Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Sorry if I can't do much more than echo the sentiments of others, but I agree that Leis was fine this evening. The third goal was a little shaky, but the game certainly didn't turn on that. As for the gamewinner, Boots honestly had a good couple of seconds longer than he took to put moves on Leis if he wanted, and he was pretty darn patient as it was. Nothing besides an errant shot or a pure stroke of luck was keeping that puck out of the net. To me, it appeared that the lack of defensive discipline on that particular play stemmed from fatigue: the Cardinals appeared desperate to clear the zone and make the change when they should have stood pat and at least given Boots an extra body to navigate around. By way of a silver lining, overpursuit should be an easier problem to address than an intrinsic lack of speed. Hopefully it's just a matter of getting defensive pairings to stay on the same page.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I totally agree with has been said so far. The only goal that could be called "WEEK" was the 3rd one, other than that I thought he played very good.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Unreal. Leis was god-freakin'-awful tonight. Both Oswego and Plattsburgh were toe to toe for most of the night; but we fell short because our goaltender is freakin' W-O-R-T-H-L-E-S-S. I hope Emery has enough sense to stop trusting Leis to carry the goaltending stick. He was off the wall all night.

We are in REAL trouble here in the 'Burgh for 2010-11. Our team is working on patching some serious holes, but the biggest thing we need to fix is in goaltending. We have no one we can rely upon, and to lose a game tonight due to goaltender nonsense is ridiculous. Hats off to most of the folks on the ice. Both Plattsburgh and Oswego played some great hockey. It was evident poor judgement from Leis would bite us in the hind end; and sure enough it did.

Please, do us all a favor and stop posting if this is what you are going to come up with. did you not see Leis come up with at least 5 very solid stops from guys that were wide open, or on a breakaway??? if you seriously want to blame this loss of Leis you need to pull your head out of your *** and open your eyes.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Everyone seems to forget that TacoRob is only capable of throwing whatever goaltender is in net for Plattsburgh that night under the bus.

That's ALL he does. In his blogs in everything...whether its Williams or Leis all he can do is throw the goalies under the bus.

He's a freaking joke and needs to learn more about the game of hockey.

Late goal beats Cards in Oswego (Excerpt from Plattsburgh Press-Republican 11/7/2010)

The Plattsburgh State men's hockey team let one get away late Saturday night.
...
"We played pretty well, except for the opening part of the first period and the last minute of the game," said Plattsburgh State head coach Bob Emery.

"But, we made some mistakes that killed us. We played disciplined and well enough to win against a team with a group of talented forwards.

"We have to find a way to win games like this. We can't keep falling behind, 2-0, however."
...
"We showed good character and leadership to come back to tie it," said Emery. "And, we had our chances to go up, 3-2."
...
"There was a lot good that came out of the game, especially our work ethic," said Emery. "But, we have to be smarter with the puck."

The Cardinals open their home schedule this coming Saturday against Morrisville at 7 p.m.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

As a totally neutral observer, throwing Leis under the bus as the cause of Plattsburgh's loss is really silly.

Leis is not B J Obrien, or Ryan Klingensmith, or Brian Hince, but he is a good DIII goalie. When you give up a lot of odd man rushes, eventually one of them is going to lead to a goal, even if it looks like the goalie should have made it. He was hung out to dry most of the night. Put somebody else in, and sure maybe he stops goal #3, but may he doesn't make a couple of the big saves that Leis made.

Having seen both Williams and Leis, I don't think there's a lot to choose between the two, but apparently based oo history Emery leans a little bit toward Leis, having broken the rotation to play Leis twice and sit Williams this weekend, and using Leis in the NCAA Semis last year.

As the owner of Leis in the D3FHL...does that make you a totally neutral observer? :p

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I'm going to be honest with you fellas. I thought starting Leis as opposed to Williams was not a good idea. But you know what? Leis made me eat my words. I thought HE and the boys played great last night...with the exception of the thing I'm about to mention. On Oswego's fourth goal with 1:39 left on the clock, there was a huge defensive breakdown. They left Leis hung out to dry and Ian Boots basically wrapped the puck around a flopping Leis for the game winner. However, earlier in the game Leis stoned somebody on a breakaway. Josh also robbed Paul Rodrigues TWICE right on the DOORSTEP! He did save 37 out of 40 shots. So, as much as I hate to say this...I thought Leis was pretty darn good.

If our defense was a little bit stronger, we were 6:39 from a tie or better yet a win. Now we have 16 home games and six away games for the remainder of the season.

As much a neutral observer as Jim Cramer is with some of his stock picks :D

I put the disclaimer in there so my statement could be evaluated in context :D

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I know I'm on the wrong side of this, to you guys, but let me give you a little insight from the Oswego side. Leis played great. He made several key stops when the game was at 2-0, and other spots, just to keep the game within reach. There didn't seem to be anything wrong with him. Overall, I think the game was played pretty tight. Both teams missed some opportunities that maybe they wouldn't late in the season. The second period seemed like both teams were just trying to avoid mistakes. The play was not very aggressive in that frame. A lot of the issues you think the Cardinals had, we felt Oswego had the same issues. But it came down to lack of coverage in a key moment of the game, and the puck landed on the stick of maybe the best skilled player on the ice. Boots knew what he was doing, and no DIII goalie was gonna keep up on that shot. Good game, exciting beginning and end with a so-so middle. Looking forward to the next chapter.

man not sure who taco rob is but, he needs to chill......I believe the lakers had 40 shots and he stopped 36 of'em, and kept the game within reach on the shorthanded robbery of the lakers, without that save I believe the game would have went the way of the SUNYAC Championship blow out.....bottom line as a retired Oz defenseman, Platty has NO breakout.....dumping the puck 30 ft in the air in the hopes that your team will get it is not Platty hockey that I have ever seen or played against.......it gave the puck to the lakers D then they in turn turned it up....ill be back with more

I agree Plattsburgh has the offensive D-men to move the puck but keep playing dump and chase. From what I have seen they are a good cycle once in the Offensive zone it is just getting there to set the cycle up. I saw last night the D would dump the puck with plenty of open ice in front of them and the forwards were not able to get in and get it before the transition had started.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Great game of hockey for all fans. Two good teams battling it out for the prize. Unfortunately,it wasn't ours. Enjoyed the atmosphere and look forward to the rematch. Good work, Cards! Keep it going!

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

Looks like a long season. Were better off when expectations were lower. Looks like sophomore slump for a lot of guys. May be time to ease up and see what develops. I'll admit this is coming from a distance. Don't really know too much about coach or program. Only saw them once on TV couple of years ago. Shutout 2 0 by St. Norbert? Only remember Power Play being ineffective and no changes made. Top guy stuffed repeatedly when trying to shoot. I thought they could have won that game had they made a few adjustments. They definitely had the better team.

Way off! If Plattsburgh can clean up their defensive mistakes, they will be very dangerous. There is a lot of talent on the team. They just skated with the top 1 or 2 (depending on who you ask) team in the nation for 58 minutes and had chances to win. They are now done with half of their road games for the entire season. Nothing to worry about yet.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 2010-11

I thought four games into the season was a little early to be jumping off the bandwagon myself. :)
