Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Guys, I'm ready to go down w/ the ship
I recently read this quote from Bart Starr:
Bart Starr said:
Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage.
Does this mean I'm courageous, or just crazy? :p

did you expect anything else from this game?
I always expect a win! I seriously thought that this was the perfect opportunity for the team to gut out a win.

Now we have to face a tough Cornell team with arguably one of the best goaltenders and defenses in the league. Combine their style of play and our recent struggles and it's really going to take a whole bunch of luck to eke out a win. I'm not saying we can't do it... just that it's a really steep hill to climb.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Courage... yes. This is also the time for those of us who love the Bobcats to be patient and to remain loyal. We may play only a small part in the spirit and morale of our team, but right now the guys need all the support we can give them. Let's hope for a big crowd at Friday night's game against Cornell and make some noise. Sooner or later we're going to win again and imagine how good it's going to feel!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

The QU supporters on this site is fantastic. There are those that are eternal optimists and those who prefer to try to temper their expectation all things considered. I love the balance that keeps everyone in check. Win or lose we're on here talking hockey.

Here's where I think I'll break character: Next weekend is set up a lot better for a bounce-back effort than Friday or the Niagara games.

Yup, Cornell is the class of the ECAC (41 GA, really?) and Colgate are enjoying a nice season of their own but how did that away series against these teams pan out? Would anyone be upset w/ a repeat in results?

I've always believed this team gained an extra hop in their step for big games and both these games fit the bill. Big conference opponent? Check. Big, rowdy home crowd? Check. Alumni Weekend? Check. National TV cameras broadcasting each game LIVE? Check.

In my mind, these are prime conditions for a big QU win. Will the team come out flat or will we start seeing hard work pay off and the seniors leading the way in the lockeroom and on the scoresheet?

I can't pretend to know the answers to these questions nearly as well as some of the ardent supporters on this site but I do know I'll be glued to my set each nite, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Spot on analysis of this thread and this upcoming weekend. I think the atmosphere will be huge this weekend. The student support is a joke. Talk about fairweather. It is understandable that not everyone is going to get up for Niagara, but I think we are giving them way too much credit in thinking that they know the difference between Niagara and say north country weekend earlier in the year, when they came out in full force.

There is no doubt in my mind that the boys will keep both games very close this weekend. Given the amount of shots theyve been putting on with relative ease, something has to give. I hope the alumni comes out and shows this current class of students what a real student section was like (see photo link at end of rant). It'll be a long week waiting in anticipation. Mark and I will be there in our usual spot hoping, praying and shouting.

Yeah, we're a small but enthusiastic group! ;)

A repeat performance would be fantastic!

We do seem to get up for the bigger games. They key is crowd support and I expect we'll see a very good student turnout. The louder the better IMHO! ;)

All they need is a little bit of luck. Bury one early, set the tone, and get (keep) the crowd into the game.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of us know the answers, but we do know what needs to be done.

The defense needs to step up and play solid, and whoever is in net has to be on their game. I'm going to assume we'll see Clarke on Friday... time for him to have a game and make some key saves. We need to get the momentum swung our way and sustain it.

It'll be a long week waiting in anticipation.
Is it Friday yet?

Mark and I will be there in our usual spot hoping, praying and shouting.
You know it!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

So, I'll answer my own inquiry. It seems a buddy of mine called for tickets yesterday and heard there was only standing room remaining which is nice and reassuring....but there's also word going around that Quinnipiac scheduled an alumni ball/gala Saturday which would conflict with the Colgate game. So, anyone who Saturday could look like one of those on-paper sellouts. Friday's crowd should be outstanding especially given that I'd assume some Cornell folks will be making the trip.

Yeah... there's one of those Alumni reunion dinner things Saturday night during game time. But it should still be a good crowd.

Sorry I missed the Sat. Niagra game guys, sick as sin.... listed online though. It was looking hopefully for quite awhile there.

Will miss the game Friday night for a track meet (yeah I know, but I'm the coach so I can't bail out on it). So if someone can keep score updates going that would be great. Will see you all there Saturday though.

As infuriating as this has been to watch lately, it's like a car crash... you just can't stop watching. It'll have to turn around at some point.

We can actually look to just two years ago for precedent. Alumni weekend that year also fell on the Cornell/Colgate weekend. If I recall correctly, the Cornell game was packed... though Cornell travels so well that those games always have a ton of people. I remember one year at the NIP, QU played Cornell over a break and it must have been 75% Cornell fans. Great atmosphere. Anyway, so you'd think that Friday the bank will be rockin.

Two years ago, the Colgate alumni weekend game was on Sunday afternoon and there was a pretty good afternoon crowd. So despite the alumni weekend alternate programming, you'd think a Saturday night game would still draw very well. A lot of the young alumni don't necessarily pony up for the fancy alumni weekend events... ha, or any of the events period. That is unless the event is taking place at Side Street or at whatever they call Dickermans now a days.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I may give an odd update on Fri, but knowing the Cornell fans on here, I doubt you'll be left wanting. They're usually all over it.

Bears repeating that both these games are LIVE on CBS College Sports. If you get NHL Network, Fox Soccer Channel or NFL Red Zone you probably already have it (Comcast). If you don't, you have a reason to go to a bar to watch. Not that a QU grad ever needs one of those in my experience.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

So, can we expect some alumni mojo to work in our favor on Friday? It would be awesome to drown out the Big Red faithful that will inevitably make the trip to the Bank! I also think it will inspire the team! ;)

Unfortunately not from my contingent.

Coventional wisdom says so, right? If anything our alumni, fueled on by nostalgia and watered down Sidestreet/Dickerman's drinks, should make their prescense known.

You'd also think there could be some former men's hockey alumni there. Could stand for some good inspiration for some of the young kids on our squad.

Add these to the "Why I'm Optimistic for this Weekend" post.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Unfortunately, with only 8 games left of this once very promising season, moves need to be made this weekend otherwise it will be time to accept this simply isn't a very good hockey team. I realize collective denial will set in, but "good" teams don't go two plus months with one win... and that one win coming against AIC.

Don't forget that tie against the mighty Crusaders of Holy Cross!

You're right on about needing to make a move this weekend. Time is running out to salvage what started out as a very promising season. What they need to do now is play the best that they can, win or lose, so that they are ready for the playoffs. That's one of the nice things about the ECAC format... every team goes into the playoffs with a chance to win it all. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I think the student turnout will be pretty good this weekend. Especially Friday night. I know a lot of people who are staying the weekend just to make these games. I think with the sale of "beat Yale" shirts already have fueled people's interest in the team.
i'm hoping to be at the game myself, though i've been battling a nasty cold all week.
it'll be an interesting weekend. that's for sure!
