"It's a long awaited home game for us," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery. "But, we can't believe that just because we're home, we're going to win."
...
"I knew our first four games on the road would be tough ones for us," said Emery. "I would have been satisfied to be 3-1, but I'm not satisfied at 2-2.
"We need to play smarter. We have to control the puck in our own end and not make mistakes. And, we have to be better with our team defense.
"But, those first four games all over. We need to learn from the past and get ready to play."
Perhaps the most telling stat for the Cardinals thus far is allowing 18 goals in the team's four games. Two of the goals came on empty-netters.
"We can't give up four goals a game — we don't want to allow more than two goals a game on an average," said Emery.
"The name of the game is keeping the puck out of our net and we have to stop spotting our opponents a 2-0 lead."
Morrisville (2-1) isn't expected to be an easy opponent for the Cardinals.
...
"Morrisville beat Geneseo and we lost to Geneseo," said Emery. "Morrisville has a good goalie (Caylin Relkoff) and a hot goalie can single-handily beat a team."
Relkoff preserved the 3-2 upset of Geneseo by making 47 saves, including 23 in the third period.
"They don't want to get involved in a shootout — and we have to be prepared to win a 1-0 game," said Emery
Tonight's contest begins a five-game homestand for Plattsburgh State.
