Super-G on NBC right now.

Now, I've never been on skis, so that is probably part of it, but watching the skiing terrifies me more than just about any other sport. They seem to spend most of the time airborne. And I could just see any one of them taking a header down the mountain at any moment.

Even the best guys seem out of control so far

You know, as terrible a GM as Milbury was, he's a halfway decent analyst.

Re: Part II of the XXIst Winter Olympiad....and NBC still sucks.

What is the difference between the super-G and the downhill?

Stupid College hockey:mad:

Back to being obliviated by the skiing.

You have a lot more turning in the Super G. The downhill is pretty much just what it says; there are a ton of turns in the Super G.

Exactly. Huge banked turns that make you have to use every ounce of strength in your body to keep the g-forces from pile-driving you into the Earth's crust. It is amazing.

I think I'll stick to hitting people on a flat ice surface. I'd break my neck barreling down a mountain.

I think I saw a feature that said Vonn faces 6G's during a Super G run. That would probably kill most people.

What non-racers don't know is that these courses are about as hard as the ice on a hockey rink. Course workers actually ice them down at night.

You are just adding reasons to my statement that I would never ever try it. :D

Meh, I doubt it. Fighter jets get up to 12G's, but obviously not everyone can get through that. G's will make you black out before they kill you, so at least you wont feel it. 50G's serious injury or death is likely. >100G's are experienced in a car crash.

So obviously it isn't just how many G's, but for how long you are subjected to them.

Re: Part II of the XXIst Winter Olympiad....and NBC still sucks.

6 G's would not kill most people. It might make them black out due to lack of bloodflow to the brain, but it wouldn't kill them.

Let's test that theory on you :p

Right. Your unconcious body flying down the mountain at roughly 80mph is much more likely to kill you.
