Patty Kaz 2013

Re: Patty Kaz 2013

Agreed. Team Noora over here as well.....

If not Noora, Sara Bauer.
I am also a huge admirer of Sara Bauer. I will never be able to wash from my memory the images of the puck seeming to follow her around as various assorted Gophers always skated to the wrong spot, the wrong angle while Bauer was ALWAYS in the right spot, on the right angle.

I see a parallel with current Badger Brianna Decker, Kaz winner as a junior, not going to repeat as a senior.

I am wondering if you have an all time all-Badger team that you would be willing to name.

Vetter for sure.

Mikkelson and Slusar.

Knight.

Gets tricky then, don't you think?

You've got two Kaz winners, the better Ammerman, Duggan, Lawler, Zaugg, some pretty tough choices.

Bauer is one of mine.

Since just about everyone is going Kessel with a few holdouts for Raty, who are the other finalists?

Out of HE I think Coyne and Carpenter are definite options. Don't follow the other leagues enough to hazard names so what do other people think?

Re: Patty Kaz 2013

I'd go MacLeod and Slusar.
MacLeod was never WCHA defensive POTY. Mikkelson was.

Having said that, MacLeod, great player, and I agree it is pretty hard to leave her out of this group. That's the problem with an all time all-Badger (same problem of course with an all time all-Gopher).

Well, Decker for sure.

Re: Patty Kaz 2013

One of the stats that really stood out for me this weekend was the huge differential in saves Noora Raty and Alex Rigsby. Raty has almost 200 fewer saves - and its not because she's letting in the goals. The competition isn't getting close enough to her to even get a shot off.

Apropos of nothing, in looking up those stats, Danielle Butters of Minnesota State has 100 more saves than Rigsby and has a .914 Save Percentage. That poor girl is getting shelled and doing pretty well.

That being said, I don't see how there's any way this isn't Kessel's Patty to lose. The only way it doesn't happen is if someone catches her kicking baby seals.

Re: Patty Kaz 2013

Bump. I can't believe there hasn't been more response to this. Where is Dave1381?
Hello! I appreciate that you look for my posts, but going forward I won't be devoting as much time to Kaz discussion as in the past. It's been fun though.

Now that we're at the break, let the speculation begin. Is it between Amanda Kessel and Noora Räty?

I think you've got that right. My expectation is that Kessel is the heavy favorite, because the gap between her and the rest in scoring is so large that I can't imagine her not winning. While Raty may be having the best college goalie season of all time, it hurts her chances that she's not even leading the nation in GAA/Save pct. or that it's even close (yet I don't doubt she is having a far better season than Bellamy once you consider strength of schedule and playing time, etc). As for whether Kessel, Raty, or Bozek is truly most deserving, that's a much more difficult question that I don't think I can get at without being closer to this Minnesota team.

The race for who is third in the Final 3 looks to be pretty much wide open at this point, and I expect it'll be decided by who has the best conference postseason tournament among those contenders, unless one of them really stands out in securing a regular season title down the stretch -- also the Beanpot could be significant as well, as each of the Beanpot teams has a potential candidate.

Ohhhhhhhh tough question!

Sara, of course. Zaugg. Little Lawler. Bobbie-Jo would be an easy addition for me. Sis Paulsen, Kerry Weiland or Alev Kelter. And Vetter.

I will say that I am a firm believer that having the best players doesn't nesseccary make for the best team.

On another note, has anyone hailing from outside North America ever won PK?

Agosta was robbed. Disappointed Bendus isn't in med school. We need some international flair. That is all. Moving on.
