Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Pecknold was there to guide this team through transition years coming from Division-II and entering the ECAC. Now the team is a nationally-recognized team that simply can't make that extra (and necessary) leap. For the past five years, they've been sitting in neutral with the talent to push towards the top of the ECAC. How far does this team have to sink in order for McDonald and Mecca to at least acknowledge that change has to come? Because frankly, I don't see how it can get any lower after the "performances" this team has put up over the past two months.

I'm just not so sure we've fallen that much. After last year, we lost a 10 person (?) senior class. We've brought in 11 new kids -- that's a rebuild. If our rebuild is still leaving us 8th or so in the league, that's really not terrible. If our rebuild is leaving us at a .500 record... well, things could be much worse.

Is this falling, or is it a cycle that every team goes through? Hey, Cornell wasn't a top of the league team for a couple of years, should they have fired their coach? It's a cycle, and he's the greatest ice hockey coach we've ever had here. That should also get him more than 2 years of unperforming teams.

Sorry if I came across as flip in my last post, it wasn't my intention, BTW.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

As a Colgate alum and partial Quinnipiac season ticket holder, I thought I'd throw in my $.02 on this whole Pecknold debate. I think the issue in the ECAC is that there is always going to be a razor's edge between the three seed and the ten seed. Although maybe not as overall competitive as some of the other major leagues, the ECAC is easily the most balanced: anybody can beat anybody else on any given night. To wit, just a few games ago Colgate had slipped to 7th, right behind you guys, and was seemingly going nowhere(not to mention the fact that our program has gone from 8 winning seasons in the 80s to 7 in the 90s to 3[plus the results of this year] in the 00s). I was about to post all sorts of crazy things about our coach. But you know what: we got hot and now head into the final weekend in 4th place with our destiny in our own hands. We could easily slip back to 7th this weekend. But again, that's the ECAC. You're up; you're down. The only things that have been constants since I started following the league in the late 80s are that Cornell is good and Brown generally isn't. Other than that, everything's up for grabs. You guys win 3 or 4 of games that got away this year and next year you'll be sitting on a bye at this time. . . .

All I know is that change has to happen from top to bottom with this team, and it has to start at the top.[/QUOTE]

I have made no qualms about my feelings on this situation. However, bear in mind that my opinion is strictly that, my opinion. If you disagree that's your prerogative. To the poster that insinuated that I have a hidden agenda because you disagree is an insult. This board exists to allow people freedom of expression and thought. That being said, I stand by my perspective that change needs to come to the Bobcats and the change needs to come from the top. Will it happen? Probably not. Doesn't mean I'll change my mind. And I don't expect you to change yours.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Down the stretch! - I agree that this senior class has a lot of class on and off the ice - They have performed well and worked very hard - They will be missed

JMB, Wong, Atkinson, Holt, Lampe all busted a nut this past weekend and all season - QU may have the best penalty kill in the country - The same old Power Play BS drives me crazy but Goaltending let them down and some bad D play by freshman

We have 13 freshman that start week in and week out that's a huge disadvantage

Rand as a coach has not shown me much - I'm not a big fan maybe its his attitude - He is not going away - He will be there until he decides to leave

Final weekend at the 'Bank and we need everyone going crazy!! That includes the Prep Band lets make some noise!!

QU - 4 Brown 2
QU keeps the Hat - 4-3

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Unfortunately the home team (QU) has three wins, two ties, and twelve losses in the last seventeen games. A win against Brown is probably the only chance the team will have to host a first round playoff series.

The good news is that Harvard plays two on the road, and Princeton has to play Yale.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

The hometeam newspaper is picking Yale.
Reverse psychology! :p

We cannot, and I mean CANNOT, look any farther than Friday night. The game against Brown turns out to be the biggest game of the year thus far. We need the 2 points to secure home ice. It's rather simple actually: WIN!

Being senior night, my first hope is that the crowd is there, and that they're loud... our seniors deserve it. My second hope is that those seniors can step up in a big way and lead this team. In addition, we need a solid effort by everyone else. This game is going to show us what the character and heart of this team is really made of.

I'm cautiously optimistic that all the pieces will fall into place and the home crowd will be our seventh man.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Just what the doctor ordered! I really good, solid effort by the Bobcats. We clinched home ice for the first round and can finish no worse than 7th. That takes the pressure off for tomorrow night. Nice job guys!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I had to leave early but a good win and more importantly good effort by the Bobcats.
We needed the win and the momentum for tomorrow

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Toknight after the playoff positions have been set, remember to look for the ECAC PICK THE PLAYOFFS THREAD . The ECAC PICK THE STANDINGS 2009 CHAMPION will be crowned Sunday AM.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Well last night was refreshing. Now, we turn to Yale in a game that really only matters in terms of pride. Our seniors stepped up big time led by captain JMB (2 G, 1 A). So many others stepped up too, (Barron 3 A, Dalhuisen 2 A, Arnt 1 G, 1 A, Langer 2 G, Atkinson 3 A)...the list continues. It was definitely a confidence builder and the team should go into tonight's game flying and playing hard. I don't believe any suspensions or DQs will carry over from last night. Brown seemed to have trouble losing with class...but that's another issue. It sure would make for an intense, chippy series in the playoffs if it happens.

On the 100 point front, Lampe and JMB are getting oh-so-close to reaching that impressive milestone that only a select few have at the D-1 level. Lampe goes into tonight's game and the post season with 96 and JMB with 94. I think they are both attainable, especially when tonight should turn into a definite shootout.

See ya up there tonight! Go Q!

BEAT YALE!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

This game may have been meaningless to the standings but it sure meant a lot to us QU fans. Congratulations to all th QU team for finishing the regular season in such an outstanding effort. My wife and me are in Naples Fl.,and we went to a sports bar. She got the owner to put NESN (QU-Yale) on the largest tv. We had many in the bar cheering for QU, even though they knew nothing about hockey. Hi Mark and Wonger- you must have had a great time tonight. Good luck in the playoffs. Jim (sect, 113)
