POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

Let's put it this way....there's a reason the Sinaloa cartel is beating the Zetas.
Cue up "With A Little Help From My Friends."

MX cannot beat the cartels/illegals trade w/o the US's help.

I've been to aculpoco recently and seen the federales...it's a mess to be sure but a full out deployment is a whole new story.
For the first time ever I'm glad I didn't have kids. The Rs wanna drill the parks ( which my dad grew up hunting in), kill science, bring in the Bible, take away women's rights, tell people who they should marry...I don't wanna explain this to a kid. No way. Guns mean more than a human life to most of these cretins and I can't explain that

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

Oh yeah. Much easier to get your hands on the base materials in Mexico these days, than in Indiana. The meth states all track sales of stuff like pseudo-ephedrine cold pills to people's government IDs now, and you get flagged for further investigation if you buy too much in a month.

Easier to transport, too. Smaller quantities for more profit. That's part of the reason cocaine exploded in the 70s and 80s. The Netflix series Narcos was a very glorified (mostly fictional) story, but had a lot of truth in it. There's an Univision series much closer to the truth of the story.

For me that was election nigh. That night I was in a bad place and posted something similar.

I’ve always dreamed of settling down and starting a family. But for the first time in my life, I’m glad I don’t have a family and I’m especially glad I don’t have a daughter. The questions would be unbearably difficult to answer.

How do I wake up tomorrow and explain to her what happened last night when she asks? That America doesn’t value you because you’re not a man. That you still can’t be president because you’re not a man.

Beyond that, how would I tell my children that America doesn’t value diversity? What would I tell my child if they were a member of the LGBT community? That America doesn’t value you unless you’re a heterosexual, white, Christian, male? We rend our garments and gnash our teeth over Sharia Law but let Christian fundamentalists run amok in our government.

Racism has won. Xenophobia has won. Sexism and misogyny have won. Fundamentalism has won. Lies have won. A man who ran a scam university won. A man that doesn’t pay his contracts won. A man who doesn’t understand NAFTA or the implications won. A man who judges you based upon your looks won. A man who only cares what you have to say if you have a *****.

This isn’t a rebuke of Washington. The incumbents would have had widespread losses if it was. They haven’t. I might have accepted this result if it were the case. But no, this is an embrace of racism and sexism. An embrace of the qualities we've worked for decades to eliminate.

Welcome to an America where you can’t dream anymore. Welcome to an America where a bunch of white men in ridiculous red hats tell you what to believe. Welcome to an America where we test you based on your religion. Welcome to an America where we objectify you if you’re a woman. Welcome to an America where you are probably guilty because you’re walking while black.

I’m glad I don’t have a family. How could I explain to my child that for the first time in my life, I don’t believe in what America represents anymore?

I can think of plenty of easy ways to explain it to kids, but they're pretty smug and intolerant explanations that involve using trigger language like "flyover state", "religious nut", and "hick". Good thing I have no kids in my immediate future, so there is plenty of time for me to figure out how to soften my language. ;)

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

While DX's post was well thought out, and very much a valid point, and I agree with much of it...

I have a son. Just turned 2. When I have a chance, IF I have a chance, I'll explain to him that sometimes, you need to speak your mind, no matter how unpopular your view is. And if that moment were tomorrow, this is one of those times. Stand against the extremists coming from both sides. Find your values, your conscience, and act accordingly. Don't let the right/left extremists form your thoughts. Make up your own mind after listening to everyone.

Adjust your mindset as time goes on. But above all, be true to yourself. Show compassion, show empathy, show sympathy. Try to understand mankind. Refrain from judging. It's okay to disagree and still discuss. Keep progress going.

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

I've yet to have the conversation with my daughter. Not sure how I'll explain it when it comes up.

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

I just explained that the other lady had some emails or something, and really dumb people learned how to parrot words like empathy and compassion without having the slightest clue as to what it means, or any interest in practicing it.

Sorta. Boots on the ground, yes. Attack....that language is gray. I am against attack, for obvious reasons. Assist and enforce anti-illegal immigration and anti-cartel operations? I'm all for.

But arent you against military intervention elsewhere? How can you justify us doing it in Mexico but not in places where it isnt just a gang war on steroids?

But can Forrest Gump still get a gun?

I'm not against military intervention elsewhere.

I HAVE said in the past, given the way this country is going, go all out or none at all, if that is what you're thinking of. If we continue to pick and choose, then I think MX is a good choose, in this scenario.

Re: POTUS 45.2 - Same arguments, different sides

Well This Should Go Well

Normally I would say no President is this dumb but...well...

It hasnt even been a month yet and this guy is writing new laws like Roger Corman writes movies!

Why...it literally does nothing for us and will do nothing to stop the drug trade. Oh and it will put us at risk of retaliation...

Think about the waste of resources, and the waste of life and I guarantee a year after we "win" things wont be any different.

Between this and the Wall how much are we going to waste dealing with Mexico?

This is a very touchy subject, to be sure. Yeah, I know, Dr Obvious.

We have to allow religious freedoms in this country. However, if those allowances discriminate against another religion, then nope. It's against the law. Where the heck do you draw the line? I can't even imagine where to start this discussion without causing a shout-fest and hatred. I really can't.

How the heck are we currently stopping someone's religious freedom in this country? Nobody is stopping anybody from going to a church or saying a prayer in a personal capacity. Is allowing gay people in public some form discrimination?

Agreed. Which is why no sane person would actually implement something like this.

Look I would never force someone to like having Gays or Trans work for them but if you fire someone because of it based on religious grounds you are begging for trouble because it is the very definition of discrimination. Put it this way it would be the ultimate Litmus Test for the new Justice because it is hard to be a "strict constitutionalist" and then go against one of the most important rights in said document. You dont have to like them, but you will treat them equally or you will pay the price. (unless he is full of crap in which case they will probably be deported)

Half of Trump's fellow GOPers are probably texting each other saying "doesnt this guy know he is killing our fundraising"? He is going against the "look busy and do nothing" philosophy ;)

Old school Catholicism says being gay is wrong. So there's that part of that religion.
But discriminating against gays is wrong, so says a multitude of other religions.
Islam requires the burkas (sp?) for women.
Many places ban those for OSHA/work safety sake.
Can't do that, it's a religious freedom.

That sorta thing.

The US is trying to please everyone, and we all know how that goes. Hey, wish we COULD make everyone happy. But we can't.
