They are related.
The court decision to force the Hammonds to serve the 5-year mandatory minimum was the catalyst to the Bundy-led takeover of the Malheur NWR in SE Oregon near the Hammonds' ranch.
The Bundy father is the Nevada rancher whose illegally grazing of cattle on federal lands led to a prior standoff in 2014.

Judge trolls Manafort.

Manafort has been trying to get his trial delayed, probably cause he knows he'll be found guilty, and one of his arguments was that because he was jailed so far away from his attorneys, he couldn't adequately review evidence and prepare properly for his defense. So judge ordered him to be moved to a facility closer to DC. This, despite Mueller offering up that

Among the unique privileges Manafort enjoys at the jail are a private, self-contained living unit, which is larger than other inmates' units, his own bathroom and shower facility, his own personal telephone, and his own workspace to prepare for trial," a footnote in the filing reads. "Manafort is also not required to wear a prison uniform. On the monitored prison phone calls, Manafort has mentioned that he is being treated like a 'VIP.

Once the order to be moved came down, suddenly Manafort's attorneys turned around and argued that he needed to stay where he was for his personal safety. But the judge was having none of that, and issued this statement.

After Ellis' transfer order, Manafort's lawyers asked him to be allowed to stay in Warsaw, citing concerns about his safety. But Ellis brushed aside those worries in a new order, saying that officials at the federal lockup in Alexandria have experience handling inmates such as "foreign and domestic terrorists, spies and traitors."
