Re: POTUS 45.09: How do I hate thee? Let me count the posts.

The problem may be Trump thinks Comey is too "ept." Trump may have thought that based on Comey's part in getting him elected he had a partisan friend who would bury the investigation, but it has seemed more and more that Comey was putting his finger on the scale for the GOP, not Trump.

As the investigation proceeds there will come a day when enough has been exposed that the GOP and Trump are in a Prisoners' Dilemma. Trump just figured out that if that ever happens Comey will side with the GOP rather than him.

This is a fascinating time to be politically aware.

Trump finally figured out Comey, at least from the Trump perspective, is just a loose cannon ... and fired him?

Best part of this Quinnipiac poll

9. What is the first word that comes to mind when you think of Donald Trump? (Numbers are not percentages. Figures show the number of times each response was given. This table reports only words that were mentioned at least five times.)

When the (breaking at taping) news of Comey's dismissal was told by Colbert to his crowd last night they ... cheered. Colbert then accused them of being Trumpists.

Of course that's going to be the spur of the moment reaction to news that the guy who threw the election to Trump was canned. It takes a bit longer for the deeper take away to sink in--Trump just fired the man who is investigating him...***.

Seriously, you do a really poor job of not sounding like a Trumpster.

Re: POTUS 45.09: How do I hate thee? Let me count the posts.

Interesting study on why white, working class voters went for Putin's Cockholster.

TL;DR - they're xenophobes living in the 50s, but there are some interesting stats in there. Here's the biggest one that I'm going to chew on:

Nearly six in ten (59%) white working-class Americans believe immigrants living in the country illegally should be allowed to become citizens provided they meet certain requirements, while 10% say they should be allowed to become permanent legal residents. More than one in four (27%) say we should identify and deport illegal immigrants. Notably, support for a path to citizenship is only slightly lower than support among the general public (63%).

Granted, if you look at the rest of the stats, the expectation is that such immigrants will assimilate their idea of "American culture" like their great-great grandparents did.

Fewer than four in ten white working-class Americans report they are in excellent (5%) or good shape (33%) financially, compared to six in ten who say they are in fair (35%) or poor shape (25%). White working-class Americans about as likely to say their financial situation has diminished (27%) as they are to say it has improved (29%). White college-educated Americans, in contrast, are about three times as likely to say their financial circumstances have gotten better than gotten worse (41% vs. 14%, respectively).

My conclusion - figure out how to get these people decent jobs (i.e. anything higher than minimum wage), and you can win enough of them back.

However, op-ed pieces like this that "analyze" the survey with a white nationalist slant will not help.

Weren't you people whining about Comey just the other day, and then all of a sudden he's your best friend? Wow, partisan politics has gone too far...

I don't know if you're playing Fish (flatly state something you know is disingenuous while vamping as if you are asking an honest question) but the problem isn't firing Comey ipso facto. It's firing Comey:

1. over his lies about Clinton when Trump himself lied 1000 times worse about the same subject, and

2. when it became apparent Comey's investigation of Trump might be genuine and not just a Republican cover up.

Comey himself seems to be playing Hamilton on this: all he cares about is his legacy. So it is going to come down to whether Comey feels he has a better chance of exoneration by keeping quiet or coming clean and blowing the whistle on the Trump Crime Family.

There's nothing I can add to the irony that the day after the Tuesday Night Massacre, Trumps meets with the Russian foreign minister and Henry Kissinger in a meeting from which US press is banned but not Russian press.

It is interesting that as a country we've gone from a point where U.S. Presidents were afraid to fire the FBI director because of what unknowns may be in his files, to a point where the FBI director says he has things in his files, but gets fired anyway.

What is says to me is J. Edgar Hoover is dead and buried in a dress someplace.

Well to be fair what does Trump have to fear of the files? We already know he (allegedly) slept with underaged prostitues, likes to get peed on, has a literal hardon for his own daughter, sexually assaults women (by his own admission) and has the education level of a middle schooler in rural Montana. Add in the fact that he is so inept in business that he bankrupts casinos (multiple times) and what could possibly be in an FBI file that would phase him?

Intelligent people are capable of entertaining two opposing thoughts at the same time.

I used to think it wasn't even that hard, but then I started reading posts from you and the other right-wing pinheads on here...

Maybe if we make it less abstract for you. An airline pilot, flying at 35,000 ft, walks back to the cabin and kills your child. Yes, you want to kill him, but you also want to let him land the plane first, yeah?

FraudDUDE is incapable of such nuance, you should know that by now. He trolls because of who he is.

There's a difference between not liking the guy for whatever reason, and then not liking the way the guy gets fired, and the reasons behind that.

Two different things, not mutually exclusive. As was mentioned, smart people can contemplate more than one thought at a time. You should try it sometime.

Trick question. The Terms of Carriage for most airlines actually let them remove you from the plane in such instances.

Donald Trump 'has been screaming at the television about Russia links investigation', says White House adviser

It comes as US President dismisses FBI director James Comey, who was leading probe into Kremlin collusion

Donald Trump was so frustrated by the ongoing investigation into his administration's links with Russia he would sometimes scream at television when news concerning it came on, according to one of his advisers.

The US President has been growing increasingly enraged at his inability to control the probe exploring allegations of collusion between the Kremlin and his presidential campaign, two advisers told Politico.

According to the unidentified staff members, Mr Trump repeatedly asked aides why the allegations would not disappear and demanded they defend him publicly.

This forum needs a rolling smilie. :D

Re: POTUS 45.09: How do I hate thee? Let me count the posts.

I'm gonna say it here now. Yes, Trump's campaign did collude with the Russians to swing the election his way. But the real thing he fears, what he wants to keep covered up, is the source of and the amount of Russian money that flows into his real estate business, that finances the vast majority of his projects. And that money is Russian mob money. In effect, Donald Trump is laundering money for Russian gangsters.

And that's the dirty little secret that he wants to keep hidden.
