You're absolutely right, and it's something I've thought about. The trouble is do I then have to file a Maine tax return? It wouldn't really cost me much more if anything in taxes, but is more complexity than I need. It's hard to mix and match.

Maine might make you file a non-resident or part-year resident return, but only for income earned "in" Maine. I had to do the non-resident filing for the 4 days I worked in Portland last year. So if you work from your home in Maine part of the time, you'd have to report that to your employer so they can make the appropriate payroll deductions, and you'd be subject to Maine income taxes for the portion of the time you worked there.

Otherwise, if you're working all of your hours in Massachusetts, then you should only owe Maine the property taxes that I assume you're already paying. But as uno said, they might have a residency requirement for you to remain registered to vote there.

Ha, I said up front I didn't think people would agree with it. It's irritating in Maine that you have people from away deciding Maine's future. That is the reason I feel that way.

If you want to decide Maine's future, then maybe you should have stayed there.

Otherwise, that decision is up to the people who actually choose to live there. No matter where they originally hailed from.

MN always goes blue, so Slappy taking the time to mail in his vote for Hillary from overseas didn't matter. :p

I don't live in my home state anymore and haven't voted in 10+ years. I don't think people should be allowed to vote in any state but the one they are from. I don't expect anyone to agree with me.
Bold prediction, ludicrously asinine comments normally fly under the radar unremarked upon around here.

The more elections I see, the less I think of a reading test as bad policy.
Well, now we have the Primer President- speaking at a 1st grade level if you are being generous. What level of reading do you think?

Paul Ryan defending the press saying the leakers are the problem not the press.

The wheels on the bus go round and round until they fall off.

Stock market gains benefit the wealthy, not the poor, but they do affect the average Joe as well. It's also true that business will respond favorably to some steps that are harmful to us all in the long run, such as removing important environmental regulations. But does Trump deserve some credit for the market we are in?
