Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Congratulations to Williams for hanging in there against one of the top three teams in DIII! Makes me just a little nervous about Tuesday after next. Never Listened to Ducky before. I guess you Plattsburgh fans must know how lucky you are to have such a class act announcing your team's games. I was supremely impressed!

Ducky is a homer (the stations advertisers expect him to be), but he also will "call a spade a spade", if the opposition is carrying the play, he will say so, if they score, he will shout SCORE.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

I consider this sort of a trap game for Plattsburgh traveling all the way to Williamstown, MA for a Monday night game. Very tough for a team to play on Monday night after a 3 hour road trip from Plattsburgh. It is a long season and most of the top D3 teams have a few losses or ties.

Especially "Hells Bells"...*** is wrong with them? I hope we kick their ***.

I thought the same EXACT thing. Especially the bells at the start of the song.

It did look like a clean hit from my vantage point.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Somehow, Williams got out of the game with a tie.

Plattsburgh dominated the game after the first 3 minutes of feeling eachother out. They controlled play and should have scored on 3 opportunities, plus many other quality shots.

Plattsburgh scored quickly after Williams got a goal. I thought that Williams woke Plattsburgh up, but it didn't happen. Plattsburgh still had their chances, but Williams played better in the 2nd and 3rd. They even had chances at scoring at times.
Williams nearly screwed up big time towards the end of OT as Plattsburgh had two highly quality shots in OT. On one play, the Plattsburgh player stole the puck from behind the net from a Williams player and came out front and had a good second untouched in front.

To the Norwich clutcher, I really didn't see much clutching in this game, so it didn't happen this time.

Cards tie, scoring woes continue

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team's offensive woes against quality teams continued Monday night.

The Cardinals and Williams College battled to a 1-all overtime tie in non-conference play.

Cardinals' head coach Bob Emery said his team did everything just about right, except put the puck in the net.

"It's frustrating," he said. "We played hard and we played well. We managed the puck well in our zone, except for the one mistake when they scored, and we played our style of hockey to a tee. We got the puck in deep and got our cycle going.

"But, we don't have a win to show for it."

Plattsburgh State (10-2-4) was kept off the board in the first period, despite a 16-7 advantage in shots on goal.

The Ephs then grabbed a 1-0 lead at 6:08 of the second period on Matt Masucci's goal.

The lead, however, didn't last long when Andrew Willock tied it for the Cardinals shortly after, at the 6:50 mark.

Neither team could score in the third period or overtime.

"The game was allowed to be played like an old NHL game," Emery said. "Our players responded well, despite the atmosphere.

"But, we aren't putting the pucks away. We had plenty of chances tonight with loose pucks in front and open nets. We need to find a way to get the easy goals in tough places."

Plattsburgh State was credited with a 32-26 advantage in shots on goal, with Josh Leis making 25 saves for the Cardinals and Ryan Purdy 31 stops for the Ephs (7-3-2).

"It's good that we're keeping the pucks out of our net and we certainly didn't get outplayed tonight," Emery said.

The Cardinals also had their bench shortened by two players after injuries to forwards Eric Satim and Ian DeLong in the second period. Satim leads the Cardinals in scoring.

"Satim is likely going to be out for a while," Emery said. "We will need to re-evaluate things."

The Cardinals return to State University of New York Athletic Conference play this weekend at Brockport on Friday and Geneseo on Saturday.

Pretty sure the Cards got into town on Sun. Saw the team bus in a motel on the outskirts of town and they were practicing on the ice late morning/early afternoon. Don't think the travel had anything to do w/ it. Cards were much better skaters and skill players but Williams had some BIG guys (#s 9 10 and 11) who were very physical. I figured by the 3d, Williams would be spent and the Cards would just skate by them but it didn't happen. Shots on goal seemed much more lopsided then reported and the game was played almost entirely w/in their attacking zone. I think Emery's quotes were right on. Just didn't get the breaks/bounces. Satim looked very banged up; his face as he was tended to by the medical staff spoke volumes.

If I remember correctly Ducky said they left Monday morning at 8....Im sure had Delong and Satim not been out for the third maybe they could have gassed Williams....but when you're down two forwards, its puts a damper on things against any good team....

I have 2 things to say about this:

One, hopefully this means that DeLong is okay, and will be able to participate next weekend, if not THIS weekend. Ducky made both injuries sound really serious. If we're gonna lose either of these players, I hope we can lose only one.

Two, I think the loss of Satim is going to hurt, and I'm not just saying that because he's the scoring leader. Emery has been asking for a while now for more production from the upperclassmen, and Satim was the single most productive upperclassman. Not just in scoring, but also in playing aggressively, putting some energy into the game, and keeping up the pressure on the other team when his teammates take their feet off the gas pedal. I just hope that somebody (Clarke, maybe?) can step up and make sure this offense doesn't fall flat without Eric. Best of luck to him in his recovery!

If you would had told me Clarke would only have 4 goals in 16 games at the beginning of the season I would have laughed at you. With Satim out Plattsburgh needs Clarkey to return to All-American form. If he was feeling the pressure before, he is really gonna feel it now.

Phil Farrow also needs to pick up his game. Emery had him sit and watch a game vs Williams. Hopefully he steps up down the stretch.

The funny things is, entering the season the big question mark for PSU was goaltending and defense. Fact is the goaltending and defense has been great better than last season stats wise. It is the offense that is down this season.

Should be an interesting final 9 regular season games.

Just playing DA here but,

Is the offense struggling more because they are worried about the goaltending. The rebounds this year are not what they were last year, and the team has focused more of getting back and protecting then taking those chances because they knew they had one of the best goaltenders to play at Plattsburgh between the pipes...

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Plattsburgh is 1-2-3 in games against ranked teams, and while they have given up only 13 goals in those 6 games, they have netted a paltry 9. Now it seems they've lost their best scorer - this can't bode well for the stretch run.

Re: Plattsburgh vs Williams Monday Night!

Hope Satim ok and makes a speedy recovery. Would love to see him back on the ice in time for the Oswego game.

NOTE: I am an Oswego fan, but want to see Oswego's best against Platty's best.
