PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team is in need of a good performance on the road tonight.

The Cardinals (10-2-3) take on nationally-ranked Williams College at 7 p.m. in a non-league contest in Williamstown, Mass.

Plattsburgh State is currently 1-2-2 against ranked opponents this season, with three of those games on the road and the lone win coming on neutral ice against Middlebury College in the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout.

"It's been a combination of playing good teams and having it being tough to score because those teams are strong at the goaltender position," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery.

"We haven't beaten a ranked team on the road yet and this will be a real good test for us. Williams is a Top 10 team and they have the advantage of being at home. It's another tough game in what has been a very difficult road schedule for us."

Of the Cardinals' 25 regular-season games this season, 14 are away from the Stafford Ice Arena.

In their five previous games against ranked teams, the Cardinals have scored just a combined eight goals.

"The most important thing is to still keep the puck out of our net," said Emery.

"Offensively, we need to get the puck in deep and get our cycling going. They have a big ice surface which should help us. Hopefully, we will be able to fill the net."

The Cardinals haven't played a game since last Tuesday when they skated to a 9-3 win over Skidmore College at the Stafford Ice Arena.

Junior forward Eric Satim (10-13-23) leads the Cardinals in scoring. Plattsburgh State has six players with 10 points or more and 13 with seven or more.

Freshmen Ryan Williams (6-1-1, 1.52 gaa) and Josh Leis (4-1-2, 1.53 gaa) continue to give the Cardinals solid play in net.

Williams College, meanwhile, is 7-3-1 after dropping a couple of NESCAC games on the road this past weekend to Wesleyan and Trinity.

The Ephs, for the most part, have been stingy on defense as opponents have scored two goals or less in seven of their 11 games.

Senior forward Alex Smigelski (8-4-12) and junior forward Matt Masucci (5-6-11) lead the Ephs in scoring.

Williams' goaltenders are sophomore Ryan Purdy (4-3-1, 2.57 gaa) and senior Marc Pulde (3-0-0, 0.40 gaa).

A road win tonight would be beneficial for the Cardinals, who head back into SUNYAC play this coming weekend at Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday.

The following weekend, Plattsburgh State is at Cortland on Friday and SUNYAC-leading Oswego on Saturday before finishing off a stretch of six road games in a row with a non-conference test at Middlebury on Feb. 2.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

The premise of the article is probably wrong in that Williams will probably not be a nationally ranked team by the time the puck drops tonight since it had a terrible weekend. . .

They still might be...I dont think they should be. But they might still hold on because they got a LOT of points in the last poll.

Amazing - Williams is still in there at # 15 - they really shouldn't be ranked over Colby, which has an 11-game unbeaten streak going . . .

Anybody listening to Ducky on WIRY will have heard him list the standings for:

ECAC-NE
ECAC-W

Anybody notice one he omitted? ;)

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Ian Delong got drilled on an apparent clean check...less than a minute before that Eric Satim limped off the ice...

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

It is unclassy for an arena to play music while a player is down on the ice...in my experience

Yes - that was my reaction too - couldn't believe that someone from Williams didnt have the good sense to hit the mute button on that.
