Congrats Canada, you're maybe the 3rd best team left in the tourney.

I hope they can go back and review the tape and toss Boyle for the rest of tourney.

It seems that in the NHL is an automatic match penalty on top of the tripping minor, and then subject to supplementary discipline. IIHF has no specific provisions for slew-footing.

Between the slew foot and Neidermeyer slamming (Kessel?) into the glass way after a whistle in the USA game the Canadians are full of class.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Well... I think we all agree THAT wasn't what it was billed to be.

Was the penalty on Semin for the hit? I could've sworn I saw the referee with his arm up before Semin made contact.

well before. and when boyle started that shift he came down in front of the russian net and slashed 79

that's another one where they should have called a penalty... but we're playing by NHL rules and not IIHF international standards.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Isn't slewfoot an automatic suspension in the NHL? I don't see how IIHF could be more lenient than the NHL is. Also, the Semin hit didn't seem illegal to me, it was shoulder to shoulder on a puck carrier. Perhaps boarding b/c of Boyle hitting the boards violently, but I wouldn't have called it a penalty.

No it isnt...Oshie did it against the Wild earlier this year and only got a minor for it.

Whats new?

Just go back to world juniors and the dirty hit laid on the kid from sweden, in an exhibition game. Canada sucks, I hope they get pounded by someone.

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Agreed, his arm was up before the hit.

if it was on semin, they could have had him for an elbow on sid in front of the bench before that.... but i don't really see a penalty

Re: Part IV of the XXIst Winter Olympiad Or All Your Hockey Are Belong to US

Boyle got him with a high stick too.

If we're nitpicking, Crosby deserved a penalty for not going to get his helmet.

:D

The box score says Semin 2 minutes for high sticking and Boyle 2 minutes for interference. Makes me wonder if the officials even saw the slew foot.
