Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

This is a good observation. However, the problem isn't necessarily that Canton doesn't belong in SUNY, it's that Geneseo may not.

I know a goal (a very long term goal I assume) of President Dahl's is to remove Geneseo's SUNY attachment and become a private institution.

It would make sense as things currently stand with SUNY and Genseo as an institution. I must admit though I hadn't really thought about the athletic implications though.

I've heard the Geneseo going private talk for a number of years now. It certainly wouldn't shock me considering the academic profile of Geneseo for the most part is well ahead of other SUNY comprehensive colleges.

If Geneseo were to go private, the ECAC West would certainly welcome them with open arms. For sports outside of hockey, the Liberty League or the Empire 8 would probably be the next logical fit. I would think Liberty a little bit more considering Skidmore, St. Lawrence, RPI, Clarkson and RIT are all members.

Yes, I agree that the ECAC West would be the logical hockey home for Geneseo. SUNYAC definitely is a nice home for the athletics, but as you said in your initial post academically is where Geneseo wants to do their own thing.

As far as the semi-final on Saturday. Can anyone let me know the ticket situation at Stafford? The only other time I was there it was as a media member so I didn't have to get one. Is it the same as what people were saying for the regular season? (Get there early and stay in line)

FYI I am in no way looking past Potsdam on Wednesday. They have proven to have some talent and to be able to beat us. I just want to be able to hit the ground running if we are fortunate enough to win on Wednesday and know what plan I have to take for Plattsburgh on Saturday.

Thanks - I'll hang up and listen

Tickets will go on sale at 5:30pm Saturday at the rink. over 2000 people saw the Oswego game, I don't believe that anyone was turned away, but I could be wrong. as long as you don't mind waiting in line you should be able to get a seat if you get there early enough. otherwise standing room only....

If you notice on the intro video the school boasts 3 National Titles and the 86-87 Championship poster is on the history wall.

Not men's hockey, but... Congratulation to the Lady Cardinals, who have just wrapped up a 23-0-2 undefeated regular season!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Dude for the third time....do some research Plattsburgh AND Oswego have about a 0.0% of Pool C. Thats another ranked loss and another common opponent loss for Oswego. They better not lose to Plattsburgh again or good bye....

Well only one team needs the Pool C, and saying that both teams are at 0.0% just isn't accurate. Utica dropped a tie this weekend which if combined with the possibility of dropping a game to Hobart in their championship could put in jeopardy a Pool C for them. Over the past few years, the selection committee has shown some favoritism towards SUNYAC teams in regards to Pool C bills.
Plattsburgh's chances for a Pool C would require a lot of higher-ranked teams to have some ill-timed losses, but it is still possible. Oswego's chances would only require a couple high-ranked teams to have some ill-timed losses.

Admittedly, neither team has a great chance anymore, but it's not accurate to say neither team has a chance. After all, the ncaa selection committee was been known to make a couple head-scratcher decisions here and there.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Figures an Oswego fan now trying to flip the switch.....

Hype: Read back through the threads during the off season. It was and is warranted, a very good Oswego team.

Rankings: Rankings normally mean something except when you're Oswego who well yea we won't go there to save face...not shocked they grabbed the #1 seed over a Plattsburgh team that played 11 regular freshman and a top notch forward on defense. ..

Polls: While they mean nothing as far as NCAA seeding, polls ARE an indication of what a group of people think how good a team is. USCHO AND D3HOCKEY #1 EAST.

Pool C: See rankings. A SUNYAC Championship would be nice but A. With that many freshman and B. As good as Oswego "should" have been I (and a lot of others) wouldn't have been shocked to see them NOT win if they dont. As a matter of fact I think I had my precious Birds 3rd in my poll....just saying..

Theres no bashing. In fact IF Oswego doesn't win the SUNYAC I still stand behind its the most dissapointing 4 years in some time for Oswego. I think Plattsburgh has only ever lost the SUNYAC Championship twice? as the #1 seeded team....what would Oswego be up to now? 6 out of the last 8?

Like I said, 14 seniors, the big winning percentage, yadda yadd blah blah blah....to say Oswego doesn't have more pressure on them ..please get your head examined. I know the next few years will be down so maybe this will be just a good way to prepare yourself....

Thats right you picked Oswego in your pre season ranking right here on this board. This is the hype you're talking about. (And you picked your team #3, how odd) Well, I apologize to you advance in we fail to meet your expecatations because obviously they are pretty high.
As far as the team facing pressure, I can't speak to that; I'm not them.
I have been watching Lakers 24/7and these guys look pretty loose. (if you are a recruit and interested in Oswego hockey you should check out the nice job the students are doing with this series) This years team are great examples of student athetes, working hard and having fun. I think they went bowling the last episode. Pressure? One thing I noticed on the Laker locker room wall was the most current SUNYAC standings. No USCHO Poll, D3 Hockey or (sorry) Remys preseason ranking. As a matter of fact, Coach G spoke of reaching these goals: Pathfinder, Reg Season Champ, SUNYAC Champ, NCAAS. (Plattsburgh wasn't mentioned, again sorry) I am certain Coach Emery is having the exact same talk with the Cardinals. So far Oswego has accomplished the first two, with two more to go.
BTW I picked Platty to win 4-3 earlier in the week. That's where you are right homer, I must get my head examined.

Tell me please because I want to know: how does the president of a state university make a statement, decision, whatever about said state university going private? Is he not an employee of the state?

Señor Dahl knows the plan - Geneseo is NOT going anywhere, without the SUNY Central infrastructure it would become just more farm land.

...the Geneseo brand has been carefully cultivated by the school - not by SUNY - to position itself as it wants to be seen - their list of "peer schools" - Colgate, Hamilton, Cornell, University of Rochester, Boston College, New York University, Villanova, SUNY Binghamton is ambitious...they would be short several hundred million - in some cases a billion - dollars short in endowment funds compared to their peer list...the reason for most of their lofty rankings - affordability when compared to private institutions - would be out the window...the skinny endowment would inhibit their ability to offer competitive aid packages to top students... And then there's all those bonds and debt instruments the state backed that it would probably want to be repaid... There's more, but my fingers are really tired... If going private is the plan, it will take a decade of fundraising and financial restructuring to make the transition...

Some good Plattsburgh/Oswego banter on here tonight (past and present). And a good job by WIRY color man Rob Knowles last night recognizing the onliners for their affirmation. I wish Ducky would call the Coach out on this weekly "online experts" nonsense! Getting a little old already!
