Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Meredith......one of the good guys.

Hats off to Coach Meredith and the whole Fredonia administration, students, olayers and fans for their ceremony for Ducky ladt night. While I am not a fan of farewell tours, Ducky is well deserving of one. Hopefully more of D3 see's this as well. Back before Oswego had online WTOP and NSN, before several teams even had home radio broadcasts on local AM stations Ducky brought us the world of D3 hockey live. It not only allowed Plattsburgh fans a chance to listen, but when other teams traveled to Plattsburgh they could hear their favorite team as well.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Observations from the night, watching via video feed:

1. The Cards kept skating right up until the last second, which is good.
2. This team lacks discipline at times. Emery will beat that out of them soon.
3. 100% PK is great, but 0-for-6/7 on the PP is unacceptable in any game.
4. Carr is good...
5. The refs were bad all game, and clearly robbed us at the end, but points 2-4 were the real reason the Cards lost tonight.

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Agree on all points. However, I do think the Power Play looks pretty good without scoring if that makes sense. Good puck movement and good looks. I think Nick Jensen will help that a lot and we were missing our PP quarterback Roytman tonight. The PK is outstanding and I get the feeling we are just as likely to score as be scored upon when we're down a man.

Ducky's done, stick a fork in him....J/K. He's been a mainstay for the Birds forever and should be allowed to bask in the glory of a fairwell tour.

Wasn't really that "let up" period. Discipline is lacking as times, but some of those calls were just plain iffy. I haven't done the math, but it seemed every power play seemed to be 30-40 seconds. Which leads us to #5, and a PP goal. When you can read the reffs mouth saying "I saw it in before I noticed the net off" then why the @*$! do you wave it off. Chewy was not a happy camper post game.

Was a real cheap shot on Mason following the "charge" on Carr. Sorry but if you want to challenge and come out of the crease then you get what you deserve of which one our player was cross checked into him.

Missing Nick is huge amd Barry didn't help either but rules are rules. Add in an early exit by Mason and the Cards played well shorthanded. Sad to say Buff State is still Buff State. Im not sure how your "captain" can get 4 penalties and spend more time jawing then playing, but then you remember who his coach is.....and isn't. ...

PSU men's hockey settles for a tie {Article courtesy of the Plattsburgh Press Republican 11/17/2013}

BUFFALO — Plattsburgh State fired 44 shots on goal Saturday, but after just one of those got through, the Cardinals settled for a 1-1 tie with Buffalo State in a SUNY Athletic Conference men’s hockey game.

Kevin Carr made 43 saves and the Bengals netted the tying goal early in the third period.

Outside of our power play, I think it was our best 60 minutes yet,” Plattsburgh coach Bob Emery said. “Kevin Carr always plays well against us, and (Saturday) was no exception. We had a lot of chances in the first and second periods to get that second goal, and we couldn’t get it.”

Dillan Fox put Plattsburgh (4-0-1, 4-0-1 SUNYAC) in front at 5:07 of the first period with assists from Alex Jensen and Mark Constantine.

The score stayed there until 3:37 into the third, when Kyle Whipple tied it up.

We had one of our players not put the puck in deep, and they transitioned really fast into a 2-on-1 and got a goal,” Emery said. “That’s a bad mistake in a 1-0 game that we can’t have.”

The Bengals had a lengthy 5-on-3 opportunity a few minutes after their goal, but the Cardinals managed to keep them from notching another one.

Buffalo State (3-2-1, 3-2-1) began the five-minute overtime period with a power play after Plattsburgh was called for a penalty at the end of regulation. But the Bengals were soon whistled for a penalty of their own, negating the man advantage.

The Cardinals held a 6-1 edge in shots in the overtime, and one of their shots — by Connor Gorman — went in the net in the final seconds. But the goal was waved off.

Mathieu Cadieux made 24 saves for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh, typically one of the least-penalized teams in Division III, committed nine infractions Saturday.

Guys will be held accountable for stupid penalties,” Emery said. “We want to keep penalties to eight minutes or less in a game.”

Plattsburgh’s penalty kill was 7-for-7, but the Cardinals went 0-for-8 on the power play, and Emery said they didn’t play with poise in those situations.

Forward Michael Radisa spent part of the game on the blueline because the Cardinals were short a defenseman. Barry Roytman, who took a misconduct penalty on Friday, was scratched, and Nick Jensen and Derek Patterson are both hurt.

The Cardinals completed their first road trip of the season with three points and maintained their lead in the SUNYAC standings.

I’m somewhat disheartened not to get two points in the Buffalo State game because of the way we played. I thought we played really well,” Emery said. “We gotta somehow find a way to win that game. We gotta find a way to score more than one goal.”

Re: Plattsburgh State Hockey 13-14 Season 25

Just back from western N.Y. and have to say that the Cards played with a lot of heart and showed real hustle from the drop of the puck until the end of the overtime. It didn't have the flow I would have liked to see, more 5 on five, but that's how it goes. Carr was outstanding again and made all the diff. in the world. Fox's shot off the cross bar and a couple of other shots earlier that come to mind, might have made for a different outcome. However, I will say, Buffalo was in it and played tough. Maybe a little too tough at times for my skin. I was proud of the guys, especially playing with injuries and limited defense(Radisa, a forward playing D) for giving it their all. This team has talent, heart and from sitting behind the bench last night, good chemistry. Good luck next weekend boys!

I'm sure he was mad...3 goals against for the weekend, and his GAA is almost to 1 per game.

He definitely has started the year hot!
