POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

It will be interesting to see just how far a politicized AG and DOJ go to suppress Democratic votes. Obviously they'll let GOP state legs and governors harrass voters, but will they actually step in and positively affect election outcomes? I don't doubt for a moment that Trump sees nothing wrong in that, and I don't see any strong moral stands being taken by, well, any current Republican official. Zappa was right.

It will also be interesting to keep checking in with our righties here. With only a couple exceptions, I see our conservative posters as sincere and believers in basic American values. IINM to a man they begin this journey thinking nothing is wrong. We'll see how long those illusions last. I don't doubt a few of them will grok that a plutocracy with their party name on it is still a plutocracy. Others will find a way to keep justifying whatever happens. It will be a lot like the Cops threads.

A valuable use of your time.

Meanwhile, a federal court struck down an attempt at a recount in Michigan based on the Trump campaign's argument of there being zero evidence of voter fraud last night. A few hours later, Michigan's House passed a strict voter ID law to combat voter fraud.

I am sure it is just a coincidence ;)

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Think Trump will take a look at these tweets and consider withdrawing his pick? Yeah, no.

Some nice ones:

Flynn, who has 106,000 Twitter followers, has used the platform to retweet accusations that Clinton is involved with child sex trafficking and has "secretly waged war” on the Catholic Church, as well as charges that Obama is a “jihadi” who “laundered” money for Muslim terrorists.

...

In the vast majority of instances in the past four months, he was passing along other people’s conspiratorial tweets instead of casting them in his own voice. In one example, he retweeted a post about a Fox News story claiming that the Army had identified Clinton as an “insider threat.” Another time, he reposted a tweet by someone named “Eagle Wings” about an alleged United Nations one-world-government plot called Agenda 21.

...

While not referring specifically to the pizza conspiracy theory, the groups asserted that “General Flynn has repeatedly made Islamophobic statements and peddled anti-Muslim conspiracy theories,” including his much-noted comment early this year that “Fear of Muslims is RATIONAL.” The groups also pointed to a “blatantly anti-Semitic tweet” that Flynn apologized for in July, after he retweeted a post critical of CNN that included the words: “Not anymore, Jews.”

Really disappointed in the lack of "taco trucks on every corner" that was to help usher in the Trump presidency. I'm in the middle Trump heartland for work (rural, low-income, small town Illinois) and craving some tacos.

There isn't even a Taco Bell, nearest one is 16 miles away. The one in this town burnt down years ago and they never rebuilt it.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Suckers.

more than half those making up The Donald's Department of Defense transition team have been executives or lobbyists for such military contractors as Boeing corporation. Overall, according to watchdog group Public Citizen, three-fourths of Trump's transition teams — which are organizing, staffing, and shaping his new government — come from CorporateWorld. Not a single working class populist has been allowed a seat at his power table.

As America's working stiffs know, if you're not at the table, you're on the menu. And now we know what Augustus Trumpus will be serving. Trump's no populist, he's a full-time corporatist.

I don't think you'll see the DOJ be an active suppressor of votes. You certainly are going to see activity at the state level to pass things like voter id laws, and Trump's DOJ won't do anything to restrain or challenge that. But I'm not sure the DOJ under Romney or Kasich or someone like that would either.

As you've noted countless times, we've been a plutocracy for many years, maybe even since the beginning. That didn't change in the past 8 years and it won't change in the next 4. All that can happen is the degree of plutocracy shifts. It will shift right during the next 4 years, and those people stuck in the middle class and lower will drift from party to party in search of someone who will actually look out for their interests.

Trump has a razor thin margin despite what any Tronk* tries to tell you about "mandates": shift 100k votes in three states and he's gone in 2020.

Trump's economics had better come through for the rust belt "blue wall" folks or they'll be playing a little Montgomery Gentry for him.

*Trump wonk == Tronk. It's got a ring to it. :)

This is true and has been true except for the brief time during the unionization of the workforce and the New Deal when we worked (against the right's horrified protestations) to reduce income inequality and as a result created the American middle class and the greatest economic boom in world history.

But something new has now been added. Now we actually have an institutional effort by one political party to use legislation to actively prevent the other party's supporters from voting, organized at the federal level. This has happened at the state level, most infamously the Jim Crow states, and at the local level, most infamously by the city machines. And it has even swung presidential elections, in 1876, 1960, and 2000.

But it's never been formally directed by the incumbent presidential party, and managed by agencies of the Executive Office of the President. Not even that shameless old crook Nixon did that, but it's what we are seeing now.

It doesn't bode well for the immediate future of the Republic.

Corporatist surrounds self with corporate-types.
Academic and community organizer surrounded self with academics and community organizer types.

I'm not sure why this is surprising anyone.

It shouldn't surprise anyone. But his poor dumb hayseeds better hope their red hats are edible, because Trump is waging Total Class War against them.

I have taken a cab in Egypt...that was my Vietnam ;)

I have taken a cab in Vietnam. That was my Dehli.

Oddly, I have an Uncle for whom a Hong Kong cab was his Vietnam. (and he did 3 tours in Vietnam)

He and a buddy were on Hong Kong R&R in the mid 60's and were semi-passed out in the back of a cab late at night when the cab pulled over and stopped. He half-opened his eyes and noticed the streetlight post was painted red. That set off an alarm somewhere in the back of his mind and he sat up in time to see a dozen or so Chinese moving to surround the cab. He jabbed his buddy and and began shouting at the cabbie who was opening his door and starting to get out, only to be yanked back in by said buddy who suddenly produced a combat knife to the cabbie's throat.

It turns out that at the time, Red Chinese insurgents in HK paid a bounty to cabbies for delivering American servicemen into their commie clutches. Uncle and buddy forced the cabbie to drive out of there and they escaped, but my Uncle always said it was as scared as he ever was over seas. And he was a heavily decorated Recon Marine who was in the forefront of a ton of very nasty fights in country.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Here's my adult-onset ADD chirping in, so there's the up front apology.

Has anyone ever put together a map comparing terrestrial radio station format versus voting patterns (meaning the classic red/blue US map)?

Let me explain. Eliminate NPR/public radio stations. They're everywhere, baseline, so won't uncover much. (OK, I assume ... )

Let's just go private commercial terrestrial. Those stations play to the local listener demographics.

You'd probably have to "normalize" -- number of stations of a format per population.

Formats of interest? Well, country, talk, pop, hip-hop, non-English language, religious (non-denominational), maybe oldies.

I posit that you'll find higher Trump voting in regions with more country stations. (Yeah, I'm really taking a leap there.)

So, those of you still in college looking for that thesis or dissertation topic in poli-sci, you can thank me later. :D

Started with an explosion in the restroom? :D

Re: POTUS Elect Trump I: Get in pu$$y - we're gonna make American great again

Who could've thought that the billionaire businessman wasn't the friend of the blue collar, savior of the working man that he portrayed himself to be?

I'm just dumbfounded.

But at least we'll have filthy water and air, and a fracking operation in every town, so we got that going for us. Think of the jahbs!!!!

It's almost as if he just took the suckers for a ride.

Well, at least the GOP will be relieved. He's one of them after all. :)
