Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Can someone tell me how many years Plattsburgh and Norwich have been playing each other in the regular season? I think the fans look forward to the big games like Plattsburgh/Norwich, Middlebury/Norwich, and Plattsburgh/Oswego. The question is why would either team want to break up the games unless one of the teams didn't want to face the other 2 times in the regural season.

I think Norwich became a regular opponent in the mid 90's. Wasn't their some bad blood with Norwich and Plattsburgh in the pre-Emery years?

What is needed is for someone with a background in Operations Research to determine the optimal pairs of travel partners if Canton joins the SUNYAC. I know that there is a real attraction to the 11 mile Canton/Potsdam distance providing a convenient pairing - the only thing to worry about is making sure that home games for that pair don't collide with home games for SLU/Clarkson, because I would think hotel space would be limited in the area.
Saints17 can correct me, but it seems that Clarkson and Potsdam mens teams do not coordinate their home schedules. They should, but it seems to me that they don't.

The major hotels are in Canton. Potsdam has a bunch of family motels (~ 8-10 rooms each) and the Clark$on Inn.

It would matter a lot more if there were 4 teams staying in the area - two ECACHL teams and two SUNYAC teams. I know all about the hotel situation in the area - my daughter went to SLU and dealing with finding lodging in the area when there was a big event at any of the 3 major schools (SLU, Clarkson, and Potsdam) was not an easy task. (At the time SUNY Canton was called Canton ATC and was pretty much small potatoes.

Yes. I'm pretty sure they stopped playing each other for a good 10+ years. Then around the time the PrimeLink came into existence is when they finally started scheduling each other in the regular season again

Drive time from Plattsburgh to Morrisville is just about 4 1/2 hours (trust me, I went to school there). Canton to Oswego is roughly 2 hours or so. I don't see the SUNYAC breaking up Plattsburgh and Potsdam as travel partners, all other options for Plattsburgh to travel with are just to far away. I could see Oswego being paired with Canton, or staying with Cortland and just pairing Morrisville with Canton should they come in to the SUNYAC.

i hope Plattsburgh does not drop Norwich from the schedule. its the second best game in plattsburghs schedule. the 1st being Plattsburgh/Oswego

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I wish Plattsburgh and Oswego could pair up as travel partners, people would hate to play against either of the teams the day after the other one.

The SUNYAC would never put them together and the rest of the league would never allow it.

Norwich and Middlebury used to be travel partners before the Interlock formed....yikes...

It looks like Norwich and Plattsburgh played each other from the 75-76 season through the 86-#87 season(the year Norwich went to a mini-game against Plattsburgh. We know where PSU went after that).
Then I believe a fight erupted during warm ups of a game, and the rivalry was cancelled for a number of years.

And according to my records, Plattsburgh and Norwich met again for the first time again in the regular season in the inaugural PrimeLink Tournament in 1998.

They met in the 1996-97 quarterfinals with Norwich winning 5-2 after tying 3-3 the first night back when it used to be a two-game quarterfinal round.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I certainly hope this is not the case. I look forward to the Norwich game every year and also think it is very important in terms of SOS for the Cards. But the talk is that Canton is coming in. I guess I would rather drop Skid. or Castleton but I don't make the decisions.

Here is my suggestion for PSU once the two Canton games are added to the schedule.

Drop Williams from the schedule and play either Middlebury and Norwich on an alternating basis. For example, when the Primelink is at Middlebury, we tend to play Norwich in the first game. That season, we would have Middlebury on the regular season schedule. The year the primelink is at Norwich, we tend to play Middlebury in the first game, so that season we could have Norwich on the schedule. The only year we would not face both teams, is the year the Cards host the Primelink.

That is a very logical solution - do you think Mr. Delventhal would get the logic?

looks like paltty has a tough weekend coming up good thing they are at home for both, middlbury looks pretty good and williams is 7-2-1,with a win vs Amherst...

Depends - is that the same logic that says it is best to combine the DI & DIII championships?

Any and I mean ANY hope of a NCAA Pool C hangs in the balance for the Cards (and possibly Williams)this weekend for the Cards. I think Mid's goose is cooked as far as that goes. Last night I watched Bowdoin struggle and caught some of the Adrian games as well. They are nice team's, but their skeds can't be that good with records like those. Let's just say I would play either one tonight for a "one and in".

But as we all know, certain teams who are usually on top get everyone's best game. It makes most games dangerous. Probably why Bowdoin looked so-so against not a very good team. That's why our losses to Amherst and Castleton hurt so much. Even if we win both this weekend that's a 5-4 OOC record which probably won't cut it.
