Playoff Results 2021

end of 2 still Wisconsin 1 Providence 0
Prov was a different team in the last half of the period . Actually had a number of quality chances. Had 8 SOG in the period.

Wisconsin looks really good playing in the offensive zone. When the Badgers have to play in their own zone this season, they aren't all that impressive. There's a hint of panic in their game.

Have to think if Wisc scores one more they’ll loosen up. Nice job by Providence sort of clogging things up at least defensively. I wonder how TimothyA is doing.

I only saw the second half of the second period so far but it seemed a few times that individual Badgers we’re trying to do too much on their own. Also, anyone else surprised at the level of outright checking the refs have been allowing in the tournament so far? I saw one big check in this game and several good hits in yesterdays Duluth game. I’m talking stuff that would even be called in the WCHA.

To answer Offsides Guy, I think that the refs are human, and most of the more prominent women’s games seen nowadays do allow more contact without allowing checking.....my guess is there’s a little influence there....finally! For contact, not checking!

My keys to the game pretty much nailed it.

Wisc.
Effective play from secondary lines can wear PC out early and make this a blowout.

PC
Providence needs to keep the shots close to give themselves a chance. (This did not happen)

When Mueller was called for checking yesterday, I thought that was a bad penalty for her to take. I know realize that she must have thought her game was being called by the referees in one of the other quarterfinals, because they were likely to let it go.

I'm fine with no-calls on borderline contact. But when I'm sitting here as a casual fan and have to let out an involuntary "Whoa!" because some kid got separated from her skates and fillings, I think those need to be called.

Do we know which conferences refs are from? There was a pretty wide disparity this season, something like 9.5 PIM per game for the high (CHA) and like 6.5 per game for the low (WCHA)

I agree wholeheartedly. The problem is if you let them start really hitting, most of the players just aren’t used to it and don’t skate with their heads up enough to keep themselves out of physical harm.

You can 'work backwards' and figure it out sometimes. The box score for yesterday's Northeastern game lists a pair of WCHA officials. The box score for Duluth vs Colgate has a pair that I get hits of ECAC for one and Hockey East for the other. Today, one CHA and one I'm not sure of.

Badger radio guy mentioned people falling due to soft ice during the first period, and reiterated that point then. He said discussion in Erie was of soft ice.

Reminds me of St. Louis. Bummer. Anyway, I thought Providence's players were just weak on their skates the way they were going down. I was concerned the refs would call a bogus penalty on UW because they were falling so easily.

Providence's goalie was great. I do agree that UW lacks calmness in their D zone that they have had in the past. They should not have been rattled by Providence when they were under attack. I think they stop moving their feet too much. Close the gaps and make them move the puck when they aren't ready.

BC 1 OSU 0 midway thru period 1. Norcroft Slot shot over the goalie shoulder and off the crossbar and in.
