Preseason poll huh???? You mean the biggest joke of a lifetime..... All I have to say is the BSU will be a top 10 team all year long and in the top 5 WCHA teams along with No Dak, Sconi, SCSU, and Denver.

It's old news but it's still covers the upcoming season and affects the teams future recruiting. Junior may not care about it but his mom and dad do.

Students who bail before the game is over for whatever reason.

Fans who want to fire Umile (why?) at the drop of a hat

Last but not least, the season ticket process that has a lot of my friends turning theirs in.

I'm a Maine \ NH resident and follow both UMaine and UNH and would have anybody but BU and BC win HE so don't think I'm picking on UNH.

IMHO, RIT's fan base, coach's and players put forth the effort every game regardless of their record or even if they are playing like crap during a game. Over the last three years since switching to D1, I've seen RIT improve to the point where I think they will win some of their OOC games and move up in the standings.

Nice day in Portsmouth today, free concert in Prescott Park and breakfast at Ceres' Street bakery. Can't ask for anything more except for the first puck drop.

The majority of your argument centers on the fact that RIT's fans are better than UNH's. The Cats will be fine this year regardless of how many season tickets are sold. They had a solid team last year, winning the Hockey East Regular season and knocking off Cornell in the regionals after starting the season with little expected of them. They graduated Hobey Finalist Bobby Butler, second line center Pete Leblanc and goaltender Brian Foster.
While the incoming recruiting class is far from the best in Hockey East (unrelated to the recruiting sanctions), there are a number of underclassmen who will be able to step up to replace the offensive output of those two, as UNH seems to do each year. I'm excited to see a team play solid team defense, as they return six guys who saw regular shifts last year (showing a ton of improvement along the way) including Blake Kessel, the nation's top returning college defenseman.
Digi will undoubtedly have some rocky games in October as UNH starts out with a tough schedule, but he'll be fine in the long run, and if not, there are two other capable guys to help shoulder the load.

Um....are you serious????????????

I'm going to go with no. Are you basing that on points, or.... what exactly? If you would edit this statement to say "one of the nation's top returning defensemen," I might believe you.

Based on the fact that he's the only 09-10 all american defenseman returning and lead all returning defensemen in points. They are obviously others that belong in the discussion (Warsofsky and Genoway come to mine), but we are in the dog days and needed a good lively debate ;).

Kessel the best defenseman in the country next year? You've gotta be kidding. He's not even the best in his own conference.

Let's be brutally honest here. Any team that draws UNH coached by Dick Umile in the NCAAs is "lucky" to quite a high degree.

I hate to burst your bubble as you're one of my favorites on the board, but ... Dumoulin is better. Kessel is good and definitely gifted offensively, but if we're looking at two-way defensemen, I'd consider Genoway and Dumoulin already better. Warsofsky is also a guy I'd take over Kessel (keep an eye on Tommy Cross as well). In other words, I don't Kessel is the best in the country and there are plenty of others in the mix as good as/better than Kessel.

We all know the points are sexy when talking about defensemen and that's what gets you on AA teams (AA stands for "all the attention"?). But it doesn't get the job done on both ends of the ice. Wasn't Colby Cohen an AA too?

Actually if you read the title I think you might find it to say "preseason" poll, meaning not where they end up but where they start.

It's a tough argument to make or refute, as plus/minus and other defensive stats are not as easily accessible in NCAA. Kessel stands out on points and all star teams. I've seen every game he's played for UNH, and he's solid in his own zone, physical and a great puck mover. It's not as cut and dry as I initially made it sound (I admittedly wanted to ruffle some feathers) and there are a bunch of good defensemen around. Kessel, Warsofsky and Dumoulin all definitely belong in the discussion. Genoway has always impressed, but will be interesting to see how quickly he's able to shake off the rust from missing most of last year. Gardiner and Wideman are two other guys that come to mind.

If Genoway's healthy, he's the top returning d-man no questions asked. Those three HE guys (Kessel, Warsofsky, Dumoulin) might very well be the three battling for the second spot. They're all very good in their own zone (not sure where this "Kessel isn't a good two-way defender" nonsense is coming from). I think Kessel and Warsofsky are better offensively, though, so I'd give them the slight edge over Dumoulin. It'll be interesting to see if Dumoulin jumps up more this season. He should have more chances to.
