year to the Sports Center on Thurs for this guy.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

A tough pair coming up tonight and tomorrow. UNO seems to be a solid team and should be a good test to see what we're really made of.

It's been just shy of 3 weeks since our last game so hopefully any minor injuries have been taken care of. Unfortunately it's the mental aspect that has me worried. If the guys come out with the right mindset they should be okay. If they're still in holiday/break mode I hate to think what might happen.

We have everything we need to skate with a team like Nebraska; the question is will we? Whatever happens, I hope they can at least play 2 solid games to get ready for the league onslaught that begins Monday at Princeton.

The best I can do for a predicition is a split. UNO takes game 1 and rebound tomorrow.

Go Q!
