Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

From a Red Sox fan....
1st place only counts on the last day of the season.
NCAA bids are decided after the final horn of the playoffs.

You just have to be in the top 6, then it is a new season.

Exactly just remember Neuman a few years ago a team with a OK conference record but good overall record hit the playoffs and just played at a whole new level then other teams and won a national championship.

I had to edit that post because it sounded like it I made it. My buddy does color commentary for the hockey games on PSTV, and I found a link to that intro video tonight. I thought I'd share it.

Does PSTV stream the games online anywhere? Where are their games distributed?

Unfortunately, PSTV webcasts are few and far between. They'll carry the Primelink online this month, just as they did last time they hosted, but I can't say that I recall any instances outside of those (please correct me if I'm wrong). Distribution is pretty dismal. Since Plattsburgh is the lone market in the area with Charter as its primary cable provider, the station isn't carried anywhere outside the city limits; not even the surrounding townships (Time-Warner country) can watch.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I would think more of Plattsburgh fans than some of the responses of which I have read. Not much credit being given to Morrisville for their gritty performance. Here is a team that is essentially an "Army of One". They have no travel partner and have to play 2 games every weekend in the SUNYACs, while half their opponents sit and wait. Plattsburgh didn't lose this game, Morrisville won it. The Mustangs came close to a weekend sweep. Morrisville should not be able to sneak up on any team any longer.

Formerly as a two year school Morrisville dominated their division, much like the St Norbert, Plattsburgh, and the other perennial NCAA Division III favorites. Next year will tell, as they will have to replace their exceptional senior goalie, Caylin Relkoff, they do have three other goalies, but Caylin is seeing over 80% of the time in goal. Having a strong goalie gives significant confidence to the team allowing them to loosen up on the stick, certainly for 2010-11, Morrisville can not be taken lightly by anyone.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Foley will start Friday against Fredonia....thoughts?

Has this been confirmed? I think this is a great move! Foley looked impressive during his twenty minutes in net against Concordia and between the pipes in the Matty Cup. He has a good glove hand. I was sitting next to Bill when he was in net in the Concordia exhibition and we were pretty impressed with the Freshman from Wisconsin.

*Foley will start Friday night against Buffalo State.

Coach Emery on Behind the Bench - "We've got to find a way to win. You know, we'll make a change. We'll give Foley a chance Friday night. I don't usually make an announcement. He'll know by Monday morning he's going to get the start on Friday night. Maybe it will be a success story."

Yes Emery was going to tell Sam Monday morning that he would be the starter. Emery also stated that this weekend everyone should be able to go. I would like to see what this Neitsch kid can do.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Has Neitsch been hurt? I'm excited to see what Foley can do. I think its time to change it up and I think it might make both Leis and Williams step their game up.

I'm not sure what the deal is with Neitsch or Falitico.... I do know that Bob has mentioned that someone had a 5 game suspension, not sure who or for what. hopefully we get to see both of them and the big defensemen Devereaux this weekend... Devereaux has a cannon from the point!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I thought two of the three goals given up Saturday were pretty weak (although they were both on the far end of the ice and I didn't see them very well). That said, goaltending is not the reason they lost that game. They'd better get the offense to show some consistency or it won't matter who is in goal. They haven't been inspired to play in front of Leis or Williams so it probably is time to give Foley a look.

Nevermind the offense. You're going to run into good goaltending once in awhile and Relkoff has shown the ability to stymie offenses before.

While I'll agree that two of the three goals were weak (both of the one's you're referring to at the far end of the ice), it's a matter of the defense. How do you let a guy skate end to end and get enough of a lane to even take a shot without ever having to set up on the power play (the first goal)? And on what turned out to be the game winner, the D have got to start being stronger on the puck. On the PK with no pressure from the other team on you, you can't be losing the puck behind your own goalie on your teammates' skates. Just sloppy D Saturday. The offense will be there. The D need to get themselves straightened up or its going to be a long, treacherous haul.
