Will our brave conservative members here have a comment? No?

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

Sure they will.

It was uncivil and disrespectful. Just one more example of the unhinged anger on the Left.

Fox is going bonkers this morning. I love it when these people talk about the "dignity" of the Presidency after this dipsh-t's last 3 years and their treatment of Obama.

Republicans have no moral or intellectual standing to complain about anything. They have lived by loud stupidity; they can die by just desserts.

Which is why the eye roll and confused look around the room on the gray haired general was hilarious.

You mean John Goodman dressed as a general :D

Edit: re Pelosi’s action: I sure hope the Dems were applauding.

Trump after the speech: It was so good, even the Democrats gave me a standing oviation!

Trump watching the recap on Fox News: God **** it!

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

NPR went to Madison County, IA to watch the state of the union with some republican group.

Guess who was outraged about the paper tear?

“That’s morally wrong. We’re Iowans, we’re nice people, we don’t do stuff like that.”

NPR: what did you think when President Trump made fun of the physically disabled reporter?

Group: that was fake news! That was taken out of context.

NPR: well, it’s like a parallel universe. People against the president see him mocking someone with a disability, but you guys don’t see anything.

Group: all they do is judge us and call us names.

Yada yada yada, they really like to talk about deplorable and being called bigots and being judged and REALLY liked talking about how white and Christian is being persecuted now.

Of course, they’re so above name calling one lady called her daughter a left wing nut. Jokingly, but names didn’t seem like such a laughing matter a few moments before.

They’re going to be super pizzed when they see the video of him playing Mozart, chit chatting, and pointing around the room during the national anthem.

Given the choices these people have made politically did you really expect them to be self-aware?

People who lack cognitive ability are lacking all the way down. Dump is the perfect example of this.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

It shocks me how incapable the average politician is of giving an effective answer to a softball question. Two democratic members of the congress were asked by CNN talking heads about whether or not it was helpful of Pelosi to rip up her copy of the president's speech. How hard would it have been for them to quickly list a dozen or more much worse examples of republicans who have been far more discourteous in their public comments. Her moment of frustration (and yes I know it was almost certainly a scripted action for the cameras by Pelosi) pales in comparison to a republican pol who suggests socialists should be shot or that Mexicans are rapists and that is how they needed to frame their response. trump has said something far more divisive and discourteous every single day of his presidency. Don't LET the CNNs of the world frame this as another "both sides are bad" or another "whataboutism." Neither the Senator or the member of the House they had on in the first half of the 7:00 hour had an effective, quick acting answer to that. did they not know they would be asked? I did not watch a minute of the speech but just spending 10 minutes on this forum I knew that was going to be one of the themes of the day.

Jeezuz you have an Iowan who is purportedly hating on Buttigieg because he married another dude. There is no way in Hell an Iowa republican is going to be an open minded, reasonable person. They are just like every other republican out there, hopelessly hypocritical.

Do I count as part of that group? I didn’t watch, but from what I read the whole night seemed gimmicky and unprofessional from both sides. I’m going to vote dem in November against Trump but really hope we get a new party at some point.

More both sides are bad bull5h!t? What a shock. Please list some or all of the things the democrats did -- other than Pelosi ripping up the speech because that was probably a gimmick and not a spontaneous response on her part -- that were unprofessional or gimmicky? And before you go to the women dressed in white, I don't buy that as a gimmick either. It was done as it has been done before to call attention to women standing together to protest trump and other republican's dismissal of women's rights. A protest is a treasured act of free speech and not a gimmick.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

A Democrat in Iowa, no less. That’s what blew my mind. And she said it on camera. Without pause.

I'm glad to hear our flyovers were appalled too. For a moment I was thinking, "Jesus, I really am out of touch. Iowa is still in 1955."

So that was insane even by your guys' day to day experience, right? I mean, not insane when it comes to Republicans, but insane when it comes to human beings with minds and souls?

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

Bob spat on Dan after Dan killed Bob's family so they're both impolite.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

After the handshake snub and the "Four More Years!" chants, I don't really have a problem with her ripping up the speech. It just isn't quite what I expected her to do.

#NancytheRipper :D

I think if you believe that persons who are prejudiced against people of a different race, against gays, lesbians and transgenders, against people of a different creed, are limited to those people who vote for Republican candidates, you are out of touch.

Keep in mind, I live in the most liberal parts of the most liberal Midwest state. With that in mind...

Most of my conservative friends at an absolute minimum don’t care if someone is gay. Most think they should be able to get married. At least a plurality are opposed to gay marriage bans.

I honestly can only think of one, maybe two who are opposed. A few of the in-laws (extended extended family) are opposed, but they’re insane and we don’t talk to them often.

Being anti-gay is essentially only a symptom of being Baptist, super-Catholic, or any of the other deeply evangelical denominations. I’d be willing to bet the vast majority live south and west of Virginia and East of Kansas; or somewhere between Montana and the Dakotas.

No, you're right. As is much of rural America. Redneck Iowa is much the same as redneck Maine, or redneck Pennsylvania.

But we have to respect their views, and hold them every bit as valid as anyone else's.
