Edit: Concussion and some facial abrasions...could have been a lot worse

Great effort by the Latvians to get back into this game, but I think it's over with them going shorthanded down 4-2 with 2:47 left.

What on earth possessed someone to tell this couple that purple dress matches red and black for the guy? Just askin'. It clashes so badly it is distracting.

Ice dancing is incredibly boring...

Impressive edge work, but overall just boring.

I interviewed Jean Claude Killy when I was a college broadcasting student and aspiring ski racer.

I asked him what it was like to fall at 60 mph. He said you bounce a lot, but it wasn't really all that painful.

I later found out that HE LIED! :D :rolleyes:

The compulsory dance isn't all that interesting. Everybody is doing the same steps, and they're very technical but not particularly eye-catching. Where things get interesting is in the other dances, where they start to do really fun lifts and suchlike. That part of ice dancing is my favorite of all of the figure skating events.

As far as skiing goes... there's a continuum of turns vs. speed.

Slalom - Giant Slalom - Super G - Downhill

Slalom is all turns and very little speed. Downhill still has a lot of turns, but they're at very high speed. The other two events are in between, trading speed off for more/sharper turns.

I hate all women's sports that involve skirts. If they were mandatory there is no way I would watch curling.

Field hockey uniforms are the most sexist things on the face of the planet.

Easy there Susan B. Anthony, the Danes are just wearing them as a style choice.

I realize that. And I'm comparatively not a crazy feminist, most of the time. But really, skirts are not exactly useful or practical at all in athletic pursuits. I enjoy dressing up, and I wear them, but not when I'm going to be running around or sliding on the ice!

What I like about the compulsory dance is that you can see the lines on the ice from the couples who have already skated. It doesn't really add anything but you can compare a little bit where the current skaters are in comparison to the ones who have gone before. I just think it's kind of neat, usually there are etches all over the place and these are so concentrated.
