Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I was watching (a) Salem get handled by Fitchburg then (b) Norwich getting handled by Babson.

I'll be wearing a black jacket over a Clarkson sweatshirt sitting in the Williams section (next to the exploding scoreboard???)

Nope, All new video boards this season! Really pretty nice.

Definitely one of the most exciting finishes I've personally seen. Ranks up there with the 3OT game against Buff State last season. Docking was a wizard on the game-winner and should get credit for creating that chance. Foley may have only seen 7 saves, but his performance was big. And Emery showed a lot of guts with the decision to pull Foley when he did. John Fox could learn a thing or two about going for it from him.

Cardinals complete huge comeback victory {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 1/13/2013}

Do you think this is true??? --Cardinals coach Bob Emery said he “let them have it” during Saturday’s second intermission

And is this poetic license??? -- “The way they came back showed a lot of pride, a lot of guts. And I’m proud of them,” Emery said.

Cardinals coach Bob Emery said he “let them have it” during Saturday’s second intermission, and forward Luke Baleshta said they “kind of deserved it.”

It appeared to work.

Plattsburgh State trailed 4-1 at the start of the third period, but it tallied three goals in the period and Baleshta scored with 20 seconds left in overtime for a 5-4 win over Williams in nonconference men’s hockey at Stafford Ice Arena.

The way they came back showed a lot of pride, a lot of guts. And I’m proud of them,” Emery said. “I hope we can learn from this game, from the mistakes in the first two periods. And I hope we can learn from how we came back as well.

Kevin Emmerling started the comeback by scoring from down low 1:18 into the third. But the 13th-ranked Ephs maintained a two-goal cushion until late in the period, when it disappeared in a span of 1:19. Barry Roytman connected on a shot from the left point with five minutes left, and then Emmerling banged in a rebound from the right side.

Sam Foley, who entered the Plattsburgh net in the third period, had to make a low glove save with 36 seconds left to keep it tied.

The 10th-ranked Cardinals (11-5-1) got a power play early in overtime and put several shots on net but couldn’t score. With about 35 seconds left, Andrew Smith brought the puck in for a good chance but was thwarted by Sean Dougherty’s left pad. Then Dillan Fox found Baleshta in front of the net for the winner.

“I just wanted to get to the net, and I thought (Fox) might’ve put it on net and I was looking for a rebound,” Baleshta said. “And he ended up making a great pass to me backdoor, and then I just tapped it in the open net. So it was a great play by him.”

Jared Docking also assisted, giving him three helpers on the night, and Baleshta finished with two points. Foley earned the win with seven saves.

The Ephs (8-3-1) took a lead in the middle of the first period on a Nick Anderson goal, and they took control in the second. First, the Cardinals tied it when Preston Kaye’s slapper from just inside the blueline found the net for a power-play goal. But then the Ephs scored three unanswered. Anderson deflected a long shot less than a minute after Kaye’s goal, and soon after, Peter Mistretta put in a rebound. Matt Doyle added a power-play marker.

I thought our forwards played great all night,” Emery said. “Williams played great defensively, and we didn’t equal the defensive play for two periods. We had some upperclassmen leadership that let us down the first two periods, and they would’ve been really to blame if we didn’t win the game.”

Plattsburgh held a 42-20 advantage in shots on goal, and Dougherty had 37 saves.

“We’re going to hopefully keep this thing rolling, keep trying to put games on games here, kinda get on a little bit of a roll,” Baleshta said. “We just kinda gotta keep doing what we were doing in the third period there for a full 60 minutes of hockey.”

I'm wondering if the Williams coach had a talk with the couple of players that broke their sticks in the runway and didn't shake hands

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

Any word on how Mark Constantine made out following the check into the open bench door?

Both Constantine and Alex Jensen were taken to the hospital last night following their injuries. I haven't heard anything on either of them as of yet though.

Considering he appeared to try to leave before the handshakes himself, only to be told by the referees to get out on the ice... Possible, certainly, but I wouldn't put any money on it.

got in touch with Constantine and he told me he was doing "pretty good. Better than I was on Saturday." not positive about what he hurt or how long he might/will be out but knowing that he is doing better already is a positive thing.

well as we both went to the same prep school I wish him the best, and he has nice parents who I met at the Campus Center game

The exit door to the visitor's locker room is right between the two benches. Perhaps he was trying to get his two players? The coaches had nice conversations after the game.

After all, it IS a game, isn't it?? Even after you have your heart ripped out of you, there are some things at the college level you gotta do.

Yeah, I doubt Kangas would pull a "no-shake"....but that was a terrible loss to suffer.

Actually, it may be a good one. Teaches a team that when you have a team by the throat, you never let go.

Tonight v Babson will be interesting.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

I don't think it could be a good one when you're playing a contender for Pool C. Good one if you're playing Brockport because a loss to unranked opponent is somehow not as costly.

Docking bringing emotion, leadership on the ice {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press-Republican 1/18/2013}

Jared Docking has put up career numbers already this season, which he said wasn’t what he came in trying to do.

“No, not at all,” the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey forward said. “I’m just trying to do my best to help the team win, and if goals are that way, then so be it.”

The senior forward is second on the team with 16 points and was recently named a captain. He’ll look to extend his point streak to five games when the ninth-ranked Cardinals visit Morrisville tonight for a SUNY Athletic Conference game.

With eight goals so far, Docking has already surpassed last year’s career high of six and is well on his way to exceeding the 20 points he totaled last year. He leads the team in game-winning goals (two) and is tied for second in Division III with three short-handed markers. He has accumulated nine points in the six games the Cardinals (11-5-1, 6-1-1 SUNYAC) have played since the semester break.

But he said what he’s really trying to do when he gets out on the ice is keep pucks out of Plattsburgh’s net.

“My No. 1 goal, me and my linemates, is to not get scored on,” Docking said. “If we don’t get scored on, then we’re doing our job. And obviously try to get pucks in the zone to create some plays. But No. 1 is don’t get scored on. Play hard, play physical and the goals will come.”

He said part of the reason he has been scoring lately is that his linemates, freshmen Andrew Smith and Dillan Fox, have been making great plays. Docking said the trio has started to develop some chemistry.

The 5-foot-6 Toronto, Ontario native is one of just two forwards who have played in all 17 games this season. Coach Bob Emery said Docking is a fiery player.

Jared’s definitely a high-energy guy as a player and plays with a lot of emotion,” Emery said.

Docking had three points last weekend: a short-handed goal against Middlebury and assists on the game-tying and game-winning goals against Williams. And he had a new look in those games — he wore a captain’s C on his jersey.

“Well, for four years Jared’s been a great leader on the ice during hockey games, no doubt about it,” Emery said. “He comes to play every night. He’s a true winner. Pound for pound, he’s probably the toughest kid that’s played here in a long, long time.

“And you know if he can lead by example and everyone else can follow, we’d be a much better team. The hard part is to get the other guys to follow. But he deserves to wear that C.”

Docking said the letter didn’t change anything — he already tried to be a team leader.

I try to show by example,” he said. “Work hard. Just try to do everything I can out there, whether it’s block a shot or score a goal or just really sacrifice for the team. So I try to show younger guys that through my work ethic.

Docking is awesome. Nobody tries harder. He'll be missed after this season. Throws his weight (160lbs) around fearlessly. I wish we had 10 more like him.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2012-13 - Season 24

It appears the Morrisville game is not available to watch online? Can anyone tell me if it will be on the radio? WIRY?
Thanks
