I think he has reacted with real class. He hasn't made excuses and has put it all on himself. I respect him much more than the armchair folks who want to shiz on him.

I hear Joe Thornton got traded by the Bruins.


I think the U.S. has to stick with Smith throwing fourth. I only caught the last three ends, but the U.S. looked really solid. The French skip was curling over 90% and still lost. Smith didn't put a foot wrong while I was watching, he was executing the way Shuster should have been doing. I could see Shuster coming back in to skip in an earlier position, maybe, but he absolutely should not be throwing last rocks again in this tournament.

I think the dynamic is much different without Shuster. When he is out there, there is very little strategy discussion. Today all four guys were involved. Now, Shuster may feel like he doesn't need any help because his strategy is so solid, but his leadership skills are lacking. An effective leader would listen to the input of others, then explain why he wants to do what he wants to do. There doesn't seem to be much discussion when he's out there.

His leadership wasn't an issue. He knew what to do, he was just failing to execute.

The issue before this hasn't been leadership, I don't think, because Shuster's had them in position to win the matches, and typically with very makeable shots. The issue has been execution. Smith executed the heck out of his shots at the end, Colleen Jones was gushing about his final rock (which forced the French skip into a very, very difficult draw to win).


I'm not saying getting the rest of the team involved is a bad thing, per se, but it clearly wasn't what was holding the U.S. back. What was holding the U.S. back was Shuster missing shots that the guy throwing fourth rocks has to make.

Why are Jagr, David Krejci and Milan Michalek the three guys Roenick chooses to single out from the Czech team as indicative of how dangerous they are? I mean, Jagr, sure, but the other two? Not, like, Elias? Havlat? Kubina? Kaberle?
