Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Penn State was a great opponent for ACHA Arizona State, but they will not be the best team ASU plays this year. I'd say that the University of British Columbia will be a tough one for Arizona State. They make the trip to Vancouver later this semester.
That won't be pretty.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Penn State plays 8 games this year against non-AH NCAA teams. I think they will know by the end of this season where they need to be.

Penn State suffered the same thing this weekend that they used to inflict as an ACHA team. It is hard to "flip the switch" when you don't have the proper respect for your oponent.

Meh. The NCAA D3 schools mentioned above generally have little trouble with CIS teams. A D1 school that will be competing in the Big 10 next season should certainly provide more of a challenge than one of them...

CIS teams have beaten many a D1 programs over the years. Not the Sioux of course though.:)

This year British of Columbia tied Denver, lost to Colorado College, and beat Air force.

Penn State has lost another recruit to the CHL. Connor Garland '96 has left the Muskegon Lumberjacks and is expected to join the Moncton Wildcats

What are the chances of just showing up for the January 15th game against Neuman and getting a single ticket?

It's a Tuesday night game so chances are pretty good, just make sure you get there about 30 mins early and you can sit in the student section once you get in regardless of your
ticket.

Huge win tonight over Ohio State. It feels great knowing that we already have a win over a future conference mate. Yes, I know it's just Ohio State, but PSU was did have a varsity team a year ago and OSU has a full allotment of scholarships (unlike our previous Div 1 wins against Atlantic Hockey teams) and is established. A real nice solid effort by the squad.

Now we know both clubs will finish either five or six instead of psu finishing last. ;)

You guys scare me now. Going into the season I was looking at two easy wins, maybe even seeing double digits put on the scoreboard. You put up a lot of shots and our offense is anemic. But I think the worst part is the inconsistency. The series against Air Force, Arizona State and now this weekend all show State could very well beat you 8-0 Friday night, but you guys could come back and win 4-3 the next night.

I think next year you guys will get worn down and these split weekends won't happen so often, but for this season it's working.

If you go over to the OSU thread, their fans are ready to jump off a bridge (if they haven't already) Same for the RIT faithful after our guys won in Rochester.

Maybe it's time that folks admit that this team isn't as weak as everyone predicted they would be. Yeah, they didn't show up on Saturday against a good Arizona State team, and didn't play a strong game against RMU (despite the generous 48 shots). But as last night showed, they can play with the big boys (and don't forget the 2-0 empty-net goal loss at Union).

With a strong recruiting class coming in next fall, the team will be that much better.

Can't wait to be at Munn next month. It's gonna be a fun weekend! :)

IMO, it will be easier for psu to find a way to .500 hockey in the big. Where things get Harry for the lions being able to place in the top two or three in the conference. It might take them 10 years to do so.

I rather suspected that this team would not completely suck. You brought a large contingent from your club team to the table and that experience of having played together counts for something. Throw in some other guys that can play a little, some hard work, and that adds up to a win here or a win there.

That said, I don't think you're being well served by the schedule you're playing, whatever the reason for it, discussed much, previously. If I were a betting man I'd put a lot on money on PSU having a worse record next season than whatever it is you end up with for a record this season. I haven't heard or read a lot about BIG Scheduling next season as yet but if it's a home and away series against every team in the conference...............well, lets just say that conference wins are going to be at a very big premium for PSU. 6 conference wins in 20 games, if that is how many each team plays, would be a pretty big (pardon the pun) accomplishment for PSU, I think.

Looks like state will be battling ohio now for 5th place in the B1G next year now that PSU isn't the doormat we all assumed they would be. :D

I've always said that the guys from the Icers can play. Guy Gadowsky has enough confidence in their skills to start Mike McDonagh (Jr.), Mike Longo (Sr.) and Tommy Olczyk (Soph.) on Saturday. They have consistently been one of his top lines in the past several games going back to the weekend at Union.

Not going to get into the schedule (as you say, it's been beaten like a mule), but yeah, next year is going to be a tougher road, no doubt about it.
