POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

I have...want to acknowledge what I said or are you just going to ignore it and pretend it isnt true?

I have read their criticism and it seems very politically motivated to me. He actually agrees with them as far as breaking up NSA and Cyber Command.

I may have told this story before, but Dr. Mrs. and I took a cab from McCarran to the Strip in which the cabbie:

1) Never signaled
2) Never dropped below 80 on the highway or 55 on the surface streets despite heavy traffic and pedestrians

Who the heck a lets a cab take them onto the highway if they are staying on the strip?!?

I wasn't going to say it...but if the cabbie takes the freeway in Vegas, you're getting burnt.

First time I went there at 21, I got longhauled that way. Kid mistake. Never happened again in any city.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

There hasn't been a day since 11/9 where I have woken up and said to myself, "I actually can't believe we elected Donald Trump."

This is perhaps the most dangerous aspect of a trump presidency. The most important aspect of a president's job. Without intelligence briefings combined with his apathy, we might not have a commander in chief.

Greatly impactful decisions will be made without care or information. If we don't have a major international incident or constitutional crisis over the next four years, it's going to be a miracle.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Pence is running the show.

The more I read about the President-elect, the more it represents the caricature we all painted W and Cheney with: "The dumb puppet President having his strings pulled/arm jammed up the a** by the silent, but much dastardly, Vice-President."

Yep, the minute you go through that short tunnel/underpass, you know you're getting long-hauled.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

If you're staying on or near the strip, any free airport shuttle from McCarran to the strip for the win. Then, worst case take the monorail from said hotel to where you need to go.

Trump wants to run the business side of the job while Pence runs the social and day-to-day aspects. Then Pres. Elect Trump was informed that the president handles the economy, not just "the business," and then he replied, "Not in my administration."

All of this is from very deep, inside and trusted sources. They're the best sources. They're Yuuge.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Reminds me of The Sum of All Fears and how the people didn't care much about the scenarios they'd run and people not showing up. Suddenly something happens and they panic.

Just in a significantly less sexiest way.

Bill Kristol interview with William Gallston (it's long)

The transcript

Good Quote:
GALSTON: That is a question I’ve looked at in some detail. And NAFTA gets a bum rap. NAFTA was basically a wash, I believe. And very good studies from the Congressional Research Service, which doesn’t have a dog in that or any other hunt, push in that direction.

The real disaster for the white working class began with China’s accession to the WTO. In the seven years between China’s accession to the WTO and the beginning of the Great Recession, we lost fully 20 percent of our U.S. manufacturing jobs. That was the period after the shallow recession of 2000–2001. This period, basically the period of the Bush Administration up to, of course, the beginning of 2008, when things weren’t going great but they weren’t going that badly either – there was growth, and manufacturing output wasn’t bad.

But Chinese imports really undermined communities throughout the South and the Midwest. Textile factories had already begun to close decades earlier, but now we were talking about the mainstays, like furniture in North Carolina, they just collapsed under the onslaught of cheap Chinese imports. And we did not respond. Our response mechanisms for people displaced by trade and technological change have always been woefully inadequate by global standards and, certainly, by Western democratic standards.

I know something very specific about this just because of people I know. In this case, the Erdős Number was 1.

In a conversation with a briefer, Trump said the following direct quote. "If you can't give me what I need to know in five minutes you are not doing a good job and I will find someone else."

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

China may have cost us jobs over the last 20 years, but the tasks* for those jobs are being brought back due to regionalization coupled with rising labor costs and increased environmental protections in Asia and particularly in China.

I've sat in on meetings with management where all three of those were key points of discussion on why we're repatriating that manufacturing base.

*I really can't stress it enough, that while those tasks are being brought back, the labor to make them is not. While a crew of operators would be required to run a single tape line in the past, a single operator may run multiple tape lines now.

"If you can't give me what I need to know in five minutes you are not doing a good job and I will find someone else."

Mother of God. It's worse than I thought. Far, far worse. It's not that he doesn't care about running that or that he's incurious, both terrible qualities, it's that he doesn't understand the complexity of the job. Not that this at all surprising, I just didn't know how poor his understand of the job is...

Can you explain what a tape line is please?

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Basically it's a giant machine used to make things like masking tape. Think of it as a newspaper printer but for tape and many of the other adhesive-backed strips you see. The way we make tape is really cool. Really cool. Unfortunately, there's a hell of a lot of IP involved so I can't really post a picture or even describe it in many cases.

I am concerned. Dr. Mrs. is very concerned.

One good thing is that the politicals he is choosing don't really matter very much -- they're hood ornaments. The secretaries don't typically really know anything. Obama's secretary for DHS Jeh Johnson is a know-nothing who got the job because he was an effective bundler and a yes man, yet DHS continues to function fine because all the real work and decisions are done by the career staffers. The same is basically true of every department with the possible exception of State and Defense, but even in those latter cases even though the Sec is important the organizations are such behemoths that it takes an enormous bureaucracy to run them and 99% of the work is done by dedicated, experienced, intelligent people who have never made a headline. Like referees, the better they do their job the less news they generate.

It's going to be a rough four years and probably a good decade before we can recover. It took eight hard years of work to repair our international image after Bush. Trump is going to take 2x per year he's in office. It could even be exponential. The thing I'm most worried about is that he's going to set us back just enough to allow another nation to become the superpower both militarily and economically. From that we may never recover. America has thrived because we are the world's only superpower. We're basically the large, usually benevolent kid on the playground who makes sure the playground stays civil. If you allow countries like Russia or China become that person or let them grow to be that strong, things will start to fall apart.

Trump is going to be so overwhelmed that decisions are being made on timescales of days or even minutes rather than looking at the decades-long impact they might have. Other countries will likely be making decisions that have great benefits to them in the future rather than what's good for them today. One needs to look no further than the Air Force One story to see the 200-proof myopia Trump possesses.

I'm also awfully concerned that he's going to alienate our partners in the world by getting made fun of from a foreign equivalent of John Oliver.

Like referees, the better they do their job the less news they generate.

This is where Al Franken earned my respect. His first one and a half terms he's used this as his guide. Work hard, do the right thing, and stay away from the media.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

On that note, a couple years ago I was assigned to a project borne on the back of Dodd-Frank. It wasn't specifically called out in the law, but the Fed Reserve Bank made an interpretation that we had to better track and predict the value of an account, and its partitions, that is very important to the Fed and my employer. Hundreds of billions in dollars run through it daily between the two entities, and that holds true -- to varying dollar sizes, of course -- for every bank in the nation. Easy enough, we did it in 2014.

Last year we were given a directive to gather more information on the transactions going through that account. This time we're to report to the Fed each and every customer's account number assigned to each and every transaction we process. Again, every bank in the nation will have to do this. Even if you're funding the account with an omnibus transaction, you have to report the underlying transactions of that transaction. Credit card movement, investment account movement, savings, checking, and on and on and on, all of those accounts' transactions are now being reported to the Fed. And we can lose our charter for failure to comply. This portion is done under the name of anti-money laundry laws, originating within the PATRIOT act, because we're now directly feeding the government information to watch for terrorists. All of this goes into the production environment very soon.

Big Brother is closing in on us more and more each and every day. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.

Fourth Amendment: Dead.
