Penn State Womens Hockey

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Does anybody have any insight as to what we should expect from this team in it's first year? Would like to hear some thoughts concerning the team and maybe some expectations.

Not much shaken about this team.

Any word on the sweaters?

Thoughts on goalies..

Friday is the day..

Thoughts on players..

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Day for ?

Presumably when Penn State players (read D) report!! Good luck pennpapa!! My D reports on Saturday and is really pumped, with a bit of scared to death thrown in.

We are empty nesters, finally!! What am I saying? It was just yesterday that I laced my D's skates up for the first time. Man, time flies.

According to Twitter, two more of last season's Lady Icers have been added to this season's D-1 roster: Sophomore Defenseman Cara Mendelson and Sophomore Forward Katie Murphy.

(EDIT: the official roster now reflects these additions).

Also, if you're in the State College area (or will be on Tuesday the 11th), Penn State is unveiling the new hockey jerseys for this season at the All Sports Museum at Beaver Stadium at 1:15 PM, and everyone is welcome. Junior forward and captain Taylor Gross, and senior defenseman Lindsey Reihl, are the two players who will be wearing the jerseys for the official unveiling. I'm assuming the rest of the team will be there, too (just a guess), so come for the photo op.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

I wish I had known this earlier. If you have any other insights to future happenings please let us know. I am dying to see the uni's and can't wait untill the season starts. I would think that by now more people would be tuned to this blog to keep the news (any news) going. Has anyone been to a skate to see what the talent pool looks like. October is fast approaching. Hope to see everyone at the games.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

If you have a Twitter account, you can follow the women's team at @PennStateWHKY.

Their official Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/PennStateWomensHockey.

I'm pretty sure the SID runs both accounts, and he's pretty good at keeping news current on both of them. I do agree about wishing they had been a little more vocal with things like tomorrow's uniform unveiling - it would be great to see a good crowd show up for that. If I get any decent pictures I'll post a couple here tomorrow afternoon.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

Was anyone at the "first" practice Saturday? It was tempting to go up there and watch, but we didn't.

If anyone has any first hand knowledge, please share.

Anyone going to Vermont?? We can't find a hotel that isn't closer than 20 miles from the rink.

Are PSU practices open to the public?

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

We were told that we were welcome to any practice except the first one last Saturday.

I haven't seen any official statement saying it's okay to come watch the practices, but I know for a fact that Coach Brandwene doesn't mind. I asked about taking pictures at a practice and he has no problem at all with doing that, as long as it's cleared through the SID's office beforehand. If you're not taking pictures, you can probably just show up and watch without having to deal with the SID.

They're doing a good job so far of recording things as the season gets closer. The GoPSUsports official page for the women's team (linked below) has a bunch of player introduction videos, and they keep updating with new videos every day. Sure, they're cheesy, but it's nice to see the players without pads and helmets on and hear them talk a little about being here at Penn State. They also have a bunch of player photos with them wearing the new uniforms.

Is it homecoming weekend or something? Use Priceline and you should be able to get a room at the Fairfield Marriot in Williston (about five miles from campus) for under $50.

Fairfield is a great place to stay and easy commute to many places. However, I've stayed at that Hotel for as low as $60, and as high as $149. Just depends on what is going on. I suspect the fall foliage season might trigger high season prices. Like Hux use Priceline.

I am highjacking for a bit but want to share my opinion on Priceline. Booked a stay in Columbus and used Priceline. Went with a 3 star choice at the University at $60 and got refused. Added Downtown and got hit on a 4 star (Westin) at the same $60.00. Priceline is the only way to go if you have time and you know you won't cancel.

Sorry for the interuption and now back to yoour regular programming.

Re: Penn State Womens Hockey

I was told that the reason for the limited number of Hotels was that it is Vermonts homecoming weekend.

I will try Priceline but so far all we have been able to get is a hotel about twenty miles from the college.
