Penn State Womens Hockey

I was told that the reason for the limited number of Hotels was that it is Vermonts homecoming weekend.

I will try Priceline but so far all we have been able to get is a hotel about twenty miles from the college.

Yeah, homecomings have a way of mousing up simple things like booking a hotel room or a rental car.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Was anyone at the "first" practice Saturday? It was tempting to go up there and watch, but we didn't.

If anyone has any first hand knowledge, please share.

Anyone going to Vermont?? We can't find a hotel that isn't closer than 20 miles from the rink.

Try Montpelier too. It's a little further away, but a very easy drive, and you can visit Stowe on the way to or from Burlington. There is a lot to see / explore in the area - it's very beautiful up there (or should I say over there kind of!)

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

I am highjacking for a bit but want to share my opinion on Priceline. Booked a stay in Columbus and used Priceline. Went with a 3 star choice at the University at $60 and got refused. Added Downtown and got hit on a 4 star (Westin) at the same $60.00. Priceline is the only way to go if you have time and you know you won't cancel.

Sorry for the interuption and now back to yoour regular programming.

I'm on the road pretty much every weekend once the season starts. Getting good deals is essential for affordability. Got Priceline bidding down to an art at our D's home school town. The prices I get allow us to stay an extra night, rather than driving home after late games. Avoid the down town areas, as you often get dinged for parking.

I agree, and always recommend Priceline. Many I've talked to that haven't used it say they's be hesitant to bid low, but who are you insulting? No one. They will either take the bid or not.

If you're willing to drive an extra few miles (5-10) from the event, you can save much more than the cost of the gas. I got a room in Williston, VT (5 minute drive from Burlington) for six nights during Worlds last Spring for $40.00/ night. I just got 2 nights in Madison, WI right in town for the weekend UNH is out for $45.00/night, and the Michigan State football team is in town too!

I can say that I have not come to complete terms with the Star Ratings on the Hotels just yet. 3 1/2 star is the lowest I have gone and consistently get either Holiday Inn Express or Ramada. What does a 3 star typically get you?

A clean room, breakfast, and a few amenities.

Usually start with 3 star for my bidding and go down to 2.5 if I have to. Always stay at a 2.5 Best Western near my kids school. 5 miles away from school, away from downtown, but close to all the shopping you want. Most of the time get it for 50, rarely more than 60.

I work in the tourist industry up here ... Be aware you are coming to VT on a weekend right in the peak of Foliage season ... most years on this particular weekend you can't find a room anywhere in the state. Hope you can make it but finding a place is going to be tough.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Looks like I will be heading across the lake from New York to catch Saturday's game! I will be wearing my Penn State hockey jersey! Can't wait to see the blue and white playing Div I hockey!

For the heck of it even tried Plattsburgh. No Rooms there. Remember that there might be many visitors from North of the Border. Maple Leaf color season in full swing and this coming weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving. With the strong Canadian dollar, expect an invasion from the north this weekend. :)

Well, there are always campgrounds. Rent an RV.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Vermont is offering a video feed for this weekend's games against Penn State. Should be exciting for PSU fans as they're welcomed to NCAA Division I hockey. I don't know what the feed costs and have no idea of the quality, so don't blame me if it's bad. Credit me if it's good, though. :D

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Penn State Women's Hockey just posted on Twitter that all fans are invited to the women's media day tomorrow at 2:30 at the Greenburg Ice Pavilion on campus.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Or drive a little north and stay on the Canadian side. All visitors welcome. Bienvenu a Quebec.

Just checked. Some places available at Lake George. I know it is a bit further (about 2 hours), but you can be promised a scenic drive as a return favor. Heading north, it is a little over an hour to Richelieu and 1.5 hours to Montreal.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Video feed produced for Vermont by the Northeast Sports Network (NSN) is very good ... PBP this weekend by Rob Ryan ... he'll give you an excellent call of the game.

Just checked Kayak myself....there appear to be rooms in South Burlington, as well as Colchester and Shelburne. Before you get to Lake George, either Vergennes (1/2 hour) or Middlebury (45 mins.) might be an option.....straight down Rt. 7 from UVM.

No bargains though.... leaf peepin season means even the Motel 6 can double their usual fee.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Oh, add this to the "Snack Bar ain't Open" list....

Bove's Italian Restaurant.....Burlington, VT.

It's not fancy, in fact it looks like they haven't done a thing to the place since the late 1950's, but........... their Marinara got the thumbs up vote of approval by Bobby Flay, and the video of this occurrence is proudly looped 24/7 within the dining hall.

Casual, reasonably priced, simple, modest yet tasty Italian.

Just a reminder that at 2:30 today the women's hockey team will have their media day at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion on campus, and everyone is invited.
