Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

Looks like there will be a sizeable Penn State contingent at U-Conn this weekend.

From Hockey Ops Director Bill Downey:

For any Penn Staters living near UConn come support the Penn State Hockey on Friday 1/4 and Saturday 1/5 at the UConn Ice Forum as we take on the Huskies. There will be a postgame reception for all Penn Staters at the Nathan Hale Inn hosted by the CT Valley Chapter of the Alumni Association. For more info on the reception please contact Terry Schnure at taschnure@aol.com.

Penn State players pose with John Dufford at a post-game reception after Friday's 4-3 loss to U-Conn.

Mr. Dufford, who turns 92 next month, played for the Nittany Lions from 1939-41 before joining the Marines where he served as a fighter pilot in WWII and Korea.

That's Mr. Dufford in the flannel shirt.

Goalie PJ Musico was mic'd up for the Ohio State game at the The Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

I saw you guys play at UConn on last Friday and I thought you played pretty well. faster than I had expected. And over all better. If you had a big center to plant in front of the goal things or a couple of guys who were better at taking hits it might have turned out differently. I thought some of the youth showed at times especially when it came to getting hit. I also thought your goal tending was a little suspect. But the kid was a freshman, and goalies are pretty tough to land. I would hope that UConn-Penn State could be a regular feature of the season going forward. Two upwardly mobile programs, we're heading to Hockey East in 2014-15.

Looks like maybe you guys are about to get at least some idea of where you are relative to Michigan this weekend. They got beat and got outshot, besides, by the U18 team last Friday night--at home, no less.

Yeah, these kids on paper scare the bejeebus out of me.
Of course, I'm not playing. ;)

Look forward to seeing PSU this weekend. Do you guys know if you have any number of fans coming to Munn?

I would imagine there will be some, but not as many as last night in Philly. ;)

Im looking forward to my first visit to Munn and seeing the Spartans for the first time since they beat ND in Grand Rapids.

Re: Penn State 2012-2013: Welcome to D1

I would like to tell you that PSU will be welcomed with a full house, but I can't guarantee that. Attendance has made zero sense this year. Team is worse than last year, yet attendance is lightyears better. We've had three sellouts this year, with only one being UM. Last year we had two, and both were UM. Two weeks ago ND came into Munn and it was a full house both nights. Last week Ferris came in and we still had over 6,000 but not a sell out as there were large empty chunks behind the net. I have a feeling a future B1G foe will garner some attention though.

Having fun in the booth with Associate AD Joe Battista and my partner Tim King during Saturday's Philly College Hockey Faceoff.

I know it is popular to take the Penn State is garbage stance but they are a decent team. They lack scoring and are proably in need of 2 Dmen. Overall they play very hard and that effort and decent goaltending can carry you pretty far. I would not be surprised if they split with MSU

They definitely have a shot at a split, especially on Friday, or if they score first.

As Coach Gadowsky says in our pregame interview, "Big stage, Big Ten Network." Tonight's game is a preview of things to come starting next season.

But hey, if you're going to watch, turn down the sound and listen to us! ;)
