Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I have to say I thought Beaudry played an amazing game.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

As I've said repeatedly, imagine where this team would be without Beaudry. He is a solid goaltender and has kept this team in a number of games over the past two seasons.

I know that they are young men but it's a shame that they have no consistent scoring punch. It would be nice to have a few goal scorers on the team because the goaltending has been pretty good this season. Maybe the team's record would be a bit different?

I've got the feeling that they will rebound tonight against UMass and march into the HE playoffs with a solid showing against the weaker teams remaining on the schedule. :)

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Have you all voted for Beaudry at vote for Hobey?

Beaudry should sue his team mates for lack of support.

You know this thread has hit absolute rock bottom when Southie is launching "I told you so's". The problem here runs much deeper than Pooley...

PC91 is desparately needed in the Marvin atrocity thread. Cuz this horse isn't getting any deader.

:) I'm with you.

I do like the overall hustle of the players but it's talent that wins the day and this team lacks in that department. I think that the Friars have a special goaltender but can't score on a consistent basis and the defense is suspect. Since the coach recruited these players, the blame for the performance rests with him and Bobby extended this clown so he gets to share the blame pie!

It's sad to see what this program has become!!! Pathetic even because the worst is yet to come...

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Shouldn't the school President share the spotlight with the AD by now

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Forgot to mention a 0-12 (Big East) Depaul team and Keno sat two starters at the beginning of the game for disciplinary issues. Oh, and I forgot the disaster was seen on ESPN...I just looked up the 5 stages of grief on wikipedia:

1)Denial
2)Anger
3)Bargaining
4)Depression
5)Acceptance

It's funny to compare the PC hockey and Bball fans. I'd say hockey is definitely on stage 4/5. After last nights game vs. depaul, bball fans have unanimously moved onto stage 2.

If I didn't have respect for Father Shanley as a priest I would label him the ULTIMATE "jock sniffer".
Fr. Shanley was chosen because of his ability to schmooze (sp) and fundraise. Fr. Shanley is NOT a leader nor is he a decision maker. He is the opposite of Fr. Cunningham for example.
Fr. Shanely seems to love that Bobby parades him around as "one of the guys" and he attends games (mostly hoop) but he's primarily a fundraiser. That's why Fr. Shanley hasn't ridden Bobby out on a rail and why the current president is fiddling while the athletic department burns.

BTW It was PATHETIC that the Friars lost to DePaul. PC has become the cure that ails teams needing a win. Doormats in both Hockeyeast and the Big East. What a 360 from what these programs USED to be!!!

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Can't help but note the irony of the thread title. This team is certainly "looking up" at the rest of the conference for the 3rd year in a row. lol.

It's funny to compare the PC hockey and Bball fans. I'd say hockey is definitely on stage 4/5.

I think the die-hards who used to post here more regularly, me included, reached Stage 5 a long while ago.

I mean, does anyone here seriously think after 6 seasons that Tim Army is suddenly going to turn this program around -- and by that I'm not talking about a turnaround that simply involves making the Hockey East Quarterfinals. We all know it's not all on him, but his record speaks for itself. Six seasons is more than enough time to show what you can do. He has been a total, unmitigated failure and that's probably being kind.

I've accepted the fact that the Friars are going nowhere until they cleanse this program and quite possibly the athletic department itself and start over. Something tells me the amount of ex-season ticket holders here have done the same.

Harder to think about the downturn when you realize Lou Lamoriello and Dave Gavitt were the first commissioners of their respected Leagues (Big East/Hockey East). I'm sure we get tons of respect at the conference meetings... I can just imagine Drisocoll showing up. "Don't you remember we used to be good and pc basically created the conference!?...cmon guys do I have to sit at the kids table again."

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Jim Donaldson continues to bang the drum, even in his basketball blog. PC should be happy someone is even paying attention...

PC AD Bob Driscoll ought to be more than a bit uncomfortable, as well, considering that the Friars' two priority programs -- basketball and hockey -- once again are near the bottom of the standings with coaches he hired at the helm.

DePaul now has won one more road game this season than the Friars, who are 0-8 on opponents' home courts. PC is 1-1 in games played on a neutral court and is mired in 14th place in the 16-team Big East at 3-10.

Meanwhile, the PC icers, under Tim Army -- who's in his sixth season -- haven't won a conference game since the first week of November. The skating Friars finished last in Hockey East last season, and are in ninth place heading into this weekend's home-and-home series with Boston University, putting them in danger of missing out on the eight-team conference tournament for the third straight season.

So no posts after last nights game or before BU comes to our place...... I guess the season really is over.

Moving on... PC received a commitment from the top goal scorer in New England Prep hockey. Connor Gorman from the New Hampton School will come to PC in 2012. He's 5'10" 170 from Shrewsbury Mass. and plays LW. He'll play next year in EJHL for the NH Jr. Monarchs. In 29 games so far this year he has 35 goals and 59 points. He has great speed & quickness and is known as a tenacious and relentless player. Here's some video of him:

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I know most of you have been going to games for a very long time. What are some old student traditions that have fallen by the wayside? I want to attempt to revive a few of them, because frankly I'm sick of going to a game where there's very little fan support. I know the games used to be really fun and really packed, so does anyone have any suggestions about how to revive the old atmosphere?

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Game is on COX 3 tonite.......I hope you can be a success 13 try a costume night and get some prizes donated, pizza etc

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Haha thanks man. We're doing our best...unfortunately a group of BU fans who sat near the student section tonight wouldn't let us stand (they spoke to security twice who made us sit) and it kinda killed the mood. the student section definitely definitely has to change. it's terrible where it currently is. the same group of fans then got into a verbal argument with a few of my friends...it was really unpleasant.

i used to think UNH had the trashiest fans, but BU just definitely took that crown.
