Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Agreed - tremendous hockey game. Some outstanding skill shown by the skaters. Neither goalies lit the world on fire, but in the end Haude made 1 more more big play for his team. Crowd was large/loud and tip of the cap to P'Burgh fans for having a good representation as usual.

Hope we will see these 2 teams play again! Heck of a matchup.

...whats up with Jensen??

From the Alex Jensen having best season yet for Cards article from the 1/31/2014 Plattsburgh Press Republican {see above - post #410}, Alex "Jensen said he sprained his MCL at Potsdam last Friday, and by early this week he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to play tonight."

Constantine's goal finishes PSU comeback -- {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press Republican 2/2/2014}

Mark Constantine gave Plattsburgh State its first lead of Saturday’s game 9:18 into the third period, but Brockport quickly tied it up.

So Constantine did it again.

The junior forward tallied with 1:10 left and the Cardinals escaped with a 5-4 SUNY Athletic Conference men’s hockey victory.

After losing a showdown with Geneseo the night before, Plattsburgh did not start well Saturday.

“We played terrible in the first period. Terrible,” Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said. “We came out flat. (Friday) night’s game was so highly emotional, it was kind of a letdown game.

“We came out and played a bad first period. And we were lucky to get out of the first period only down two.”

The Cardinals weren’t the only ones who had a letdown. Geneseo fell to last-place Potsdam 5-2 Saturday. Plattsburgh (16-3-2, 9-1-2 SUNYAC) now has a four-point lead over the second-place Knights, who have six games remaining. The Cardinals have four left.

It’s good to come home in first place,” Emery said. “I didn’t think it would be possible after the loss to Geneseo (Friday) night, but we got some help from our North Country rival.

The fourth-ranked Cardinals trailed for much of the first two periods, and then Michael Cassidy tied the game at 3-3 4:24 into third. Cassidy assisted on Constantine’s first goal, which gave Plattsburgh the lead for just 1:55 — Jesse Facchini knotted it at 4-4.

Constantine’s winner came after a faceoff and was assisted by Luke Baleshta.

I think the guys were really afraid to lose the game (Saturday),” Emery said. “This loss could’ve been really painful — if we took care of business the rest of way — come NCAA selection time.

Constantine finished with three points and now leads the team with nine goals on the season.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Jake Taylor and Chris Luker and led 3-2 after two. Robbie Hall’s goal in the second period was sandwiched by Plattsburgh goals from Nick Jensen and Ryan Farnan.

Anthony Calabrese earned two assists for the Cardinals.

Spencer Finney started in the Plattsburgh net but was replaced by Mathieu Cadieux early in the second period. Cadieux picked up the win, stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced. Emery said Finney made some great saves, but the rest of the team was playing poorly in front of him and the change was made to try to jump-start them.

Aaron Green turned away 28 shots for Brockport (6-10-3, 3-6-1).

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

I think Finney will be great. Some of the saves he made last night were of the incredible sort. The team played their worst period of the year in front of him and allowed about 8 grade A chances. Obviously he was good enough to play regularly at the D1 level so you know the skills are there. I think he was pulled last night to try and spark the team more than anything. It was a roll of the dice by Bob and it worked out. Goalies can be *****ly about being yanked so a sit-down probably is in order. He IS the guy for the next 2 years.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Finney needs work on handling the puck----especially dump ins. I think Bob will bring in 2 freshmen and it will be an open competition for the starting job. Bob makes no promises to anyone. I think Finney played much better against Genny than his first start. He definitely has some talent and should be the front runner. I'm glad he is wearing red instead of green. Bob pulled him to change momentum and it definitely worked. The team played much better after the change and if I were Finney, I would be a bit ****ed at the boys for not playing a bit harder!

He didn't play against Geneseo FYI....

one thing to keep in mind is that Finney has only been around the team a few weeks. Give it some time. You don't just plug and play goaltenders. Guys are use to having Chewy behind them and his tendencies. I will be shocked if Finney isnt the Game 1 starter next year..

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Somebody explain to me how this whole thing (SUNYAC) tie-breaker thing works. If the Cards have 4 games left and have a record of 9-1-2 right now and Genny has 6 remaining games and their record is 9-2, how does this shake out. Let's say both teams win out . What is the order of the criteria deciding the winner in reg? I am confused and forgot how it is determined. Enlighten, please. Thanks.

1.The best record of tied teams against each other based on Conference play (tournament play will not be considered).
2. Number of total Conference wins over ties if points are equal.
3. Goal differential against each other in Conference play.
4. Goal differential against all other Conference teams.
5. Coin flip by Commissioner.

The way I have it figured if they both win out the league Championship would go to Plattsburgh by a one goal difference head to head.

Plattsburgh: 9-1-2 (4 games)
Geneseo St: 8-2-0 (6 games)

both win out

Plattsburgh: 13-1-2 28 pts
Geneseo St: 14-2-0 28 pts

1. Head to Head 1-1
2. Conf wins Geneseo 14, Plattsburgh 13
Geneseo wins....

I still think #2 and #3 should be switched...

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

I don't think there is much of a chance that both Plattsburgh and Geneseo sweep the 10 games they have remaining between them. All this discussion on tiebreakers is not going to matter. SUNYAC is a tricky conference (as we found out Saturday) with a few surprises here and there. I do believe that the Lakers are going to have something to say in who wins the conference. Buffalo could too.

I agree too. That stinks.

Agree. There is a lot of important hockey to play for everyone.

I think wins would be a tie as well because each tie counts as a half win when figuring win percentage.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

I think it should be head to head 1 st..... Then team with fewest conference losses 2 nd.

At this point I think Plattsburgh has a better shot of winning out than Genny. They still have to go to Oz and play Buffalo at home and Brockport at home and away!
