Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

I beg your pardon?

Steve, it will be easier for PSU to get to .500 than .600. In fact I would be surprised if PSU wins more than 5 Big Ten wins next year or the year after. If I am wrong I will eat crow but I doubt it.

HAHAHAHA Congrats PSU! You beat both schools we love to hate in your first year as a varsity program.

You definitely earned my respect. I had the idea that next year was going to be an easy 4 wins.

Congrats. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't embarrassing, but your resume certainly shows you have potential. Look forward to next year in the B1G.

First of all, I wanted to put a :D in my 'beg your pardon' reply, but my phone wouldn't let me. :)

Our team might surprise next year, or might not. Just in case we do, you might want to keep this handy. ;)

CROW CASSEROLE

1/2 dozen crow breasts
1 qt. sauerkraut
1/2 dozen strips bacon
1/3 c. chopped onion

In skillet brown the crow breasts, then place them on a 1 1/2" layer of sauerkraut in bottom of a casserole. Cover each piece of meat with a strip of bacon and sprinkle the onion over them. Cover the breast with another layer of sauerkraut and pour sauerkraut juice over it. Bake two hours in oven heated to 350 degrees.

Either way, it was a pretty sweet ride back to Hockey Valley, not that the team needed a plane! Heck of an upgrade after ten years of riding the bus with the Icers. :D

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

I just saw D1 freshmen and experienced club players show how hockey is played Saturday night.
Penn State's in fine shape. We were brutal.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Well PSU, I was rather impressed this past weekend. They are quicker than I had predicted and played very aggressive. They seemed like a team that had nothing to lose and just went for it. Definitely earned that Saturday win.

See you guys next year. I expect both teams will be better.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Penn State comes into the final weekend of this inaugural season :( at 18-15 overall and 12-13 against NCAA D-1 and D-3 teams. I said at the start of the season that I thought the Nittany Lions would wind up around .500. They've beaten teams that I didn't expect and also lost to teams they should have beaten.

They've played well on the big stage, beating Ohio State, Vermont and Michigan State, but it's going to be a big challenge against the Badgers and their home crowd at the Kohl.

Guy Gadowsky has said all along that this season has been about building the foundation for the future. That foundation is pretty solid right now.

Couldn't ask for a better way to wind up the season, with a pair of "big stage" games, even if it doesn't go their way.

The Badgers can now show you how to play really boring hockey.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

:D

Huge win to end the season. PSU actually ends up with a winning record against Big Ten teams (3-2) despite not having any of those games at home.

Overall, just a pretty impressive season. Sure, the losses to lower division teams sucked, but a bunch of signature wins for a team playing in their first varsity season. PSU will be a bottom feeder in the Big Ten next season, but we'll be competitive and have a few wins.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Congrats Penn St. on a big win. You're program is on the right track! You guys played with a ton of heart and passion tonight. And wanted it more. Like the helmets too.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Many congrats to Penn State on their successful first season. I remember UNO's first season like it was yesterday ('97-'98) and its a pretty good memory. I know you guys didn't exactly have the schedule you wanted in terms of quality opponents but you played better than I would have thought against the better teams on your schedule. Interesting, too, that you guys didn't manage a single tie. :)

A word of advice to incipient D-1 men's programs in the future.

Schedule Air Force.

The last two new D-1 programs (UNO and RIT) before Penn State (that are still around) both got their first ever D-1 wins against them and Penn State got the Falcons once, too, in just their 9th game.

Thanks for pi**ing off Wisconsin right before we have to play them.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Wow...beating Wisconsin. The Badgers are having a really down year, but still...

College hockey needs more 'up-and-coming' stories like this.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Good win for Penn State. I can see this program getting good quickly. Big 10 conference along with a brand new arena that will be top of the line with an alumni base feeding that program money will lead to some success very soon.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Congratulations Penn State on a great win to end your season. After playing the night before like you didn't belong, you certainly showed us last night that you do.

Look forward to seeing you next year in the B16!

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

So far they've beaten half of the B1G......in year one.

Congrats on the win over your first ranked opponent. Don't expect to beat my team though :P

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Not a fan of the B1G, since it changes things in a negative way for many of the rest of us fans, but congratulations on a good first year. We all love this game, and having more of it is a good thing.

Will look forward to the time when PSU and UND play.
