POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

The problem with his post is it ignores the very fact witnesses have appeared in the Senate portion of every impeachment in our history. Impeachment may be a political process, but it was one with precedent. And much, much more:

HAKEEM JEFFRIES HIGHLIGHTS KEY FACT ABOUT EVERY SENATE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL IN HISTORY: 'ALL HAVE INCLUDED WITNESSES'

The Clinton impeachment trial required witnesses to first be deposed by lawyers behind closed doors for several days. (The Clinton impeachment also allowed one senator from each side to be present.) So the Senate trial could break for a few days. The Senate would then reconvene and vote on which witnesses, if any, to have testify live. Or they could decide to air videotaped depositions. Or they could make the transcripts of the depositions available to senators.

Key Capitol Hill players in the Bill Clinton impeachment are taking a decidedly different view about the Donald Trump impeachment when it comes to witnesses in a Senate trial.

The two previous presidential impeachment trials in U.S. history included witnesses in some form.

The Senate impeachment trial of President Andrew Johnson in 1868 included live witness testimony, and the Senate trial of President Bill Clinton in 1999 included video-recorded depositions shown to senators, the trial’s jurors.

If barring witnesses is not out of order whey did McConnell find it necessary to create a rule forbidding them?

VI. The Senate shall have power to compel the attendance of witnesses, to enforce
obedience to its orders, mandates, writs, precepts, and judgments, to preserve order, and to
punish in a summary way contempts of and disobedience to its authority, orders, mandates,
writs, precepts, or judgments, and to make all lawful orders, rules and regulations, which it may
deem essential or conducive to the ends of justice. And the Sergeant-at-arms, under the direction
the Senate, may employ such aid and assistance as may be necessary to enforce, executive, and
carry into effect the lawful orders, mandates, writs, and precepts of the Senate.
XVI. Witnesses shall be examined by one person on behalf of the party producing them,
and then cross-examined by one person on the other side.
XVII. If a senator is called as a witness he shall be sworn and give his testimony standing

don't social through taxes. tax those who can pay it without blinking a friggin eye like rover. and let the schmo spend their money and keep the economy plugging along and die broke.

certainly NOT rocket science.

But we're not ALLOWED to tax those who can pay it without blinking an eye.

They're the "jawbs creators!!!"

Taxing them is The Socialism!!

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

The prayers offered at the beginning of the last couple of sessions seem to be calling out the Senators to be moral and have integrity. Today was even more direct than yesterday and yesterday was pretty blatant

Sure mookie. Pick your poison. I'll give you one example:

"Medicare should be extended from age 50 onwards. That's when people could really use it because layoffs happen a lot between this age and 65. I propose doing this and paying for it with an extra tax surcharge on anyone making over 1M a year."

So, what have I done here? First, I'm pitting the GOP voters against GOP donors. Older Americans are more likely to vote GOP. This policy would benefit them directly (amongst others) at the expense of millionaires. Let them tear each other apart over this. Next, instead of debating arcane tax policy and what income qualifies, I'm using a nice, shiny, whole number that everyone recognizes. One million bucks. Many people think they're in the top tax bracket because they don't understand it. Few people who aren't making 1M a year think that they are. Maybe the people in the 950-999K bracket have a right to be concerned but you can't please everyone. ;)

Follow the same rules for anything else. Stop screwing around with brackets and start talking actual dollars.
This is why you’re dumb River: You’re thinking too much. Keep It Simple S-head.

“Why’d my take home go up?” “We forced your bosses to give you a raise.”
“Why my take home go down?” “Your bosses care more about shareholders than you.”
“Who are the shareholders?” “Your boss’ wealthy friends.”
“Why don’t I have a paycheck?” “Your boss shipped your job off to (insert country) to make more money.”

Keep the message simple. Find one thing and keep hammering it home. And then hammer it some more.

Per Investopedia, 17.6% of Americans have a Roth IRA, and 11% have a Roth 401(k). Blue collared workers don't have them, people like you, Rover and Kepler have them. They're a non-starter in any debate unless it's between you, Kepler and Rover.
This.

It’s about the paycheck and take home. That’s all that matters.

Again, you are daintily beating around the bush of implying that the "right" thing for Senators to do would be to vote the desires of their constituents. Polling suggests that they are ignoring their constituents when it comes to calling witnesses. So you're still coming down on the wrong side of your own position in order to defend them.

Also, does he think his senators should have all available evidence and facts before making that vote, or should they just vote the way they(or the party) want them to, regardless.

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

Murkowski says no to witnesses.

That sloshing sound you hear is her spine returning to liquid form.

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

Lisa doesn’t need to hear witnesses! Hopefully she’s sent out to pasture soon

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

I’m up 25% in the last 12 months. 6-figure gains and I’m not voting for Trump. It’s funny the MAGAs without retirement savings point at the stock market as a reason to re-elect him.

Wait, Lotto tickets aren't a successful retirement plan?

Re: POTUS: It Can Happen Here Again

If I'm a Dem candidate with 5% or less in polling, I see a green light to throw a hail mary and offer my services, publicly, to foreign nations.

"China, if you're listening, I'll make every tariff disappear if I'm elected, but only if you can get information on Elaine Chao's family business..."

Nope, only the President is allowed to do that. And only if he has an R after his name.

Who is "River"? River Phoenix? I think he's dead.
