POTUS 45.09: How do I hate thee? Let me count the posts.

Re: POTUS 45.09: How do I hate thee? Let me count the posts.

An impressive bit of ratf-ckery even by Trump standards.

Members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus wrote in a letter to Department of Homeland Security Sec. John Kelly that the Trump administration’s decision to put an anti-immigrant leader in a top position within the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is “offensive, insensitive and malicious.” As ombudsman, Julie Kirchner, the former executive director of a Southern Poverty Law Center designated anti-immigrant hate group, would be tasked with assisting immigrants encountering problems within USCIS.

tl; dr: They put a white supremacist in the agency that helps immigrants who have issues with the INS. What could go wrong?

Sookie looks like she wants to be anywhere but at the Press Briefing talking about Pee King's tweets. :)

The D's would be best served, if they recapture the House, of putting forth a series of modest moderate legislative proposals that will recapture the heart and soul of middle America.

Sounds scarily similar to what the righties were telling us what good Democrats should do after Obama got elected.

"Oh, better to just move on rather than attempt to prosecute those among the banksters who gambled with other people's money and just about destroyed the entire global economy. Nothing to be gained by doing that, it just shows how mean and vindictive your party is. Forget about it, it's past history now."

Why are Democrats always expected to forget about and move on from criminal actions done by Republicans?

Trump has his lawyer release a letter saying he has no connections to Russia "with few exceptions", which is now trending on Twitter. Also, the law firm was named as the 2016 "Russia Law Firm of the year." You can't make this up.

I heard on the radio it was "no income from Russian sources, except for some exceptions."

Wow, that's really absolving him. "Trump has no income from Russian sources, except for the ones he does".

Did they really expect Trump to pick anyone else? He always picks the WORST people for any job. Look at his Cabinet.

You're assuming that Trumpy wants these agencies to be effective in their tasks.

No. I know he wants to destroy them. That's also what his voters wanted. The systemic destruction of our government institutions is happening right now.

Honestly, I don't think Trump himself is connected directly to the Russian government. I do think it's likely, with all the bankruptcies in his past, that he's been forced to take out loans with shady banks to pay for his real estate schemes. That would certainly call his character into question (amongst about a million other reasons ), but it wouldn't necessarily be treasonous or criminal. There would have to be ties within those financial relationships that lead back to quid pro quo deals between him and the Russian government, OR he'd have to be knowingly helping the Russian mob launder money through his businesses. The latter of the two is more likely, but I highly doubt either one is the case, unless he's got someone employed by the Trump Organization who is running that stuff. Trump himself is too stupid and loudmouthed to orchestrate that sort of a fraud.

I do think that he's concerned that Flynn and others are definitely dirty, and that the continued investigation makes him look dirty to a majority of the public. It's all about image for The Donald - continually puffing up the illusion that he's a billionaire genius, and not an impulsive buffoon with multiple major bankruptcies, and half his alleged net worth actually tied up in high-interest foreign junk debt that may (or may not) be mob money.

At any rate, most of Congress is cowering now.

To be fair I have committed no murders other than the ones I have.

This whole post is great. I agree with you. Trump himself seems to be an imbecile. He isn't orchestrating any sort of deep treasonous plot because he's too dumb to tie his own shoes. But perhaps in part because Trump is so inept and infantile he exercises no control over his organization which means any corruption runs wild inside it. Add to this that Trump has no apparent morality, let alone a moral compass, and it's entirely possible he "knows" about illegal stuff going on in his organization and simply doesn't realize or care that it's illegal.

This is like a Skinner box experiment in raising a human being with absolutely no accountability. He has lived for 70 years with no feedback mechanism to check any whim. As a result, he's a delusional overgrown infant.

Rather than imprison him we should just run scientific experiments on him. We could learn a lot about how character develops by looking at a control case with literally none.

Still my favorite Colbert bit on Trump was when he shook his keys at the camera to entice him like a rattle would a baby. Dammit if I can't find it though.

Because they have no spine, I think.

No, you miss my point. Republicans will attack and badger a Democrat for every tiny little mis-step, real or imagined. They ramp up their cyclone of outrage until everybody thinks this is the worst crime in the history of humanity.

But when Democrats are in charge, are they expected to hold the same level of scrutiny and accountability to the actions of Republicans? No. That stuff's all in the past, we can't keep harping on it, we have to move on so we can heal as a nation. Dwelling on such things does no one any good, it keeps government from functioning, hurts the economy and consumer confidence. Forget about it, all in the past, let's look forward.

Every friggin' time.
