Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

Why is Minneapolis (425,000) so much more liberal than say Wichita (389,000) or Omaha (468,000)? Those cities could theoretically save their states too.

The Thor effect. Scandinavians tend to be liberal, partly because they were among the last European pagan holdouts against the Christian Church.

Pagans rule.

Because the entire metro area of the twin cities is several million, while Omaha is 750k and Wichita is about 500k?

This is my favorite explanation.

so Doug Jones is voting to convict. Politically speaking, he's a dead man walking anyway so he might as well vote his conscience. Will Manchin try to save his *** back home and break from the party?

Can’t speak for anywhere else but I know Anchorage, which is in a similar situation, tends to be skewed a bit by the oil industry presence. Plenty of highly educated folks, they just tend to be conservative because they’re oil field engineers. Also the military presence doesn’t help.

My conservative friends: "Unlike you snowflakes, I'm not so easily triggered."

The same conservatives: Nancy Pelosi breathes, and "I'M ANGRY!"

I'd like to see their reaction when who's that guy (because he basically never did anything else in his career or life) yelled "you lie" during Obama's SOTU.

That was ok. The dems though, they’re disrespectful. Just ask drew

So, dumb people leave, and smart people replace them?

Sadly it’s mostly the good ones who leave where I grew up. It’s a mixed bag as far as the people moving in, but there are some seriously smart people who we are lucky to attract.

Did you see the story about the guy in Washington County who collects moths that was in the BDN a couple months ago? Pretty impressive what he has done.

For Maine a lot of natives move elsewhere and a lot of people from away move to Maine. My guess is that would be the reason for the disparity.

Interesting map: percentage of people 25 or older who live in their birth state:

It's either a Satisfaction Map or a Lack of Imagination Map. :)

Of my 10 closest friends from high school, 3 still live in NY. The rest are in CA, AK, VA, MD, and Europe.

is this correct?

mookie thought the rust belt suffered from brain drain. but here it appears 60-74% of the offspring remain (unless we infer that 26-40% are smart, and the rest 'tards)

Looks more like these are the people who are stuck living there.

Courageous Susie was whining that she had no choice to vote not guilty cause the House rushed their case, and didn't wait for witnesses to go through the process of being compelled to testify.
