POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

The feeling at the march was wonderful. It was joyful, fun and unifying. I have never been involved without anything even remotely similar, including the '09 inauguration. And even including that, I have never been more proud to be a democratic citizen.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

It's frustrating for me that the media made this a big deal in the first place. It's pretty obvious that the reason Obama had more people at his inaugurations was that there are a lot more democrats in that area. His win in 2008 was historic while we've obviously elected tons of old white guys. The media should stick to important issues and not get sidetracked with nonsense.

The fact that Cheeto Benito is a serial liar with bigly thin skin would seem to be a serious issue.

The story is not the size but that Trump and his spokeman are overtly, repeatedly, spectacularly lying about it. Trump is beyond both truth and shame, and he's president. Please look past the letter after the name. This is a disaster for our country.

Like the press secretary blatantly lying while throwing a temper tantrum? They pulled something straight out of 1984.

I see what Trump did now. The lies are the lead story today instead of the fantastic display of peaceful protest yesterday. Trump won again.

Spicer's little media briefing was horrifying, obviously. I was referring more to what went on Friday. The press tried to make a big deal about crowd size when it wasn't and now here we are.

Yeah, I'm sure Obama being the first Black president with a 75% approval rating versus trumps high 30s had nothing to do with it.

I would say the difference between 2009 and 2017 was visually striking enough that the instant anybody compared those two photos it would go viral. It works particularly well given Trump's bizarre insistence, against all empirical evidence, that he is popular and supported. He isn't. The vast majority of Americans appear to be disgusted with him personally and alarmed by his choices politically. He is historically unpopular, and also seems to be so narcissistic that he quite sincerely does not realize that he is a national embarrassment.

The right seems to be so obsessed with the media's coverage of Trump as a liar that they have no interest in the fact of Trump actually being a liar.

I feel the same way. I have never marched before. I felt very compelled and it felt good to stand up for something I believe in.

I'm glad I did. My mom wanted to march and was thinking about going to Chicago to march with a friend. I told her I was marching because of her. I knew she might not be able to make it and wanted to make sure she was at least represented in spirit if she couldn't be in person.

I found out later in the day she couldn't make it to Chicago and wasn't sure she'd be able to walk long distances or stand for long times so she didn't make it to St. Paul. She was so happy I did it.

It was rewarding and very moving.

scooby might be right. Or it could be that trump is just a historically egotistical maniac.

Either way, this is why today is far more important than yesterday. Every day is more important than the previous. We can't march today and forget about it tomorrow.

Several of the guys from my Sat morning breakfast group (a/k/a The Council of Nicetaseeya) joined the Madison march. Retired businessmen and educators, well educated, all married for 35 years or more, and white. Not among those most likely to be harmed by Trump's policies. They were really looking forward to joining the message. I haven't seen the reports yet, but they anticipated a significant presence from the LGBT community as well.

Heck, it worked in here- after a day of peaceful demonstration, and a spew of lies from the press secretary, two guys in here ranted and raved about a group of women who weren't officially welcome. That's what they're angry about.

Yep. Dominate the news cycle. Did it the whole campaign and he'll keep doing it.

Saint Ronnie at least worked his way through the political system before running for President. Trump went straight from hosting a TV show on NBC and running a brand empire to the Presidency. No one in the media knows how to handle Trump. His campaign was handled as if he was still an entertainer, and the media treated him like it. Gave him extra time. Allowed him to call in to shoot the sh** with them on morning talk shows. Did any of the other nominees try the same game? Why was no one beating Trump at his own game?

And the continued pu**yfooting around on the headlines gets me. At least CNN had the stones to call it like it is:
http://money.cnn.com/2017/01/21/media/sean-spicer-press-secretary-statement/
"White House press secretary attacks media for accurately reporting inauguration crowd"

Just because something happens on twitter means the media needs to give it all sorts of attention? I think that is one of the most disappointing things for me with the direction the media has gone in the last 10 years or so. It definitely extends to sports as well. If I want to see what is happening on twitter I can go have a look for myself.

Trump obviously is a liar and has many other personal failings, but how exactly is that different than Hillary? I think now is a good time to post this article again: http://www.newstatesman.com/world/2016/11/hillary-clinton-deserved-lose

It's hard to say how truly popular or unpopular he is. He obviously isn't popular in the areas where a lot of the media resides, but is that representative of the whole country? I'd guess around 30% of people love him, 30% of people hate him, and everyone else is somewhere in the middle.

The march yesterday was a good thing and I think its wonderful you and others got a lot out of it. In the future they should work to be more inclusive though.

Re: POTUS 45.0: It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.

This has almost nothing to do with twitter being the medium. It has everything to do with a new administration acting like state TV in North Korea.
