Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

I consider this sort of a trap game for Plattsburgh traveling all the way to Williamstown, MA for a Monday night game. Very tough for a team to play on Monday night after a 3 hour road trip from Plattsburgh. It is a long season and most of the top D3 teams have a few losses or ties.

But classes are not back in session yet, correct?

If so, who cares that it was a Monday. It's as good as a weekend day.

Williams, especially at home is a classic clutch and grab kind of team.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Hope Satim ok and makes a speedy recovery. Would love to see him back on the ice in time for the Oswego game.

NOTE: I am an Oswego fan, but want to see Oswego's best against Platty's best.

They won't need the encouragement trust me.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Just playing DA here but,

Is the offense struggling more because they are worried about the goaltending. The rebounds this year are not what they were last year, and the team has focused more of getting back and protecting then taking those chances because they knew they had one of the best goaltenders to play at Plattsburgh between the pipes...

I don't think so. How many empty nets have we gone wide on this season? I would be even more worried if Plattsburgh was not getting the scoring chances, but they are. They just can't seem to finish.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Satim will have an MRI hopefully today according to Emery, and is on crutches and "very doubtful for the weekend".............

DeLong had "neck whiplash"

Well losing guys like Riley Hill and Joey Wilson will have that effect.

Wilson was one of the best PSU finishers since Hopkins or Kilcan.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

It's too bad about the injured Satim and Delong, hope they recover soon to keep Plattsburgh in the mix. If not, the Cards need a deeper bench than I think they have this year.

Has anyone else wondered if there has ever been so many ties in the past, on so many teams, than there has been this year. I know Norwich has 3, Plattsburgh 4. The only teams in the USCHO poll that don't have ties are Oswego, Adian and Manhattenville. In fact, this year so far:

Ties League
16 Ecac East
8 Ecac West
8 Ecac Northeast
6 Mascac
19 Miac
7 Mcha
15 Ncha
16 Nescac
8 Sunyac

Is this much more than usual?

Just speaking for the interlock teams but there seems to be a a large group of competitive teams that are capable of beating you or at least obtaining a tie on any given night. With so many teams more or less equal, it not suprising that the ties have been on the rise. I watched Norwich outplay Colby in Maine to some degree and was lucky to tie the game with only 10 seconds left. Colby played a great defensive game and and Norwich couldn't buy a goal that day. I assume the same thing happened to Plattsburgh Monday night at Williams. I know Norwich playes Williams away in a couple of weeks and I anticipate they will give Norwich a very tough game.

Exactly this. As skilled as Clarke and Satim may be, they've always been the type of players who tend to look for that one more pretty pass rather than direct a decent chance toward the net. To elaborate a little, and since the scoring drought is so markedly more present versus quality teams this season, I'll take 8 of Plattsburgh's "biggest" games from last season: 3 versus Oswego, 2 versus Norwich, and 1 apiece against Elmira, Middlebury, and Neumann. Goal-scoring numbers from those games:

Wilson - 6
Farrow - 6
Satim - 3
Clarke - 3

Moreover, Satim didn't score in any of the "big" games that occurred after the break, and Clarke scored only once. I know this has been a bugaboo of mine for a while, but after last night's game I think it's worth repeating once more: no matter how crisp Plattsburgh's cycle, with Wilson gone and Farrow struggling, this team desperately needs players willing and able to take the puck to the net and crash in on rebounds.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Emery prides himself and builds his team around depth. With the loss of Satim, it will be interesting how much depth this team shows they have. Everyone is saying that Farrow and Clarke need to step up, and that might be true...but I've felt all year long that there are three players that need to put up some decent numbers for Platty to be successful. It is now super-imperative that those three guys; Sliasis, Schlueter, and Kudroch really step it up a notch and help this offense succeed more than it has in the past few games...
